I recently replaced my tried and true AE Cavanaugh loafers with a new pair. Upon comparison, the new loafers offer a more forgiving fit in the mid-foot area. The leather is a bit stiff at first, but after a week of wear, they are breaking in nicely. I expect them to last a long time, and I'm already receiving compliments on them. For sizing reference, I wear a size 9 in Nike, and for AE, I went with size 8D, which fits perfectly.

These are phenomenal. The fit and finish are excellent, possibly the best-looking shoe I've ever worn. I ordered the antique bronze first, and it was so nice that I picked up the antique burgundy as well. Great job, Allen Edmonds!

I have pairs of the Newman - bronze and burgundy. They are both hand rubbed and finished, and are the best made and best looking penny loafers I have ever owned. Worth every penny!

Had my eye on these and they did not disappoint. Very comfortable but with great support that's almost springy. Just a really well made shoe with an excellent finish and sheen after several wears. Looks good with jeans too. Would definitely recommend.

The 3E Newman is narrower than other AE shoes, so I had to stretch the left considerably to wear it without pain. Obviously, I have different-sized feet, but I've never had to stretch an AE 3E before, so I was a little surprised. It's a beautiful shoe, beautiful color, and well-crafted as far as I can tell.

This burgundy loafer is a classic design, easy to wear when you dress down in jeans or when going business casual.

As other reviews stated. The Antinque Burgundy and the Bronze have a shiny finish, almost like a clear coat. The color does look amazing and the build is incredible. If AE makes this color in a traditional leather finish, like the Black or the Pecan I would purchase. As to the fit, I plan to order 1/2 size small as these felt slightly loose, probably just a normal Loafer fitting.

I really like this shoe except for a couple of things. The 3E is very snug compared to other AE shoes. I had to stretch the left considerably to wear it without pain. I'm also not crazy about the color, but it's the closest I could get to a traditional beef roll penny loafer color from any quality manufacturer in 3E. The antiqued bronze is a bit tacky, looking like cheap furniture from the 90s. I'm actually surprised AE strayed this far from tradition. Fortunately no one notices except me, so it might be a me problem. And it isn't really the color of this shoe since I bought it, knowing that it was mildly objectionable, but that AE doesn't make the 3E Newman in traditional cordovan or brown. They do make a Pecan, which is beautiful (and which I own).

Really stiff, feel like they'll take forever to break in. Shoes run a little large.

I have ten pair of AE shoes, my favorite shoes are the Cavanaugh Penny Loafers that I recently had recrafted and continue to enjoy. I wanted another pair and was disappointed they had been discontinued. The Newman is supposed to be the replacement but I don't like it nearly as well. It is a stiff shoe and the fit is not quite right. The Newman is typical AE good quality but I enjoy the Cavanaugh much more.

I deeply regret buying a pair of the Newman Penny Loafers in Antique Burgundy Leather. I want to stress: my review applies only to the Antique Burgundy version. I'll also add that I've owned more than 20 pairs of AE shoes over the years and have been very satisfied with almost all of them. So I'm a fan. With this pair, I was surprised straight off when opening the box. The leather was very glossy--almost like a patent leather. Or a synthetic material. I wasn't sure how I would care for them or polish them. The upper leather also was incredibly stiff. When I tried them on they were snug, but not uncomfortable and I thought, optimistically, that they would break in and stretch out soon as AE shoes generally do. And perhaps the shiny leather would lose some of that gloss. So I took them with me on a short trip the next day. The first day they remained snug and I was happy to get then off at the end of the day. The second day I developed a bad blister on the back of one foot and it was incredibly painful to walk. I found a store and bought another pair of super comfortable shoes to finish the trip. I returned home two days ago and, honestly, I'm not sure I'll wear the the AE pair again. It's really disappointing for a brand I've been so committed to.

I was hoping to find a dark, soft leather penny loafer. It's not this shoe.
