Im very impressed with the cut and fit of this jacket. The manufacturer thought creatively regarding the range of movement required for various outdoor sports. The underarm gussets and extra sleeve length work well for overhead reaching while wearing a pack or harness. Of course the Goretex Pro provides excellent protection from the elements while remaining very breathable. Combined with the underarm vents, comfort on the move is easy to achieve. Im certainly glad that I chose the BETA AR with the independent stand collar and fully adjustable hood. Whether wearing a helmet or not, you can always adjust the hood for the perfect fit.
Thanks Arcteryx

I bought this to replace a 20ish year old Beta LT jacket...could not be happier. Bit lighter than the ARs I have had in the past and is perfect for what I needed it for...around town and hiking rain protection. Plus, it has that Arc'Teryx look which fits great. 5' 10", 190lbs, athletic build, Large fits perfect with some layering room to spare.

Recently bought this jacket and used it for the first time on a trip to Park City, Utah. I wanted a versatile shell that I could use for skiing, snowmobiling, and anything else I needed it for. This jacket worked great. Took plenty of falls on the slopes and had zero issue. The fabric is a good thickness and very durable. I would recommend this as a good all around shell. Im 275 lb and bought an XXL. Wasnt oversized but gave a good amount of room for layering underneath.

One of the jackets most lauded features is its adaptability to varying temperatures. In warmer weather, it serves as an impenetrable raincoat, keeping you dry during downpours without causing overheating. When the mercury drops, pairing it with a fleece transforms the Beta AR into a cozy bastion against the cold. This adaptability makes it a smart choice for those looking to minimize their gear without sacrificing comfort or protection.
However, excellence comes at a price. The Beta AR is an investment, but for those who require a jacket that will perform in a wide range of conditions and last for years, its an investment worth making.
In conclusion, the Arcteryx Beta AR Shell Jacket is a marvel of outdoor gear, offering unparalleled versatility, protection, and durability. Whether faced with rain, wind, or cold, this jacket adapts seamlessly, ensuring that your adventure continues, regardless of the weather. For anyone in search of a single jacket that can handle the unpredictability of the great outdoors, the Beta AR is a clear choice.

I received my Beta AR jacket recently and have not had the chance to fully enjoy/test the jacket just yet so this review will be aimed more at Arcteryxs exceptional customer service.
Heres an example: I was on a ski trip a month ago and was using my Stingray jacket from 2006 when, on the last day, the snow skirt tore off. The rest of the jacket was still in incredible shape but I thought Id contact Arcteryx anyways.
Upon contacting them, I was told I could get a 100% credit for the full price of the jacketan 18 year old jacket! I have since sent in my old jacket and used the credit to purchase my new Beta AR that I am sure will accompany me on many more adventures.
I was very impressed with this level of service, please keep it up going forward Arcteryx!

This jacket is fantastic, but the company itself is beyond amazing. I had first purchased this jacket in 2007. Recently the seam tape on the inside started coming loose. I sent the jacket into Arcteryx for repair. They notified me of their inability to repair back to original condition. They gave me a credit of 100% of the original cost of the jacket and said I could use that credit toward the purchase of a brand new jacket. I am unaware of another company that would do something like that. Incredible! I am an Arcteryx customer for life. Their products are terrific. Original cost is pricey, but the company stands behind their products as evidenced by their credit of 100% of the original purchase price after 17 years of use. I am still blown away by how they took care of me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Rock solid shell. Have been wearing it daily. Plus I recently skied in it. It repelled all the elements: rain, sleet and wind. Hood fit perfectly over my helmet and the pit zips dumped a load of heat when I I was overheating. I'm athletic 5'9, 180lbs and the large fits perfectly. Just loose enough to easily layer without being a tent when I eventually wear just a t-shirt under come summer.

Bought this on April 3rd, 2023. The hood already has a problem that renders the jacket useless. Tried to put in a request to get it repaired but the website seems to purposefully not work so I will just keep getting a error message when I make a request. This jacket is not durable as I barely wore it!

My third Beta AR. The piece you want in your pack for rain and/or high winds.
At 6 feet, 155 pounds, 40 inch chest, a medium fits fine though a little tight under arms with an atom AR puffy.
An heavier layer would not be comfortable and a size large Beta AR would be way too big.
Arteryx service is fantastic.

I bought this jacket in the fall, its proved versatile in layering, breathes well, and is incredibly waterproof. Great pockets and a nice looking collar make it good for the city and remote locations alike.

So far, so good. I have yet to wear the shell in extreme conditions, but in a heavy rain, all's good. I also want to compliment Arc'Teryx Customer Support, who gave me full credit on a 13 year shell that had delaminated. Excellent customer service!

