Wear these daily. Would have given them a 5-star but I feel they need more cushion in the heel and toes. I have older Smartwool socks and they have more cushion.

Good socks for hiking; fit is snug; developed a hole by big toenail; other than that, felt very comfortable.

I bought these for my husband in size medium, he wears an 11.5 shoe. Fit was fine but they looked ridiculous with shorts as they fit well above the ankle.

Heel/toe padding are same but the rest of the sock got thinner. Like buying a bag of chips, to avoid price increase, you look inside bag and find less chips.

I've been getting Smartwool socks for a long time, & until now have been very happy with them. I just purchased more & they are nowhere near as comfortable as they used to be, because they are way thinner, & the supposed targeted cushioning is basically non-existent. Not only does that make them a lot less comfortable, but it means they leave my shoes fitting too loosely. The previous cushioning & comfort are among the main reasons I have long loved these socks. They are also the only wool I can wear w/o getting hives, & the quality used to be very good, but it seems to have also gone way downhill this time. I can't say for sure since I just got them, but the thinness of the material makes it appear that they are not goign to last near as long as previous socks. (& yes, I get the same couple of types of socks every time, so that's not the reason for the change.) Spending over $100 for 5 pairs of socks (price has increased) & then finding that they are less comfortable than the worn out ones I bought them to replace is really not making me happy at all. I would return them, but not only have I washed them & am wearing a pair, but I also wouldn't have anything to replace them with, since they have been my go-to for a long time. Since I recycled the old pairs, I'd be without socks in the meantime. This is the 1st time in many many years that I would not recommend Smartwool socks, especially for the price. They used to be worth it, but now they are not. Sadly, I don't think I will be purchasing from Smartwool again, unless I read future reviews that this issue has been fixed.
