My 5 yo son has an XW foot so options are limited. But never again with New Balance hook and loop. The velcro stops sticking together after a month or two, and it's a major frustration. We have tried all the tricks---cleaning etc.---and nothing works. Last time, Zappos replaced a pair for free, but the same problem recurred. Fingers crossed he can learn to tie shoelaces!

These shoes were great when we first got them. My son really liked the look and feel of the shoes. However, about 2 months into wearing them daily, the hook-and-loop closures started to pop open while wearing. The hook-and-loop closures are still clean - not dirty or covered in fuzz, as happens with some shoes - these just don't want to stick anymore. It has happened with both shoes, and makes them almost impossible to wear for active play. If it weren't for this issue, these shoes likely would have lasted until my son outgrew them.

I always go up half a size in New Balance. My kids have narrow-medium feet and this style fits great. There's ankle support while still having flexibility and bounce.

My son loves them. He plays hard and is rough on shoes. So far so good!

My son has been wearing NB 520v8 Bungee Lace. He wanted a pair of white shoes, so I bought these NB shoes in same size. They fit smaller/tighter. So I bought another pair, one whole size bigger and wide. They fit better, but he said they were still uncomfortable and just going to keep wearing his other NB shoes.

The shoes are attractive, and my daughter said they were comfortable, but I don't like the bungee straps, and the velcro seems weak, like it wouldn't last long. We're returning them.

I had read the reviews about the hook and loop but I’ve been buying this brand with the hook and loop closure that I didn’t think we would have the same issue. Turns out we did after a few months, my son isn’t even able to walk much. We have never had this issue with any of his other shoes from this brand and I usually kept them for a while because usually they last. Anyways I don’t know if it’s an issue only with this style specifically but I don’t recommend these, you probably be best buying another style until they fix this issue.

After wearing these for about 4 months, the Velcro stopped sticking. Usually we keep shoes until they’re outgrown but in this case they’re just not usable anymore.

The soles melted when placed in the dryer. The kids got them wet and if that happens to you, do not dry these
