I bought it a year ago and used this summer in Northern Greenland. It is warm and breathable for long, exhausting hikes on glaciers and mountains, in wind and rain. It also does not take much space and fits to a small bag to be carried in or outside backpack. External material is strong and resistant to sharp rocks. I also used it for hikes in winter in Big Bear where we get snow in winter. It worked fine and provides freedom to move with an extra layer under it.

I got this jacket in the Black Magic colorway as an early Christmas present and I couldn't be more stoked! It is perfect for my needs in almost every way. I am currently fighting cancer and it seems that I am cold all the time now, but I feel I could face any PNW snowstorm in this bad boy. It's warm, light, attractive, and has so many cool features like the inner drop pockets and the fantastic down hood. The only thing that I can fault it on are the cuff materials. The cuffs are pretty rough and abrasive and starts to bother the skin on my wrists after only a few minutes. I've decided that if it is cold enough to be wearing this jacket, I'm more than likely going to be using gloves, which isn't a full solution, but a simple workaround to save my wrists from the abrasive rubbing. All-in-all, it's a great jacket and I can't wait to test it out in more extreme environments. I'm 5'11" and 175 lbs and the large fits absolutely perfectly with a little room for layering. TL;DR phenomenal jacket with one one unfortunate flaw in the wrists being made of a crunchy abrasive material. 9/10 would recommend!

Very very warm and comfortable. Under my Beta AR it's a great match. I like it more then my cerium. My one and only issue is the synthetic insulation in the cuffs which is very thick and much warmer then the down fill throughout the rest of the jacket. Also the stitching on the cuffs is a little rough but that's not a biggie. The down does like to move around a lot and you will have empty slots, feel like a cross stitch would of been a good move in certain areas but I like it a lot even with those setbacks.

This winter is the first time I've used my Thorium down jacket in the wild. Whether it has been belaying climbers on the Dorset coast or winter walks through Hampstead Heath. This down jacket has handled keeping the cold at bay in its stride. I'm actually looking forward to taking into the Scottish Highlands later in the season.
I am 6ft3" tall with a 6ft3" wingspan and the Thorium covers my torso and arms completely.
This jacket may be too warm for a mild winter hike, yet perfectly engineered for when the weather's in those low single digits.

The Thorium Hoody is solid option for someone looking for a jacket that is warmer than the Cerium or Atom line as a stand alone option. It can be used on the coldest of days under a ski shell without feeling cumbersome or too bulky. The fit for me (5'10 170lbs) in a medium is trimmer than other "regular" fits. Not tight but the bulk of the down does create a more form fitting feel in the chest and arms. Although the description states it is helmet compatible, it will not work over a large size Smith ski helmet. No way to comfortably put the hood over the helmet and have the jacket fit normally - can't zip it up/allow the jacket to lay on the shoulders. Maybe a lower volume climbing helmet would work but I imagine it would be really tight. Helmet compatibility is a big deal for me but the jacket is still really solid and fits in my quiver of being the go to when the temp really drops.

The jacket is good and warm, which I really love. I do find the fit a bit odd though. It's super tight around the hem and the neck - I guess to keep the warm in, but I find it a bit extreme. I'm a fairly standard, athletic build and wear everything else from Arc in a medium, but this comes up weirdly small in some places and fits perfect in others. Large doesn't work as is too baggy.

Amazing fit - I love the slightly longer length than the Cerium line. I have a cerium LT hoodie now and needed something for when its super cold. Love the fit of this in a medium - few issues however. The front zipper garage at the neckline is too tight - the zipper cannot get to the top of the collar, and this looks particularly off with the dark magic colorway, as the zipper stands out. The right collar top had some stitching with glue on it that was very hard and cut at my chin/lip every time the jacket was zipped up. My only other feedback would be that the down hood is too tight when not up, and pushes at the back of your head/neck...seems like a design opportunity for sure. I have another on order - hopefully the first two issues will be rectified with the new jacket?

Jacket is super comfy I am an XL and it fits perfect. The only thing I was disappointed with is the fit of the jacket when it's zipped up, the hood essentially jams into the back of your head and scrunches up almost making my head feel pushed forward. I'd like to see a bit more room in the neck/hood area on future designs.

Quality jacket. A large mens seems designed for skinny men. tight in the waist hips and arms for me. Also not as warm as I was expecting. Sizing is inconsistent between different styles of coats, so it is challenging unless you go to a store to try different coats on. A large in one jacket may fit great while a large in another is too small.

