The built in tongue is very very tight even with my narrower foot. I tried two different sizes but had to return both pairs due to the uncomfortable tongue. The shoe is however, is a beautiful color!!

The outer soul feels weirdly tilted. My feet don't feel level in these sneakers - it feels like it's tilted sideways, like my foot is rolling to the side.

Had to use shoe horn in order to get my foot in. Great once it was on. Too inconvenient to get on

As others have stated the fixed tongue is a non-starter. Love the way they look. Comfortable once you get them on however my feet expand when traveling on airplanes, hot weather and long walks. These aren't really adjustable due to the style.

The shoe is like a water sock without the traditional tongue spread, so it's difficult to get your foot in the shoe. Looks good once you squeeze it on!

Not very supportive, rubs in weird parts of the shoe, more stylish than functional.

I LOVED past versions of the Alpine 83 and have purchased multiple pairs. The recraft includes an attached tongue/ scuba bootie shoe opening that does not work for anyone with poor hand dexterity, high arches, or difficulty reaching their feet. The shoe is a project to put on. It's also less comfortable around the ankle. I hope Merrell returns to their tried and true design on the next iteration. The shoe remains well-made and beautiful.

The fixed tongue made it difficult to put on. I do like the color combo.

I buy a pair of alpine sneakers every year, but was very disappointed this year, as they have changed the design. The new design makes it difficult to put on the shoe, and the top rubs against my ankles, making it pretty uncomfortable to be wearing them all day. It's so disappointing because I absolutely loved this style!

The laces aren't of the tie up variety and the tongue of the shoe irritates the top of the foot. I love Merrill's but these weren't the best fit for me.

Following the size guide on the item page, I ordered a half size up, up to size 9. The shoes took 10 days to get to me, and unfortunately, they are too large. Now I have print a return label, ship them back, and wait for Merrell to receive my return before they ship my replacement in a smaller size. The whole process is very slow and I wish I had ordered them from a different website.

My feet just flopped around in these after sizing up as site recommended. They are really wide too. This will be my first Merrell return, because I love their shoes!!!

These shoes had to be sent back, because the opening was difficult for even my daughter's slim, narrow foot to get on.

So uncomfortable. The tongue is one large piece so no matter how much you loosen the shoes it's still really tight in that are around the top of the foot. Plus very tight putting your foot in the shoe. No cushion. Just overall very uncomfortable shoe. Style wise attractive but be prepared for feet to hurt. If you want to sacrifice comfort these are the shoes for you.

I have worn and love Merrill sneakers for years, but these are a complete failure. I wanted a lightweight sneaker that I could slip on and ordered a half size up as the reviewers recommended. But the fabric is thin and the stitched-in tongue makes getting them on almost impossible -- and the extra half size that was supposed to ease the slipping on makes me feel like I'm wearing clown shoes. I thought I all this would go away after a short walk, but now I'm left with once-worn reasonably expensive sneakers I'll probably never wear again. Definitely do not recommend these.

Loved the style and ruggedness but the heel is elevated! Therefore it can't be a comfort shoe. I wish Merrell would stop doing that!

I have been wearing Moabs for many years on my daily 4-5km walks, so I was excited to try the Alpine Sneaker, expecting similar performance & comfort. Unfortunately in the first week of wearing these after only a 30 min walk I developed pain in the ball of my left foot. It was sore the rest of the day & the next morning was very swollen & tender to the point I was limping. I ended up needing to stop my walks and rest for over a week, wearing a metatarsal cushion to allow my foot to heal. I can only think this was caused by the shoe, the footbed seems quite rigid so maybe that? Nothing else was out of the ordinary & I've never had this kind of issue with my feet before. These shoes are cute & the colours are stylish, but they actually injured me so I cannot recommend them if you plan on walking in them for more than half an hour.

WHY WHY did Merrell get rid of the original Alpine??? Leave well enough alone, that was a great shoe! PLEASE bring back the original, these are garbage.