I sent in my 2013 Made in Canada Beta AR (sigh) for repair after the hem gave out. I whomped on that thing for 10 ski seasons and it really was a fantastic jacket. When they emailed me that I could replace it with the new model for $70 I had to think long and hard about it but I am glad I did. Customer service process was very clunky (took about a month to get an answer) - so instead of emailing call them.
The new model is definitely a much different jacket in fit and construction. My use case is as a ski jacket so keep that in mind that some changes may be awesome for me but not for your use case. In short if you aren't going to layer under this jacket - then size down BUT if you plan to add multiple layers (even down layers) then order your normal size.
Some of the changes I noted from my 2013 model are; much longer in the front and back. The jacket now fully covers my longest mid layers which is a nice change. The collar is MUCH higher and provides way better protection that the 2013 model. Just a note about this - since the collar is much higher you can not wear hooded mid layers under this coat (go with the storm hood model instead). The sizing in the mid part of the jacket is larger than the 2013 model which accommodates any mid layer you could reasonably want to wear (prior 2013 model I was straining it with a mid weight down jacket under it). The sleeve design is way, way, way improved. They have basically 3D cut the sleeve to match your arm articulation now whereas before it was just a straight down cut. Articulation is really good. My only minor gripe with the fit is the sleeves are MUCH longer. My jacket is going down over ski gloves so not a huge deal and I get it why they did this - you had to increase sleeve length when you make everything else longer or else it looks wonky.
Materials. The updated Gore-Tex Pro fabric has an amazing feel to it and is much less crinkly than the 2013 version I had before. I got the blue tetra color and oh man the website does not do this justice. Its amazing. The jacket color does have a bit of sheen to it but it really has a nice look. Both the 80D reinforced areas and the 40D areas have a very nice feel to them. The zippers for the pockets and pit zips are light years ahead of my 2013 model - meaning they are much easier to operate. This jacket is Made in Vietnam. Overall construction seems top notch and the stitching is the best I have seen on any jacket. Time will tell if it remains as durable as my 2013 did.
Overall I think this is the best hardshell Arcteryx makes (for my use) as they have the fit dialed in just right (big but not huge, room for layers, but not sloppy). As a comparison I tried the Sabre jacket in large and that thing fits like a shower curtain. I'm 5'9" tall and 190 lbs with a 42 inch chest and 34 inch waist. I got the large.

Great jacket. Ive used this as a rain jacket in torrential downpours and its my primary ski shell. The hood is the best in the rain of any jacket Ive ever used. The fit is good with enough space to layer, but not too bulky feeling. The only complaint I have is after several years the zipper has become a little finicky and sometimes separates. Even after washing an lubricating the zipper I still have this issue. Otherwise this jacket feels perfect as a very waterproof do everything shell

I bought this for my son for xmas. The jacket itself is very good quality. but for this amount of money I would have thought that it would come in a nice box or something on delivery. Instead it came in a flimsy packing bag. It surprised me because I bought a similar priced coat from Canada goose and it came in a beautiful box with a CG hanger and a beautiful dust jacket protector. I expected more from Arteryx. so the 4 stars is for the quality of the jacket but disappointed in the way it was delivered for the price I paid.

Haven't had a chance to try the BETA AR in bad weather yet but the construction seems solid. BUT if you can, go to an Arc'teryx Store and learn about the different products. The manger in Manhasset NY gave me a thorough explanation about the differences in the products. Great experience!

Got this jacket a few months ago and I can say this jacket is a beast of a jacket. I own a lot of jackets, from marmot, or, Patagonia, and Arcteryx. I keep finding myself go for this jacket every time. Its durable, sleek, and of course water resistant. You probably will not ever have to buy another jacket. I know they can be pricey but they hold their value and will last a long time. They are also backed by and Incredible warranty.

I bought a beta ar jacket about 2 months ago and I love it! Its perfect for anything from walking around town or backpacking with friends. Also it works very well with the Atom Lt jacket for layering. The jacket is very light but durable. Would 100% recommend this product to anyone!

I have had an earlier version for @ 5 years now. Been hiking, snowshoeing and skiing with this jacket. Not too tight a fit which means you can layer underneeth. Very versatile jacket.

I live in the UK , a MLTB Mountain Leader, and have a BetaAR jacket. It is less than 4 years old and in reality has been used very little, and when stored, out of sunlight etc. It still looks like new, except...
The issue is the top of the hood has delaminated.
I have looked online and it seems others have had the same problem and when they send it to the European customer service centre, it seems to stay with them for a number of weeks, before the answer comes back there is nothing they can do.
So, forewarned is forearmed, it is an expensive jacket. If you are lucky and you don't have any problems, it will be great. If not, then you could be looking at having to purchase a new one sooner than you think.
I'm afraid I can't recommend the jacket as there appear to be durability issues and I would advise those considering purchasing one to look at reviews of those who have had one 3+ years.
It's disappointing as everything else, fit, features are good and well thought through.

I wanted to replace my old Theta AR with a new Beta AR. But the sleeves are just way too long. This has never been an issue with any brand of jacket I have ever purchased. So, I returned it.
I notice the women's Beta AR has similar measurements to the men's, but with shorter sleeves. I plan to go try on a woman's jacket to see if the sleeves are manageable and the other dimensions are not problematic.

I bought this jacket today. First day it launched the spring season.
And it's a lovely jacket. Classic design beautiful colours. Tons of colours. I love it
BUT why the inconsistency within design.
I only multiple gear from your guys.
The older gears right up till earlier 2023
They have a common flaw. Non stitched hem. Where the bottom of the jacket would come apart as the jacket got old.
That wasn't really a big problem, but there is a lot of complaints.
I can see the you guys try to solve the issue. You put the new stitched hem design in the newer gear. And it's awesome.
Beta lightweight, Sabre SV. Just to name a few gears that have this design.
But WHY does the beta AR not get it. It is one of the most iconic jacket from you guys. But you guys don't feel the need to make this gear more long lasting?
there is so much talk about sustainability. If this jacket failed within the new few years. With your awesome warranty it probably will get replaced. But why let it get to that point?
please please please take this into the future design
