Now my favorite transitional season sweater. I'm glad I sized up--the looser fit and weight make it a great camp sweater. I wish it was machine-washable, but you can't have everything.

I generally wear a size 10 or a Medium, but in sweaters, I like more room. I ordered the Large and am glad I did. It is just barely slightly too big across the shoulders, and the sleeves are too long, but I rolled up the cuffs once more, and am happy with the fit. I wear a cotton turtleneck underneath and feel no itch from the wool. On me, the Large hits more as a tunic might than a sweater - just below my butt and covers all of the front zipper of my jeans. A Medium would probably have hit me higher and been less tunic-y looking, but I didn't want to risk any sense of too-snug.
My only complaint is that the "elbow" patch barely covers my elbow. It goes from my wrist to just the point of my elbow, but not past it. This is probably a function of the longer sleeves for the Large - maybe the patches on a Medium would be better? In any case, it's become my favorite cold weather sweater. I also really like that it's not too bulky under my jackets. All in all, I really like the sweater.

I have worn this sweater around the house with a capilene under garment. The sweater keeps me very warm. Being non-bulky, the sweater fits easily under a winter jacket. I have had it only for a short time, so do not know how it will stand up to pilling, or my cats' claws.

I loved LLBean washable wool Sweaters in the past. This sweater is boxier than I thought it would be and a more solid shape/not flexible. It is not a soft wool like the other washable wools I have purchased in the past. And it is a bit scratchy. However, it seems very warm and of good quality, so I am keeping it to see if it softens over thew few couple of washes.

Used size charts, reviews & previous purchases. Got the medium in Deep Wine (nice color) but the sweater is tight; I like it - not itchy (though I will wear with a T neck or shirt underneath. Flat knit, not bulky, arms too long as I am 5'2". Longer length is nice. Returning for a large, just don't like tight sweaters (I got the Irish knit in a medium, fits OK, looser knit).

I ordered this (grey) because I liked the basic cut style. It fits a little boxy on me, without much shaping ( which is what I expected from a commando style sweater). Those expecting a feminine silhouette may be disappointed. I got a lot compliments on this sweater. I usually take a size large....I am going to order another in black but order a size smaller (medium) as I felt the arms and shoulders were too big. Consider ordering a size down from your usual size.

I bought this in black, and the little patches on the shoulders are 'nearly' black too. They aren't as gray as pictured, so I was a little disappointed about that because I liked the contrast shown in the product photos. This is a medium thickness sweater - only slightly bulky. Length is good, and I don't like short sweaters. A little itchy around the neck but not enough so to be a deal breaker.

It's a lovely sweater beautifully made. I can wear some merino wools but sadly this one was too itchy for me. I returned for credit.

Gave as a birthday gift to my wife( with other items, I'm not that cheap)
Not as thick or as warm as the men's Merino guide sweater.
Still, Very stylish. Looks super on her. Flattering on her figure. She is a large.

The sweater was too heavy and I like my sweaters to be a little more fitted. Beautiful color and I liked the design of the patches on it.

I returned this sweater for several reasons. Very heavy, didn't care for the patches. They looked like an afterthought

This appeared to be a well-made sweater, but I didn't care for its boxy fit, wide ribbing, lack of shaping (differential side knit) at the waist, such as in the Waterfowl Sweater, and the stiff and tight shooting patches that made a loud crinkling sound. Plus it was too short.

This sweater looked too manly on me. It is boxy. Made well but just not for me

This is indeed the nice-looking sweater LLB describes, but given that I doubt that anyone would ever wear it by itself, it's imperative to have a light layer underneath. (I tried it with a lightweight cotton layer.) Considering that I usually have to order XS, I was surprised that the S was much too snug. Sleeves are long enough, but too tight across bust and back (would be embarrassed to be seen in this). Re-ordered in M.

This is a thick, bulky sweater for cold weather. It seems to be well made and is very warm and the color is ok. It is very unflattering on me. Looks like a man's sweater with the elbow patches and high neck and no shape. I clicked yes that I would recommend it to a friend because maybe it would look good on someone else and it's fine for a functional sweater. It's too rough and itchy to wear over bare skin. This would be good to put on over what you're wearing to go out in the cold and take off when you get back. I wanted a sweater that I didn't have to wear anything under and that I could wear all day in my chilly but not freezing house. I've seen other merino wool sweaters that are smooth and soft and not itchy so I hoped this would be like that.

Wish this sweater was not scratchy; couldn't wear it. However, the fit was perfect!

I returned this item. I liked the design, but the material is itchy and I didn't like the way it hung on me.

I did not know it was partly wool and it was itchy. But I loved the sweater and was hoping to keep it but knew it would not be comfortable

I bought this about 2 years ago and I don't wear it because of the lack of quality of the wool. Everything sticks to the wool and it's not a fine quality. It's fuzzy and looks cheap.I bought the black.

This sizing and shape it really off. I'm 5'4", 110lb. I ordered an XS. It was still super big in the upper torso, shoulders and armpits, and almost too short and cropped. The wool was not as soft as I'd like, and was boxy with no drape. Also, shipping costs add up with returns. My loss.

This sweater is a heavy wool. I ordered the green which is an okay color of green and it is a stiff sweater because of the type of wool. Runs true to size and is good quality but I would not order this one again.

Patches are black, not gray. Hand wash only (my fault for not realizing that until it was too late). Had potential to be awesome. Bummed.
