After putting these shoes through over 1,000 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, I have some major concerns. First, the fit: when your feet swell on long days, they become painfully tight. The toe box just doesn't deliver the comfort Altra is known for. Go a size up if your going to put in miles. Durability was another letdown. By 500 miles, the materials were already falling apartthe soft cushioning on the sole wore down to almost nothing, torn off by gravel or rocks, and the side foam tore up around the toes. If your for longevity, these shoes are horrible. The breathable mesh is great for airflow but lets in tons of dirt, which gets annoying fast. For the price, I expected better longevity, especially when budget is a concern for most hikers. If you're looking for reliable trail shoes, I'd skip these and go with Lone Peaks or another proven option. These just didn't hold up to the demands of thru-hiking. Straight up these shoes are a disappointment.

I've owned over 50 pairs of Altras, including multiple pairs of every version of the Olympus. I've always been thrilled with them right out of the box, until the Olympus 6. The Olympus 6 gave me a giant blister on my heel on the first 5-mile run. The heel cushion in the middle of the back of the shoe rubs in exactly the wrong spot. This shoe is a giant miss. I don't understand why running shoe companies change a good thing.

Ive been a big fan of the Olympus for years and several versions. They lost me on this one. It is a tighter fit, which feels a little better than the 5 on technical terrain. They hold my feet well and don't slip as much as past iterations. But that Achilles pillow is a horrible design. It is a blister machine. I've never had blister issues with the Olympus in the past but this new "pillow" just compresses and all that folded fabric and stitching rubs like crazy. I'm surprised it passed testing without a ton of complaints because I'm hearing it from everyone. It's too bad.

I have a super high arch and wide feet. I've hard the hardest time finding shoes that are comfortable and don't give me shin splints or another type of injury. These are amazing. Great grip, comfortable, arch support. I'm looking for regular running shoes that mimic these so I can wear something similar off the trail. Thank you Altra!

I live in bishop and run sierra trails everyday. Some of the most rugged terrain you can get on. over the past year I've ran 1,000's miles in these! Several high elevation 50k's and even a 100 miler in October. Total upgrade from the Olympus 5 the Vibrum has held together much better, the upper way more durable. After a year of use they look as if they could last another year. The fabric around the ankle has torn now but I still run these just fine!

I have been a long time Lone Peak customer and have always had a great fit and durability. After some foot issues I was looking for more cushion. I was stunned at how many bad reviews this shoe had, so I wanted to look at all my options. I went to an actual shoe store and tried these on as well as the competition. There was really no other choice as these felt amazing. I was still conserned about heal problems, but after actual trail running those were alleviated. These feel like Lone Peaks, with the same size and fit, but with more sole and built like a tank. I paid full retail price at my local Altra dealer and am very happy. Go to a store and try them on if you are concerned.

I have roughly 250 miles on these shoes and they have shown little to no wear. Use has been split 50/50 between trails and pavement and I have nothing but good things to say about these shoes

This has been my go to for high mileage runs. It keeps my feet in good shape for 50K runs and lasts probably about 300-350 miles before they need replacing. Other shoes have caused blisters but these don't. I am on my 4th pair now I like them so much. Happy I found them. Keep it up Altra!

I used 6 pairs of Olympus 6s to hike the AT this year. They provided the cushioning and performance I needed. As well they were very durable over the rocks of Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. Thank you Altra.

I always have a hard time finding running shoes that fit my feet well, and these have just become my holy grail. My feet are a women's 11 wide (mostly due to slight bunions), but I often buy a men's 9.5. These are the first shoe to give me ZERO hotspots or blisters anywhere, even during my 19 hour 100km trail race. The cushioning is great for long days in the trails, without feeling too clunky. The wide toe box is perfect, and prevented blisters between rubbing or overlapping toes. The cushioned heel collar is really comfortable, although it does let in a lot of debris. This is annoying but I can look past it (I'll probably just buy gaiters), since I've also had past troubles with ankle collars being too high causing friction and bruising on my ankle bone. I was nervous to try zero drop shoes, but transitioned into them slowly during training with no issues. This is probably the only trail shoe I'll buy from now on - please don't make too many changes!! I would love to see these in a women's wide so I can choose from the women's colourways :)

These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned! I have very wide feet so I was skeptical, but was more than surprised to find such comfy shoes in an ever better color!

I bought these shoes to go to a music festival in SF. There was a light incline and had different terrain to walk over. I am really happy with my purchase, totally saved my feet.

I buy the Olympus style of Altra. It is the only Altra style I have tried. I am a FedEx delivery driver, and I make 180 to 200 deliveries a day. I am constantly moving across different types of terrain from concrete, grass, mud, sticks, and gravel. Not to mention the several thousand stair steps I go up and down every day. I average in between 13 to 16 miles a day, 6 days a week. I can usually get about 6 to 8 months out of a pair. That is the main reason I have stuck with the Altra brand. I have tried about 5 other brands, but I can only usually get about 3 months out of a pair. The soles just get worn down too quickly.

The 30-day trial period sold me on trying them. Avid hiker with a skinny foot was impressed that the shoe did not slip at the heel. Love the cushion.

I've owned the Olympus 5 and a version of the Lone Peak. The Olympus 6 is a significant upgrade from the version 5. The issues I had with the version 5 have been improved in the version 6 including a feeling of my toes pressing up on the seam of the toe cap (uncomfortable and annoying) and the heel being pretty loose. They seem to have modified the construction of the toe cap over the upper to make it more streamlined so I can't feel that anymore. With the added padding in the heel cup it's definitely better than before. If I had a suggestion, I'd say they need to narrow the heel cup a little bit and raise the sidewalls in the next version and this shoe would be perfect. Impact cushion is amazing, the look is great and the durability seems to have been improved from the already pretty durable version 5. I would recommend.

I have flat feet, and nothing, and I do mean nothing else, came close to the comfort of these shoes. I assume the people who didn't like the shoes in the comment section must have high arches because these shoes are best for people with flat feet. I've tried dozens of Brands and by far this is the most comfortable other than a few from Skechers I found but I needed some shoes that had better traction in the winter time where I live in Alaska and these shoes definitely do that, I have traction Everywhere I Go. Outstanding shoes! Again for reference I have big size 13 flat feet so there's just not much to choose from for people with such low arches as myself, I am so grateful I found these shoes. They are simply wonderful. If you need art support these might not be the best for you, though you can always buy inserts, there's so many companies out there now selling inserts it should be pretty easy to find some that would help you if you have high arches. As for those of us with flat feet, you'd be hard pressed to find a better shoe. Also I've not had the material issues that some other people reported, perhaps a bad batch when a, they make so many of these shoes that's bound to happen. Quality of my shoes so far has been excellent. Have worn them all over the United States and Canada, no issues. I highly recommend.
