Really interesting shoe. Initially I was put off by the low heel as walking in them felt VERY odd. However these are trail shoes and they are predominantly for running. When I ran in them felt no issue with the reduce heel depth but I do not heel strike, if you heel strike these are possibly not the best shoes for you (the mid foot section of the sole has more padding than the heel). The lugs are good, would wear out quickly on tarmac so don't ruin these shoes doing that. I recommend on mixed trails of semi compacted, which the large amounts of padding is good for, wet terrain and mud. decent for long runs, very comfortable. On super soft ground you'll loose a lot of energy through the cushioning. I'm currently on my 4th pair of Arcteryx Norman LD3's and been through one pair of Norman LD2. These are completely different shoe to them. Slightly narrower than the LD3 but wider than LD2.

I have had my Sylan's for a couple weeks now and I couldn't be more pleased. I am a big fan of the arc of the shoe, it allows for a very comfortable and appealing run.

Happy with these so far. I haven't had them in truly wet conditions yet but some fairly heavy rain and stayed completely dry. The grip is excellent on our soggy BC trails, but I do find them fairly unstable due to the height, but thats mostly a me problem due. Im curious to try one of Arc'teryx's lower riding runners because they did a great job on these so far. Can't speak to their durability as I've only been out in them a dozen or so times, but hopefully its better than the Kopecs which got fried pretty quickly.

I've been ordering the Norvan LD 4 GTX for a couple of years now & love them. I tried to order these in the same size that I get in the Norvan, but they are a lot tighter towards the front of the foot. I'm going to try ordering a half size up & see if that helps. The Norvan are my go to shoe for work. I own an outdoor lighting company & i install on all kinds of terrain. I've never had a pair of shoes hold up this so well. They never fall apart. I will stick with this brand for a long time that's for sure.

I'm insanely impressed with these shoes. Like everyone else, I've tried just about every imaginable trail shoe and the Sylan is far superior. I have very regular feet and a normal'ish gait, these work perfectly for me. The finish is outstanding!

I've bought the shoe for daily walking, I had foot surgery and the rounded sole helps me to keep pressure off my heels and toes.

I already owned Konseal FL 2 Leather GTX and my impression remains excellent in terms of support on all types of terrain. The Sylan is different because it is a trail shoe. My heel systematically escapes from the shoe even when tightening the laces as much as possible. I think the warped shape of the sole is the cause of this inconvenience.

Probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I have only walked in them at this point but it was -20c with snow and the grip the shoes provided was amazing!

Varies slightly from your normal size (we've had both issues men's seem to run slightly small, women's slightly large) but GREAT shoes for the PNW or similar climate - comfortable, gortex, extra rubber and FEATHER weight. Include a special little pocket for your tied laces, to keep them dry/out of the way. Though these shoes are meant for trail running, they work well for everyday...especially in our wet climate. Edgy style and functional. Say good bye to your rubber boots?! Both male and female in our house share the love for these shoes.

Very impressed (tho not surprised) at the apparent quality and look of these shoes. Very supportive and comfortable during first couple lite runs. Time will tell how they hold up in weather and longer use but initial impression is excellent product!

The shoes are great. Very comfortable and soft to walk or run in. The rubber is grippy and the little pocket on the shoe tounge to stow away the laces is very practical. I am yet to see how durable they are since I just got them. So far so good.

Was initially leery of rocker styling, but jumped in and love, love, love them! Felt a bit different compared to Norvan LD 3 GTX that I wore all summer, but now dont notice difference. They are beyond comfortabledont hesitate!

Awesome looking shoe, loved the cushioning and rocker too. Unfortunately had to return the shoe because I couldn't get my heel locked down.

I own Aerios FL 2 Mid GTX size 12.5 US shoes. They were noticeably more comfortable with better fit than previous hiking shoes. I bought them for a trip to Costa Rica. They had a little heel lift, ample toe room and zero toe jam so I figured I had probably gotten half size too big.
So, I tried mens size 12 Sylan GTX to see how they felt. The toe box was very cramped even though there was no toe jam and probably about 3/8 from toe tip to contact with shoe. I ran around inside the house and could feel the very cushioned rocker effect. I knew I wanted that but the constricted toe box was too painful so I returned intending to try next size up after trip to China. I now have both GTX and non-GTX Sylan sz 12.5 US from an online store. The GTX version upper is noticeably stiffer which makes it feel (uncomfortably) tighter and also feels like it has both more cushion and rocker induced propulsion. The non-GTX lacks the tabs at heel and toe to assist getting the shoe on, and gains a tight fitting sock like tongue liner that wraps around the ankle extending about 3/4 further up the ankle than the GTX. Theres also a different feel to the joint of materials above the toes with the non-GTX having a more noticeable ridge. Both shoes are still tight in the toe box compared to the Aerios and I am wearing them around the house to decide. If you are looking for a more cushioned shoe that propels you forward this might be it. As for trail running, I have not tried yet but imagine these to absorb the rocks better and reduce stability due to the higher platform height and more rounded periphery of the sole. Basically built for straight ahead speed and comfort.

I love the aesthetics, materials, rocker of the midsole and outsole.
However, this shoe has a fatal flaw. The heel is way too low. So frustrating and weird. This is a goretex shoe. That inherently implies you need it to stay dry and keep the elements out. So, taking the risk of having such a low heel height is such an unforced error. It a glaring mistake. Additionally, the low heel height creates excessive heel slip. Perhaps lastly, the heel collar itself doesn't sit over the widest part of the calcaneus and hug the achilles that would help the slip issue, it instead wraps around AT the widest part of your heel - also not helpful. I am wondering if you have the same designer as on the NIKE ACG?? They have the exact same problem in the heel of their goretex trail shoes in the current model and over the past several seasons. To get everything so close to right and muck the heel so badly is just sad.

I had the Norvan 3's for 2 years they were awesome - very soft and long lasting cushion and durable (I bought a second pair). Then I bought and the Norvan 4's - they were as hard as stone and I returned them. Then I contacted support to ask about the Sylan's comfort and softness - they said, and quote, "they are softer than the Norvan 3's". Great, I thought, so I ordered them. Not true. The Sylan are as hard as the Norvan 4's. And, the Sylan's are very narrow. The Norvans 3 were wide (like E width). By comparison, the Sylan's are probably C width. I RETURNED THEM. I really like Arteryx - The products are durable and well made. However, they seem to have done something with the shoe sole compound that they are now all very hard. Also, not sure why the width would be inconsistent across the trail running line. I want to buy more shoes from them, but they are making it difficult...

I tried the size 12 first before bumping it up to size 13.
The material is very hard and a bit uncomfortable compared to the non-GTX Sylan, which fits like a glove.
Note that the shoe tongue is also designed differently. Overall, the fit of the non-GTX Sylan and the GTX Sylan is very different. Make sure you try both before buying.

The Sylan GTX shoe is decent but specialized in need. The Midsole rocker provides stability for joggers and midsole walkers. During walks, the rocker feels awkward compared to other rocker shoes such as the Hokas and the New Balances. A previous review mentioned the lowered heel and I would like to highlight this as well. The transition from heel strike to midsole is not the smoothest. I feel that my arch is supported neutrally at the cost of the lowered design and less cushioning.
This shoe is not for those who have wide feet and those who have hyperhidrosis. The shoe is not breathable
