I ordered the Patent Lamper in a size 8. I have very narrow feet, but wear a true 9 in most shoes (Vans, Nike Fly Knit, and pretty much every type of open toed heel). I have seen the unisex 1460 in person and noted that the size 9 looked at least two sizes too big for my feet. I went with the size 8 after hearing that they would stretch and they fit perfectly. Love the shine to the boots and can't wait to see to what they look like once they've been worn in. Wearing very thin summer socks I was able to wear them straight out of the box and they were super comfortable.

It's always a happy day when I get a new pair o' Docs! And soooo glad Doc Martens has purple boots again, since it's my favorite. It's not a bright purple, so they're fine to wear into work as well. I wear ladies size 9, and these were just about right. They feel a little stiff right out of the box, but I figure that will ease up as I wear them, which I plan to do all day today. There's nothing better than a pair of Docs for Seattle's muddy weather.

I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt compelled to leave a stellar review for these boots. I ordered these on a whim before a trip to Denver thinking they would be cute but also functional in the cold, icy weather. I had read numerous horror stories of the extensive break in period (i.e. blisters and bleeding), but thought “what the heck? I’ve got room in my suitcase for a backup pair of boots just in case.” I was so pleasantly surprised at how comfortable these were straight out of the box. Literally had no break in period to speak of. I wore these all weekend in Denver walking 3-4 miles per day around town and had no discomfort WHAT-SO-EVER! My feet stayed dry, warm and blister free the whole weekend! Plus they paired with every outfit I packed…from jeans to leggings – dressy and casual. If you are on the fence about ordering these, do it! You will not regret it. I am a true size 10 and ordered these in a UK8/US10 and they fit perfectly. I wouldn’t recommend sizing down as other reviewers have said. And even on my large foot, these didn’t look like clown shoes. I think the women’s cut is more narrow and flattering for a larger foot.

I bought these for my daughter and she LOVES them. I had a pair just like them when i was younger. They are awesome.

This is my first pair of Docs! They were popular when I was in high school but I never owned any. They seemed so big & clunky. These are fabulous. I ordered the dark purple, very cool and quite subtle. Definitely a "heavy" shoe but not clunky. I have a narrow foot and am normally a 7.5/8. I ordered the size 5 and they are perfect. Definitely stiff at first, they do need to be broken in. But I can tell they're going to be comfortable!

I've worn Docs since the early 90s, and I agree with others that the quality is not what it used to be - and quality control is even worse. I used to be able to order a UK5/US7 in any style, and knew it would fit, and knew the shoe would be made correctly. Now there are issues like: sometimes a UK5 is huge and I need to reorder a UK4. (there is no way I'm a US6). Sometimes it fits great, and you order a second color in the same style, yet the second color fits too big/small. Sometimes the shoes have a flaw - stitching errors or hard lumps in the footbed. None of this used to happen. But all that said, if you manage to find a good pair, they are still better than many shoes out there today. It just takes a lot more effort than it used to. In terms of sizing, start with your normal size for anything Women's or Pascal. Go down a size for anything unisex.

I love them- i heard doc martens had to be broken in. I planned on wearing them at home a little at a time but these were comfortable as soon as i put them on. And they look great!!

Comfortable right out of the box, even though the leather is still stiff, which I feel especially around the ankles. But I’m confident they will break in well. They feel slightly large, but since I bought them for the colder months this is fine - l’ll plan to wear them with thicker socks. The color is beautiful!

The boots are a bit stiff and i presume they run small as many size fives are too big for me- the foot part is very comfortable but as i first noted the top part of the boots is stiff. Hopefully it will soften up.

If anyone is going to wear the boots for the first time, I recommend wearing mini crew socks because the boots can cause discomfort and blisters if ankle socks are being used.

My daughter loves these! She did say they required a bit of breaking in, but that it didn't take long. The color is very unique. Almost more of a dark copper than red, but really pretty. On a side note, I have to say that Zappos has the most amazing customer service. There was a mix up on the boots we first received, but one phone call to customer service solved it. They were so friendly and polite, and had the new boots to us within two days. I will continue to order from Zappos. They never disappoint!

