These things are dope! Adjustable waist band, great simple sleak pockets, and pretty durable, especially given the abuse I just gave them in Kalymnos kneebarring my face off lololo. These shorts are as good as it gets!

Great for hiking due to the lightweight and the stretch is not movement restrictive. Fits right under harnesses for climbing as well and not get caught on any loops. Great for walking around from town, straight into an adventure of hiking or climbing. Fabric keeps the skin dry and cool, and repels a bit of rain if it gets a little wet. This is the next pair of shorts I transitioned to after years of wearing the legendary Palisade series. Definitely a very versatile pair of shorts!

I've worn these shorts on short hikes, long shifts and even on just a casual day out. These shorts are great for all around use, and feel comfortable enough to wear for hours on end.

I love the Gamma series and these shorts are probably my favorite out of the list, I have multiple colors of this style. I've mostly worn these in my hiking adventures, wore them during kayaking and zip lining in Hawaii. Even though they are not the QuickDry style, they do definitely dry quicker than other shorts I've worn in the past for wet adventures. I normally wear size 32 waist and most of the time is a perfect fit, this was a little tight even loosening the strap as much as possible. Though that feature is my favorite on the shorts. Other than that, they're very comfortable and has stretch to it when hiking with intensity. Breathable and sweat wicking, had no discomforts throughout my long adventures. If you are in between sizes, I'd recommend going with the larger size and using the strap to tighten the waist because the strap may be too short to loosen it if too tight around the waist on a smaller size.

Weather has been hot and humid and these shorts are perfect for that. Love the zippered pockets and the light weight.

Comfort is key, and the Avian Shorts excel in this department. The fabric is soft to the touch, providing a luxurious feel against the skin. The shorts are thoughtfully designed with a relaxed fit, allowing for unrestricted movement and maximum comfort throughout the day. Whether you're hiking, cycling, or lounging, these shorts will keep you feeling at ease.

These shorts are awesome. light, quick dry and flat pockets. If super light fabric is your primary goal these shorts really fit that bill. If you are ok with a very slightly heavier short check out the Gamma 9".

I'll start with what I like about these shorts (which is a lot). These are super comfortable, lightweight, and are great for a variety of different activities. I've worn these countless times out climbing and have really enjoyed how they feel under a harness and with climbing movement in general. They stretch and breathe pretty nicely. I've also worn these while guiding whitewater and really enjoyed them as they dry quick and are comfortable. My final application of these shorts - mountain biking. I've worn these a bunch for mountain bike rides and really liked them for many of the reasons I listed above - stretchy, comfortable, breathable, zip pockets. I haven't actually hiked at all in them but they would certainly be the first pair of shorts I grab next time I backpack or hike. While I love these shorts and will no doubt continue to wear them, one thing to improve with these is the button closure. It is very hard to snap it closed and when you think you have it close, it just pops open kind of randomly. If you tighten the belt at all, it also seems to pop the button open. I'm certainly no designer, but it would seem like a simple fix for these would be doing one of the hook and loop closures instead. If the design team makes that fix, these shorts will be pretty perfect.

They look great and the feel great, but the absence of belt loops is a problem for me. I expect/need gear to be pretty tough. The snap is just too flimsy to do all the work required of it. Wish I'd noticed. But, I can wear them around the house.

Everything about the shorts works for me except for the pockets. The cargo pocket on the right leg is too small for a cell phone. Also, there aren't any rear pockets.

Have had a couple of pairs of these over the years as they fit well and are generally comfortable, however I recently have a issue with one pair where after they have been washed (no hotter than 30degrees and drip dry) the inner liner around the lower pockets has shrunk causing the outer layer to wrinkle and not lay flat. Disappointing as my other older pair have no issues and they have been my go to shorts, and they are not the cheapest shorts on the market..

These shorts have a great fit and a nice wide cargo pocket. Downfall is the snap. Walking at a good clip with a phone in your pocket or moving while sitting down is enough to pop it open. And there are no belt loops to add a belt to compensate. For the price I'd expect a more practical design.

I got these shorts as a replacement for a warranty claim for last year's Gamma Quick Dry Short, which I loved but unfortunately are not available anymore, so I had to go with these the closest alternative. It's a nice pair of quality shorts, the fit is a bit looser and longer than the Gamma Quick Dry (which I actually preferred), the material is good, but there are a few design flaws that break the deal in my opinion. Above all is the clip button which, as stated by other reviewers as well, unclips very easily. It unclipped when I was doing pull ups, when sitting down, even when I was just putting my hands into the pockets while talking to someone (imagine having your pants suddenly unclip in the middle of a conversation with a stranger and acting casual while trying to reclip them! lol). In general, if you grab the shorts at waist-height and pull, the button just unclips. And sometimes I also found it difficult to clip it back, it takes a few tries. I think that's because of the waist-belt cord that can be pulled on the side to adjust the waist, and that creates some folds in the fabric that get in the way of the button-clip so that it doesn't close properly. I don't think they really thought and tested this product through. I don't have much of a gut, but I can image this issue can be even worst for people who do. Also I would have liked a few more pockets. A second side pocket would have been nice, as well as a back pocket (just like the Gamma Quick Dry Short). It's a shame because this could have been a great product, but at this price tag there's no room for compromises in my opinion.

Disappointing that these don't hold their shape, similar to other reviews. Nice length and have potential to be nice shorts. Unfortunately after 1 wash the material on the front bunches up behind the pockets ruining the shape of the shorts.

This was a real disappointment. I have been a customer for the last 25-30 years and must have spent in the range 5-10K USD. I have allways been a fan, but not this time. The button unclicks easily when opening the zipper (ok, I can loose a few pounds) and it is difficult to reclick. Furthermore the fabric has an ugly synthetic feel.
