I ordered these boots. Miriam is my daughter's mother and she accepted delivery of them. I love them! The maroon color is nice in person and the leather has that very pleasant smell. These are high quality. The commando sole is so comfortable. I have a wide foot and wear 11 3E. The regular Higgins boot is nice and I have them with the Dainite sole in the same size. I like these better! They fit better and are easier to put in and take off with the side zipper. My feet never hurt with these on and there was no break in period! Hands down, the most comfortable footwear I own are these! You wear them with some dressy wear or casual. The leather on these are pretty durable but haven't worn them out in the rain! They will probably hold up but I love them and want to take care of them!

Very comfortable out of the box, good fit and finish, runs true to size. Very happy with the purchase.

Very pleased with these Higgins Mill Lug Soles "Husk" color boots! The husk boots have the rough leather out and look fantastic. I wanted quality shoes/boots made in the USA and that's exactly what I got!

These boots are exactly as I had hoped they'd be - comfortable. Not only are they comfortable, they're great looking. I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend. FYSA: normally I wear a 9.5 in EA dress shoes but had to buy 9's for this boot.

I purchased this boot in the weathered look, . They are comfortable and look great. I could walk in them on an overseas trip, I do believe.

Amazingly comfortable right out of the box. I spent 11 hours on my feet the first time I wore these boots, they are very supple and comfortable. After the first day I am extremely satisfied.. hopefully a year from now I will still like them as well and be commenting on the durability. Lee K

Got them as a gift, they fit perfectly and look beautiful.

Have worn this boot for about 6 weeks now and want to wear it more. The zip really is an easy on and off feature. Comfortable and lightweight for a boot. A must have in the collection. I see myself wearing this a lot this fall and winter!

I really like these boots -- they're a very different look than most AE shoes and boots. The suede is very rough, with the lug sole they're very rugged looking, which is what I wanted. That plus weatherproof had me sold. Zipper is nice too, very quick on and off. Only issue is the heel fit, the raised edge of the insole makes my heel hit the back of the boot at an odd place and they're pretty sore after wearing them. I think this will resolve with more break in, but I never had the issue with my other pair of Higgins Mill.

My first choice would not have been this new model with zippers and deep lug sole. I was trying to get the no-zipper model but it is no longer available in my size or only available as F2. The older model was zipper-free and came with the XL Extralight sole which is super lightweight and comfy. I'm not crazy about the deep lugs in this new version because A) these are pebble magnets, and B) I don't plan to build a deck or do gardening with any of my HM boots. The main pros to this new sole is that it is obviously more durable than the XL. The main con is that it is heavier. As far as the zippers, the pro is that it is more convenient to take on/off. The con is that it will probably let water in easier when stepping in a puddle... kind of kills the whole "weatherproof" thing IMO. If I had to opt for a heavier lug sole on the HM, I would have chosen the Itshide Commando sole.

First of all, I love Allen Edmonds. The Zipper Higgins Mill is a wonderfully constructed boot. My black pair is perfection. But the Husk looks like it's rotting. Is it really suede as the website says? Or is it a distressed leather? I have the regular Higgins in Loden Suede, and the Dark Brown Waxed Suede, and the only maintenance they need is the regular suede eraser and brush. But look how disgusting the "Husk" looks. After these photos, I cleaned and moisturized and polished the boots and they looked pretty great again. Weird to do on suede, but something needed to be done. But after 2 wearing they almost look as bad again. I would love to see Allen Edmonds give me feedback on how to care for these, because I feel I've tried everything.