Just one thing bothers me on this jacket - I wish the waist was 1.5 inch wider and roomier overall - its too snug for athletic build 5'9". Right now it is 21" wide lying flat - it would be perfect if it was 21.5 - 22" wide flat. its difficult to have decent movement, especially when sitting down - just feels constraining like a girdle ! And I am not fat at all, just a bit stocky and 50. Going up a size doesn't work, where everything else becomes too big. Since this is not the cerium, primarily to fit as a middle layer under a shell, there is not reason to keep the midrift tailoring so snug - so relax it out an 1" overall next season please!

Bought in November to be used under a shell for skiing.
All the feathers in the mid back gravitate towards the side leaving no warmth.

Well constructed jacket but for its price quality control doesn't seem to be all there.
Lower back doesn't seem to carry that much down fill, it is always flat and down-less compared to other parts of the jacket, started to think that this is a defective jacket due to quality control.

I bought this jacket in 2019 and for the first to years I absolutely loved it. In the 3rd it started leaking down pretty good. Since then the issue has gotten progressively worse, leaking more and more down to the point where I have to sweep up the down when I exit the car. It leaks down constantly. I expected the jacket to last well over 5 years since I don't wear the jacket for anything other than to and from work. I have rugged jackets, also from Arc'teryx to do more demanding activities. The down leakage has gotten so bad that both elbows on the jacket have relatively no fill left. Very very disappointed with the durability. This jacket is by no means durable. I sold their products for over 5 years and this jacket is the one we had most issues with.

For 15-20 years I have been buying Arcteryx jackets, and I'm a Large every time. I have even had this exact jacked in a previous version in a Large. This time, the Large fits fine around my torso, but the neck is so tight that I can't do the zipper up unless I put the hood up. Even then, the neck is so tight against my face that its incredibly uncomfortable. I don't understand this fit at all. I have four other Arcteryx insulated jacked in my closet and not one of them comes even close to this weird fit. The Thorium isn't even supposed to be a fitted fit. It's listed as a regular fit. I think this is the first time I have ever returned one of your jackets!

I have the Thorium hoody version from 2020. I recently bought the same jacket but now under Arcteryx's new sizing regime. Size small has become smaller while size medium has stayed the same, so if small fit you perfectly before, now it is too small, and medium is too big. Arcteryx says the new sizing is more "inclusive", but I fail to see how. Now people who used to wear small find themselves wearing either a too tight jacket or too loose jacket. I hope Arcteryx re-evaluates and reverse the new sizing.

I had bought this jacket online and when I received it there were stitches that wasn't pressed against the jacket and pointy/hard. This made it really irritating to zip up since it would poke into my chin, and another spot where it irritated my hands when I put them in my pocket.
I had gone into the store to confirm if this was an issue with every jacket or just mine but it turned out to be just mine. Due to such I was advised to open a support ticket online. I received a shockingly unexpected response and was told that the stitching issue was due to wear and tear and they would not support me. I felt that this was unfair as I had only worn the jacket once and if that's enough to be considered wear and tear then I really don't have high expectations of this product nor does it look like Arc'teryx stands behind their products.
If I did not have these issues the jacket is otherwise a very good fit and keeps me very warm (much more than needed). I would like to say that it feels very sturdy outside of the quality issues.

My overall experience with arcteryx this time around was pretty bad. I had purchased the dark magic colour recently. Upon arrival of the product after the first wear I noticed near the front right pocket had next to no down fill. I called the Vaughan location and they said they would take a look at it. Upon arrival at the store, the workers all assumed I had worn my jacket for a while, which I had to explain to them that it was newly purchased multiple times until I showed them the receipt. Then they inspected the jacket and agreed there was a quality control issue and was possible to put more down in. They submitted the work order in and that's when customers support, declined the possibility the jacket was defective until I showed the more photos. Then they said they needed to do an in person inspection, directing me to Eaton Centre. When I arrived they said they disassembled their repair shop. Then they told me to go to the one on Bloor. When I got there it was closed. I had to drive down from Markham to reach this location on another day just for them to say, we are going to wash your jacket, if we agree it's defective after wash you can't keep it and can only get store credit. So I had to make a decision there on whether to keep a defective jacket or return it or wash it, to only get store credit. The whole situation was so frustrating. From tryiny to prove I recently purchased the jacket like I was a criminal to them telling me the wrong information on location only to tell me their limited options. They refused to give me a discount on the defective jacket. The moment I returned the dark magic jacket, 1 went back in stock online. So there's a defective product floating around from person to person. I was a hardcore arc'teryx fan. But this brand is dead to me now. Sent me on a wild goose chase and wasted hours of my life stuck in traffic and dealing with a brand that doesn't even know itself.

For something so expensive, it rips so easily. I have four holes in the jacket, and I've barely worn it 10 times. I've never regretted a purchase so much. It didn't even last a whole season..
