Customer Reviews Smartwool Classic All-Season Merino Base Layer Bottom

These were gifted to me by Smartwool and I wanted to make sure I got a long season of use before leaving a review. This is my second pair of baselayer bottoms from Smartwool and honestly they aren't my favorite pair. They stretched out pretty quickly and didn't go back to the original size. I'd say they relaxed/stretched about 1/3-1/2 a size. They ran a little roomier than I originally had hoped too. So with the stretch and the running a little big they got to be too big by day 2. I can shrink them in the dryer but they go back to being too big after a night/day of use. I primarily used these for camping and backpacking to sleep in since I got them for the summer. They kept me warm down to the low 40s/upper 30s inside my sleeping bag. As for their comfort, they aren't the softest base layers I own but they also aren't uncomfortable. The fabric is thin though and you can see skin through it. Don't expect a solid legging. I'm in between yes and no on recommending them. They do their job well but they do stretch out. If you keep the stretching in mind, they're a solid choice (size down). But if you're comparing these to another bottom from a different Smartwool line, I'd probably go with the others.

wore it for the first time today under pants. well i took it off it had multiple holes in it. it fit big but i have now other pairs that i haven't worn and this will be rags after one or two more wearings. i had them on for two hours while i was waiting /sitting mostly for my car to be repaired. so very light use and under pantsw

I've used this once, I was replacing old ones that I got years ago. They have a different feel to them, but that may be because they are new! Based on the ones I just bought, I like them, and Smartwool bottoms I replaced worked well for years.

The extra small fits fine except the waist is too tight. I'm hoping it will stretch out. The material is wonderful, silky, not at all scratchy. And they do keep me warm.

Light weight and smooth, making it easy to wear underneath ski pants or regular pants. These bottoms provides a medium level of warmth compared to the thermal version. They have nylon core, which makes them a bit less stretchy than the 100% merino bottoms, but they also hold shape better. Personally, I prefer the feel of 100% merino over the synthetic feel of these, but I got these at a discount.

base layer for skiing

I use this base layer when hiking and cross-country skiing. This pair is to replace a pair that I bought at least 12 years ago. I am happy to say that the fabric, fit and finish on the new pair is even better than the old pair. I am very happy with this purchase. The size chart was right on.

love the lightweight warmth efficiency

Glad I went with a small vs xsmall. I wear a size 1 in pants but questioned whether the xsmall was really size 0-2. They feel good and fit well except in the crotch( extra space/baginess).

Seems a bit small for a medium, smaller than your other products that are the same size. Other than that, great lightweight base layer!

good quality to thin. I will get more use out of thermal 250 weight for ski mountain.

Typically I have sensitive skin and am unable to where wool I have worn my Merino Base Layer Bottom twice and been very comfortable and warm. Thank you. I love my new bottom..

These fit so well and keep me warm. I'm outside a good part of every day and these worked very hard keeping me warm.

I use this as a base layer when I'm teaching PE outside in cold, windy weather

I wear these under jeans when walking my dog in below freezing temperatures. They are very comfortable and really help me stay warm!

Pants are wonderful

Got the black colored one. Not sure if it's was sown inside out. Wearing it the"correct" way is super itchy. But inside out is fine..... Maybe got a faulty one. Will try to exchange

Not crazy about the fit on these. Waist falls too low. Cuts me off in the butt. Not comfortable. Wanted to love them as I need a good merino baselayer pant.
