These shoes fit and feel great, but after less than a month the tread is completely worn smooth in some places. I only do about 10-15 miles in these shoes a week. I expected much better longevity.

I loved these shoes so much and wanted to love them forever, but they wore out within three months. They are so comfortable, but got a hole super quick because the material is not durable. A lot of money for a shoe that doesn't last. I contacted Customer Service, but they sent be an automated email stating their policy. these are made for my feet! They just need to last longer!

I purchased these shoes 4 months ago and loved their comfort, but after minimal use (2 to 3 miles about 4 days per week) they have an interior hole at the heel, causing blisters and discomfort.

I love the blue color. I have several previous versions of this shoe. This one is disappointing. The upper cuts into the top of my foot. Please bring back the thicker tongue and upper of version 3.

I have had three pairs of Escalantes and by far these are the worst. The arch support is gone, the tongue is no longer padded, the toe box is not as wide, the shoestrings can barely be tied. It's back to the drawing board to find a comfortable pair of walking shoes. I'm so disappointed in Altra for changing up their shoes so drastically.

ALTRA definitely uses a chemical in the material of their shoes that has fragrance. It is enough with all the air fresheners we have to breathe in public places to also have them in our clothes. Altra shoes instead of smelling new, smell like air fresheners. That is the reason I had always returned my orders from Altra. Left shoe uncomfortable smaller than right. The Black/Black color is a dark gray not black.

I have worn the Escalante for years. I recently purchased the new version and had to return them to my local running store. The redesign with the lip at the top for the loop and the change in the solid piece of plastic (?) on either side for the lace to go through hits right on my bunion. It took me forever to find a pair of shoes that did not hurt to run in. On to find something I can run in.

My feet were getting achy waiting for the Lone Peak 9s to drop, so I tried these. Despite promising reviews, I discovered my feet are just too high volume for these. I'll keep waiting for the 9s!

These were my first pair of Altras and I love the wide toe box and 0 drop heel but the woven upper has holes after just one month of use. I don't have crazy long nails, but it just isn't durable.

The shoe feels great but looks terrible because it's a navy/gray color when it's advertised as black! Thought I had found the perfect shoe until these arrived. Escalante meets all my criteria (zero drop, natural wide toe box, normal amount of cushion like a "regular" shoe) but I ordered and desired a BLACK shoe. These shoes match none of my clothing and are a huge disappointment. Hoping Altra exchanges them for something that meets my needs but I don't see any other styles in black that don't have an excessive amount of cushion. I really wish this model ACTUALLY came in black. It would be so easy for them to make this a black shoe like the one in the picture but alas If style is important to you, don't order this shoe. It looks nothing like the shoe in the picture on the site.

Very comfortable shoe but it does feel a touch too narrow how it's advertised. There is also already damage to same place on the tongue of both shoes in the right corner. I want to like them!

I've had these for less than 3mos and the sole is super worn and falling apart. Mostly walking, I've put less than ten miles running on them.Can't believe the drop off in quality since my last pair

This is my 3rd escalante purchase and I miss the 2. These already have holes worn on inside of heels due to slippage. Shoelaces are too short, again (2s had great laces). Also, they aren't black.

I've put 25 miles on these shoes. I'm in denial about them hurting my pinky toes- the whole time. Today I re-laced them, trying heel lock at the ankle, hoping that would help. Regrettably, it didn't resolve my issue.

I tried these on hoping to be able to replace my worn out Escalante 3s. While I didn't mind the new fabric and liked the slight increase in footbed stiffness compared with the Escalante 3s, I couldn't purchase the Escalante 4 because the new model has NO arch support.

I originally liked these shoes but when walking in them longer distances my feet hurt. The sole is not responsive like the Escalante 2.5s. Why change the sole to a stiff non-responsive one. I like the new fabric because it is more durable compared to the 2.5s. I want the 2.5s back w/ the new fabric. : (

Bought this running shoe because I've been an Altra Escalante fan since the original Escalante and the Escalante 2. Both of those models were fantastic, they were the best running shoes I've ever owned and I loved them. Super disappointed with the Escalante 4 model unfortunately. Way too firm of an insole, very different design from the original Escalante. The shoe has very little give in the sole, to the point of causing shin splints. Wearing these shoes feels like you are running on straight concrete barefoot. In the original escalante models, it felt like you were running on a cloud, providing cushion as well as support. Escalante 4 is nothing like the original, and has caused me nothing but pain. I still love the wide toe box, but if this is the route Altra is taking the Escalante, I will not be purchasing them anymore.

I love Altras, but these were not it. They feel narrow compared to my other 3 pairs! Almost like I was walking on a narrow platform if you will.

The toe box is not nearly wide enough. Also - something about these causes me great pain in the arch of my foot which I've NEVER experienced with any other shoe - I have high arches if it matters.

Tongue of shoe not properly stitched with gaping hole before wear. This is my 2nd pair of Escalantes (in 6 month) that have fallen apart immediately. Very disappointed. This used to be a great shoe.

Escalante 3 was your best ones and you discontinued them to put out subpar sneakers worth $25 at most. The sole fell apart after 2 runs, please bring back 3 your brand reputation is diminishing