I bought these boots in a US8/UK6 in the Cherry Red Arcadia leather. I also own black lace-up Docs with the slight heel from a few years back. Over all, these Docs in the Cherry Red Arcadia leather are amazing. I receive compliments every time I wear them. They are black in color with subtle merlot red underpinnings. The more you wear the boots, the more the red shines through. There's a nice polish to these so they are more dressy than the muted Docs. I wear all my boots with Smartwool medium cushion crew socks, so the fit is great and comfortable right out of the box. The only deterimental aspect to the boots are the laces they come with. For my taste they are too short and slippery. I replaced mine with Delele brand wave, non-slip climbing shoe laces in black and another pair in red and black string rope boot lace style (from Amazon). The non-slip laces don't need double-knotting and the 62.99" are perfect for these boots. The red/black laces add a little bit of color and fun to an outfit when I'm in the mood.

Normally I wear a size 8 but if felt too roomy. I figured the boots would relax with wear so tried a size 7 (they only come in whole sizes). The 7’s fit perfectly!!

I have been wanting Docs again for...well, a very long time. I’ve always loved the cherry red color and I’m so thrilled I finally went ahead and ordered them. I have to say, I was nervous reading reviews about them being uncomfortable and difficult to break in. I’m being completely honest that they were perfect right out of the box. Fit was perfect (I ordered my usual size 9) and they are super comfy and supportive. I’m so happy with my purchase. And I have terrible feet, plantar fasciitis and bunions from years of ballet followed by years of being a makeup artist on my feet all day. I should have just been wearing these the whole time!

Flashback to the 90’s! Love these classic boots! I wear a size 7, sometimes 7.5. I ordered the 7 and they fit perfectly. My feet are on the narrow side, and the width felt just right, so someone with wider feet might have an issue. Excellent arch support. They’re on the stiff side, but, that’s to be expected with Dr Martens, can’t wait to break them in. The color is to DIE for! Deep rich red, almost black/brown. Love them!

I love the look of Doc Martens but have been hesitant to purchase another pair because in the past I have found they tend to feel very uncomfortable right out of the box. And so I usually end up returning them. I decided to get a pair anyway and make a commitment to the "one-month" rule, which is apparently what it takes to break them in (there's even a Wikihow on the best way to break them in ... God bless Google! Haha). But these shoes were actually quite comfortable right out of the box. I usually wear an 8 - 8.5 and I followed the advice of other reviewers and went for the smaller size. They ARE a little weird feeling compared to most other shoes ... slightly too long in the toe and slightly too tight along the sides, but still are quite comfortable (and I'm sure they'll loosen up on the sides as time goes on). I get a lot of compliments on them and am now hooked on Docs!

I’m usually a size 7 but they were far too large. Size 6 fit far better but in between would be perfect. Takes a while to break in but soooo good looking.

I ordered 6 different pairs of Docs (no joke) trying to find the perfect fit. I thought the super-soft leather versions or the zip versions would be best, but nope... I ended up with these. My feet run a little narrow and these felt like the best fit without speciality insoles (which I normally need to make boots fit). They definitely feel narrower than the unisex Docs. I wear an 8.5 US women's and I went with the 8 US women's. They remind me of the Docs I had in high school, except a lovely muted purple. I thought surely I wouldn't be up for the awful break-in period that I remember from those days, but it wasn't that bad! I took it slow... I wore them a couple hours a day for a few days and once the heel had softened up enough I could wear them all day. They were a little bit tight with wool socks, but have stretched out comfortably. I hope these last a very, very long time.

I love these boots! Very great style and versatile with different clothes! A little note on the fit: I originally bought these in a women's 8. I have wide, 7.5 feet, and I also need additional arch support, so I wear inserts. Most size 8 shoes accommodate for my wide feet and inserts, but these actually ended up being very big. Even with inserts and thicker socks, my foot was sliding around and my heel was lifting up off the sole. I ordered a 7 (since there is no 7.5). I was worried that they would run too small, but despite my wide feet the fit is much better! With inserts, they are still a bit snug on the top part of my foot, but after a day of wearing them, I can feel them stretching out. If I take my inserts out, they are a perfect fit!

I bought these for my daughter and she loves them. She has a narrow size 7 1/2 foot and I bought her these in a size 7. With thick socks, she said they fit great. They are a bit stiff to begin with, but after a few wears, she says that they are comfy. This is a super cute style that looks slick and not at all clowny or clunky, as some combat boots can be.
