I have 10 pairs of Allbirds in my closet, so I was surprised to see how different these were. In fact, at first I wondered if they were really Allbirds at all. All my other pairs have a removable insole, so I can slip my othotics underneath it. These insoles are very thin and are glued in. But I like the color and they are lightweight and nice for the hot weather.

I had contacted Allbirds directly with a question if there was elastic inside the shoe at the tongue. Rep said no. I received these today and they have elastic band at the tongue that makes the fit tight across the top on me. They also don’t have much of a cushion when walking. I am returning.

This shoe was very difficult to get my foot into. I have a 6.5 medium size foot and have a mildly high instep. I bought the size 7 because I always wear moderate weight socks with my shoes. The cut of this shoe could barely accommodate my foot. I had to pull up all the laces and use a shoehorn to force my foot inside. A complication was that the tongue is constructed of a very thin, supple material that is attached to the inside of the sidewalls by wide elastic bands. My guess is that this particular design was to avoid the problem of a tongue that doesn't stay under the laced section. But this meant I had to hold the tongue away from my foot at the same time that I was maneuvering my foot into the shoe with the shoehorn. Once on my foot, the shoes were moderately comfortable. On the plus side, the toe box is roomy, the arch support was adequate, the heel section fit well and I liked the color. However, I did not want to have to struggle to get the shoes on every time, so I returned the shoes to Zappos. I was disappointed because I had hoped to take these shoes on an upcoming trip.
