Good quality

I've bought these shorts for the past few years and have always liked them. The only reason I gave them four stars this time is that for the last several years the left front pocket has a zipper on the side of it rather than the top. That's the pocket I put my wallet in, and it's annoying to have to zip and unzip the pocket as often as I do. It looks more like a style change than a change for practicality. Wallets fall downward, not sideways. I almost never used the pocket's zipper before, but now it's unfortunately become a part of my muscle memory to use it. Please put the zipper back on top.

They are a good short. Lightweight. Fast dry. I normally wear a 34 but find I need a 36 with these. I also find the zipper to be very short. Hard to pee.

I have an older version of these shorts but the design is still pretty much the same. The workmanship and design is mostly great. The material is light and good for lots of activities. Where it falls apart is the belt loops. There needs to be more of them. If you put anything in your front pockets, they sag because there isnt a belt loop holding them up above the pocket. Its very irritating when just putting a phone in my pocket makes the waistline fall an inch or so below the belt.

These shorts came with at least 3 rips. I have worn other shorts from Columbia for years without this issue,

No Velcro rear pockets, vertical zipper pocket on side? Ive been wearing the shorts for a long time, 1st they quit making navy and metal color, now redesign them to make them terrible. Now Ive got to find a new brand of shortswhy Columbia why?! They were perfect.

Like how light they are. Great fit, like the built in belt.

I have purchased these shorts for years and was very happy with them. Unfortunately, theyve changed the design of the pockets and now these shorts are off my short list. Left side zipper pocket should be horizontal. Other pockets need to be deeper. Why redesign something that was great?! I have seen other buyers voice similar complaints but have yet to see a coherent response.

Shorts run 4 sizes too small.. I wear a 36 in every brand I've ever bought... not here.. bought 36 couldn't get them on the waist...bought 38 got them snapped but the button is screaming... now waiting on 40... just time consuming

Shorts fit great. (34w) Really like the light weight material for when we travel in hot and humid climates. 8" inseam is just right. But the pockets are horrible for travel. I like to keep my wallet and phone in my front pockets, but they are so shallow my phone is sticking out. For wearing around town, they aren't much better. My wallet fell out of the right back pocket at a restaurant. Please Columbia.... How much would it take to make the front pockets a few inches deeper?

My past purchase, long ago, was the Utility Convertible Pants and generally used them as shorts and I wanted some new ones but only as shorts. The new Silver Ridge cargo shorts have made a few improvements such as the no-twisting wider belt, although harder to buckle. My only complaint is the hand pockets (where I like to keep my cell phone) are not deep enough and the phone could easily fall out when sitting down.

Luv 'em, hate 'em. I bought a pair of the Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts about a month ago. I love the fit, the light-weight (but rugged material), the adjustable belt. But I hate the shallow side pockets. WHY? Quality Control missed the boat. I would like buy several more pairs of these...as soon as the depth of the side pockets is fixed. Please let me know when that happens.

These are my 4th and 5th pair of these shorts. Excellent quality and comfortable. Love that they include belt. The only quibble is the side pockets are not very deep. Side pockets allow items to fall out, like phone, wallet, and keys.

Do not like vertical zipper on left leg. Prefer horizontal zipper to accommodate iPhone

Disappointed. Ordered one pair of shorts. Stitching in front was poorly done. Loose threads and terrible looking threads. Sent back and got another pair. Same issue, but slightly better than first pair. Not worth continuing to return and I need the shorts. They do fit well.

Bought these for hiking and everyday use. Like the shorts, very comfortable but I do have one gripe...the shorts always come loose at the waist button when the need comes to unzip. Either the button hole is too large, or the button is too small. But whatever the reason, its always comes undone at the most inopportune time. So much so that I finally donated my two pairs to the local Goodwill. Can't recommend them.Mike

So for some reason the olive green shorts that I ordered don't fit quite as nicely as the other colors and the material is a little more itchy feeling than what I'm used to. Especially when going commando. Not sure why otherwise I would have given it a five-star.

i have been wearing this shorts in 36x10 for many years now. i buy one or two a year and still have my oldest pair. they are light and dry very fast so i can use them when fishing or boating and they work great as a bathing suit. this year i ordered two more pair and they are tight in the waist. first thought was i got fat but nope. my old ones fit just as i remember and they are not all the same age so its this years batch that is 1/4" tight. its a bummer.

Waist runs large

Wore these on alternate days on two weeks traveling in the Med. The threading and seams started to split after two rotations. Comfortable, yes, practical, yes...but began to fall apart almost immediately.

I have several pairs of these shorts from previous years, but this year's model is a fail. The side pockets are to shallow. I can keep my car keys in them but not a pen. I'm really disappointed, but I am returning them because I know I'll be annoyed every time I wear them.
