I am a big fan of Brooks Ghost running shoes, so I was excited to try the Cascadia 17 trail runners, which also come in a wide width. These Brooks shoes have a roomy toe box, highly breathable upper, and big, grippy lugs on the sole. They are definitely stiffer than regular runners, and perhaps that's why they don't grip my heel as well as the Brooks Ghosts I have in the same size. I like them, but in the end I decided to return them and instead go with Saucony Peregrine 13s. They are well designed but it's a fit thing. Try them yourself. Fit is everything. If you want something cushier, then look at the Hoka Challenger. If you want something more technical, then look at the Hoka Speedgoat and Saucony Peregrine. If you want something more minimalist with zero drop, then look at the Altra Lone Peak.
I'd also recommend:

These are the best all around trail shoes in my opinion; I use them for day hiking. They provide a good mix of cushion, grip, stability, and comfort. I have a high instep and wide foot, and these are very accommodating. The only negative I have are the color selection for the wide version; I’d prefer the same color throughout the shoe.

A little snug on width but I kept them, I am trusting they will break in after a bit.

The shoes are Brooks, quality throughout! I usually get 12's, a little tight. You might want to go up a full size. I'll be sending back, and continue my search for another pair. Yes, on Zappos!

These are one half size larger just due to ability to free up toe space while hiking. Certainly glad because they do run a little tight on person's normal shoe size. Recommend half size bigger. These shoes are good looking in the color ordered and have went on walks among flat surfaces- along with a good heel. Recommend

Have owned and worn many different styles of Brooks shoes and always come back to Cascadia. Very sturdy and comfortable all around city and off pavement jogger.

Feels lights, a little wider in the toe area than some which adds to longer periods of comfort.

These are great! They have a really nice look to them. I am hoping they will be a a bit more rugged than the typical running shoes as my son always rips through them. The base seems a tad stiffer and it's thicker with a good texture for gripping surfaces (appropriate for off-road running). We'll see how they last with an active teenager!

My running shoes! The only brand/model I wear. I get the GTX for winter running.

May be because these shoes are for exercise, I always order 1/2 size up. Also, my big toe hits the top in my normal size.

I have Achilles tendinitis and these did not work for me because the top part of the shoe comes inward slightly at exactly the height of my achilles pushing against a sensitive and painful spot. I have some very comfortable brooks glycerin in the same size which have a slightly taller back which doesn’t come inward as much, and had hoped these would be similar. The rest of the fit was comfortable, but these didn’t work for me because of that difference.

I used to wear Cascadias but then they started making them too narrow. These fit well and have plenty of room in toebox. I wanted to try Brooks again because I have worn Hokas exclusively for the past six years and feel Hokas don't have enough rubber on bottom of shoes, and what little they do have wears out quickly. Nice to have full rubber sole on bottom of Cascadias.

I initially ordered a size 13 which seemed a bit too long. I then ordered a size 12.5 which was tighter in the upper part of the foot but the length was the same. I measured the outside length of all shoes and found that they were exactly the same length. Poor QA. Returned the 12.5.
