I LOVE these shoes. Unfortunately the straps are so loose I had to return them. I own 6 pairs of Birkenstocks and have never had this issue. So disappointing because I loved everything about them.

The main problem with this shoe is that the size felt way too wide even on the tightest hole adjustment. I bought the narrow width. The material is definitely going to stretch. I compared the location of the hole punches on the straps with another pair of Birkenstocks I own in the same style and the holes on this pair were placed too far out toward the end of the strap making it impossible to tighten them to my needs. I have normal (not wide or narrow feet) and have worn Birkenstocks for years. This may be a defective pair.

Fite was a bit too short.

Fit and size were fine. I'm returning them because the buckles are plastic and cheezy looking.

Too small

I would not get this style again. The bed is comfortable, yes, but the straps are so soft that they keep stretching. When they arrived, I needed to add an extra hole to each of the straps because the tightest setting was too loose. I do have narrow feet, and have had to add an extra hole to Birkenstocks in the past, but one extra hole on these wasn’t enough. After a few months, the suede had stretched to the point where I had to add a second hole on each strap. A year later, ready from summer, and they need a THIRD hole added to each strap - which I don’t want to do because the resulting overhang of straps would be too long and a tripping hazard. So they are now too loose and fall off my feet easily. They are a European 43 when I’d normally wear a Eur 44, so length isn’t the issue. I ordered the smaller size based on other reviews.

I have 5 or 6 pair of suede Arizonas--unisex and women's--some the suede is soft; some there's a little more structure. I love this antique white. But the antique white suede is really, really soft. Didn't feel like I had enough strap support--to secure my foot to the footbed. And straps seem to be longer. I would have needed to punch another hole. I've never had to do that in a pair of Arizonas. I don't want to do that in $140 pair of shoes. Sad that these won't work for me.

I previously tried the EU 39N, which is alleged to be 8-8.5 and my toes tended to hit the ridge, so it seemed a bit too short. I then ordered the 40N. The width was fine, but the length was too long and with my heel in the heel cup there was more than 1/2 inch in front of my toes. I normally wear a sz 9 in women's shoes. I looked online and saw a different chart for Birkenstock and it said 8.5-9 is a 39. I wonder if this chart is an older chart and if Birkenstock changed their sizing? The other issue I had with this particular shoe in suede is how raggedy the suede was. What's with the rough appearance? Is that supposed to be trendy? It looks cheap imho. I will be sending these back. Not sure what to do ... if I should order the 39 in regular width as some other ladies did and who said the regular width also gives you more room in length? Or just scrap Birkenstock altogether and move on to another brand? I really wanted these to work!

Maybe it’s me, but now I know how to identify narrow vs wide version. I have returned 2 pairs so far, with the first fitting but looked like someone wore them with dirty feet for a week then returned. Second pair was wide, even though I ordered narrow. I’m trying for pair #3 so will see tomorrow if what I receive is correct width. Zappos, you need better quality control, please.

The fit is wider than expected...if you have narrow feet, it will be somewhat loose on the foot even when tightened on the sides. one would have to add another hole to make it tighter. i'm afraid this didn't work as i hoped and i need more arch support / cushion. i'm waiting on the closed toed version and hopefully it'll be more cushioned or i have to try another brand. i like the soft suede feel as it doesn't irritate my skin though.

Suede was very light weight

Surprisingly uncomfortable for what I thought was supposed to be a famously comfortable shoe. I can't walk in these long distance without having considerable pain in my arches and weirdly, the tops of my feet. I've never had this issue with any other shoe. It feels like I have to splay my toes out to walk in these even when they're set in the tightest position. I have somewhat wide feet so it doesn't make sense that these would be too wide.

Did anyone else receive a pair that has what looks like dried blobs of glue all over where the footbed meets the sole. Looks awful. I chatted with Zappos customer service and they weren't as helpful as they used to be. I'm going to have to send them back, and hope that I don't receive a pair with a similar issue. So much for quality control. Buying direct from the company might be a better idea?

Perhaps I forgot because it's been years since I bought a pair of Arizona birks, but the arch support felt so high, and more importantly, very hard which is why I am returning. The shoes are beautiful and well constructed in any other way but someone like me who doesn't need much arch support should definitely consider this when purchasing

The unisex size at 37 did not fir my foot the same as the other women's Arizona Softbed sandal I bought in 37. Based on true sizing I should be a 38, but experience in Birkenstocks tells me to get a size smaller. I haven't tried other unisex sizes before, so not sure if this is a one off, but the toe bed for me was hitting in all the wrong spots. I kept the women's sandal.

I struggle with the style, as I am between a 40 and 41. Going to send these back. I wanted them to fit as they are so very soft. Will try a new style to see if I can find a good fit. The arch and toe grip must fit in the right spot. The other issue is I couldn't buckle them tight enough to keep them from floating on foot.

I think birkenstock has changed over the last two years. Their soft footbeds no longer feel soft at all. They feel like rocks. I know you have to break them in for a bit, as I've worn birks for over 45 years and this is the first time I returned any pair-ever. I compared a three year old pair of soft footbed Arizonas that I have to these and the old pair had a softer footbed, even being worn down hard. Don't know what is going on. I may reorder and have my shoemaker add layer of spenco material to pad the footbed but if that doesn't work, I'm out the money. Birks have been my go to for my finicky feet for years so I'm feeling lost ......
