I got the brown color- great hiker, around town, occasional trail runner, or even wear with khakis in a pinch! Very similar to ultra 3d in the mid porch, toe is slightly narrower. I always do 1/2 size larger in Solomons.

I use this as a work shoe, I am in the fireplace and chimney business. Lots of ladders and scaffolding. Good support and grip!

These have been a very good pair of shoes here in the desert where I live and hike. The soles have held up fairly well but after six months, are finally starting to show wear. They're not as gripping on slick surfaces now. The uppers are in very good condition which is surprising considering the terrain I hike in. Sand and rock which normally destroys shoes. Best pair of desert hikers I've worn so far.

Easy experience buying online, the size guide is really helpful to get a proper fit.

This is my third pair of X Ultra Pioneer Shoes... They last me about six months before the sole starts to break down. Which I personally find above average in this market of shoes for my size and frequency of wear.

I Purchased the X Ultra Pioneer hoping to get comfort for my feet.In 2017 I shattered Both Heels in a work accident ,It has been difficult to find comfortable Relief. I honest purchased these so i could put my custom molded footboards in this shoe but these are not wide enough to accept! I took a chance and wore them as they come....My God, Relief Finally! Thank You Solomon, This was an impossible leap of faith but you Now have a Lifer!

Not quite the same same feel but just as comfortable on more level terrain as my hiking xt's.

I needed an everyday shoe that could also handle outdoor work without getting ruined. I love my Salomon hiking boots so I tried this shoe out. My only complaint is the laces can be squeaky when rubbing against the fabric of the shoe. Otherwise they feel great, flex with my feet and have a great tread for all terrains I come across normally.

This is his second pair of the Ultras. He is a wildland fire fighter in the state of Texas, on deployments he packs his fire boots and his Ultras. When not on the fireline, they spend alot of time mapping out on rough terrain, all day, in the heat. Nothing makes life easier for him than a comfortable pair of shoes. They've held up so well despite the rough job, they look new over time, and they wash really well. He waited a long time for these to come back in stock, got them just in time for his fire season!

Very lightweight and cool for hiking in hot weather, also has excellent grip on grass or dirt trail

Climbed Whiteface mountain in New York with these last week, straight out of the box on an 8 hour hike on mixed terrain. No blisters or hot spots! Great grip on tree roots, wet rocks, dry rooks, dirt and mud. Fairly stiff and aggressive treads. Much better than my old shoes which were slippery and gave me heel blisters. Got one size larger just in case I need: thicker socks, foot swell, extra space for steep downhill descents (don't want to get turf toe on the way down). Seemed a bit hot on a cool 13'C day (55'F). We'll see how well they breathe in the summer.

Always get these for my husband! He loves them..and wears them a lot! Cool for summer with good traction..and you can wear them for casual get together too!

Ive found Salomon x cress to give me instant relief from stubborn planters fasciitis. I couldnt cress in 10.5 anywhere them so bought the Pioneers which are also working well.

I have purchased several hikers like the Pioneer, low and over the ankle boot over many years. Have had the Pioneer about one month. Shoe construction, Contrgrip sole, fit and materials seem to the usual high grade and support I have come to expect from Salomon. One issue with the Pioneer is the short length of the shoe tongue causing the laces to occasionally slip under it while in movement. Other item is the quick lace system is no longer a feature.

I purchased a pair of X ULTRA POINEER hiking shoes. I expected that they would come with quick laces, but they arrived with regular tie laces. The shoes fit great, but I wish they had the desired laces.

First of all, I think they look very good and they are also very comfortable, from day one. Having said that, I think on summer days they tend to make my feet a bit hot, comparable to regular running shoes. But of course they are more rugged, so that is expected. I also used them on a rainy day and and had my sockets wet, so don't expect them to be waterproof either. I haven't used on trails, so I don't have an opinion about that honestly. All in all I am satisfied with the product!
