This is my first Arcteryx Goretex jacket. It is a great jacket overall especially for waterproof and windoroof. The only drawback for this jacket is the hood. It is more designed for people to wear helmet inside, otherwise you need to adjust which could be annoying.

Pretty much everyone has had a similar experience with the jacket. Waterproof, durable, yadda, yadda, yadda. Just one thing, the sleeves are like slender man long. Most places fit alright, ample spaces for layers under, but I am short and can't really downsize from XS, gonna look like I have super long arms. Maybe just the cutting of this year.

This jacket was my first Arc'teryx product and I was so excited when it arrived. The jacket itself feels amazing and the materials are excellent. The only problem is that the sleeves are just crazy long. Like 3 inches too long. I ordered a small and the jacket fits perfectly everywhere else so I wouldn't bother sizing down, especially since I'll usually be wearing this on top of other layers. But I just don't understand why the sleeves are so long. You can tighten the cuffs which is nice but I think I actually have slightly long arms for my size and the sleeves come down to the very tips of my fingers before any adjustments. Just kind of bummed that i have so much extra material bunched up on my arms Overall, almost perfect jacket, the sleeves are truly the only flaw for me.

I have had this jacket for a while, and it has done everything expected and advertised. However, I wish the jacket was a bit longer

Just purchased a second one after destroying the last one. My previous Beta AR lasted 10 years. I wasn't very easy on it. Surprised it asked that long. Was happy to buy a new one knowing it would serve me well for the next decade.

I bought this jacket for both backcountry skiing and mtn climbing in the NW where it can get pretty wet. So far i've mostly used it for bc skiing and it has performed very well by keeping me completely dry when snowing hard and of course blocking the wind. It seems to breathe pretty well also. I've also had it out on some mtn climbing trips where it was snowing hard and it performed well. The reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is i wish it came in a shorter sleeve length. I ordered a small which is the correct size for me but the sleeves are just too long for a person of my height.

Practical and versatile coat and seems robust. Has enough features to be worn in extreme weather but is smart enough to be worn casually too. 4/5 as the hood doesn't pack away, but other than that a fantastic hard wearing jacket.

1st Arcteryx jacket. Very durable. Big fan of the side pockets which most of my shell jackets have. Not a big fan of the hood. I like the fast the goretex logo is the same color of the jacket.

I've had this for over a year now and it's been great, I've used it around the city, for hiking, backpacking, and skiing. It's kept me dry the whole time! And the pit zips are great for venting.
My main issue is that I personally don't like the drophood, the collar doesn't nest well with other hoods and I prefer the bigger stormhood that covers more of your face. It's also really big - this means it can look a bit weird if you're using it with just a tshirt underneath. So unless you know you're layering a lot you should size down.
Overall an excellent do it all jacket!

I had a Beta AR in 2010. Served me well for a solid decade. I have lived in Nunavut and wore this as part of a layered setup. When a cold blizzard is blasting and you need to keep going, this is what you want to wear... or maybe the SV version but I was walking to the grocery not crossing antarctica.
In 10 years, the goretex did not delaminate, but the bottom fold holding the bottom cord came unglued. I contacted the customer support expecting to be told it was out of warranty and that they couldn't do anything. But to the contrary, they were standing behind their product.
I was really happy with the solution they proposed and I ended up ordering another of the same jacket but this year. The construction quality is outstanding. The fabric feels even more rugged than my old one.
If you read stories about delamination, or glue coming off, know 2 things: it usually happens after more than a few years, and arc'teryx does stand behind their product.
Can you think of many other pieces of clothing that lasted you a decade?

This sturdy Gore-Tex shell is my go-to outer-layer when I need the most weather protection. For wet days, it keeps me dry, and when it's bone-chilling cold and windy, it's a great barrier between my insulation and the harsh world outside. Zippers are in the right places, hood fits over a helmet, cuffs are easy to manipulate with gloves, and no superfluous peices.

I wear this jacket for hiking and skiing. Overall it's a great waterproof jacket unless you caring about plastic sound when you move your arm. 4 stars because I got some white stain on my black jacket. Not sure why it's can't be wiped with a wet cloth.

So, I purchased my Beta AR a month ago. it got its first use on a raining morning on the trail. performance was excellent with no water penetration in moderate to heavy rain for about 4 hours. My one gripe is that the jacket got dirt marks along some creases where my pack's wait strap was cinched down. I washed it immediately after getting home (per the instructions with the Nu Care detergent), and these dirt marks didnt come out. I did get the Glade color, so I understand that dirt will be easier to see. Still, I'm disappointed that my first noderate use already has these lifetime stains.

Just bought this jacket and used in on a hiking trip near jasper BC. It rained for 3 days straight and this jacket kept me fairly dry, which considering the conditions, is awesome. My only complaint was that the hood felt a bit uncomfortable, I just couldn't quite since the straps in a fashion that I was happy with

I had to move up to one size larger than normal to accommodate the layers that I use during the winter months. The multiple layers made it tight in the shoulder and armpit area. I'd rather take off layers than feel cold. I also use it in the spring and fall for sailing and boating, since the seams are welded and the zippers are waterproof. I have the version made in Canada - I understand they are now made in China.

Bought early December. After 6 days, already small tear I too of front pocket. While NYC store fixed for free, this material is not durable enough for backcountry skiing. Had last AR jacket for 10 years. Disappointed so far.

This seemed up to par overall with ARC'TERYX shells, quality wise. But, I had to return since the arms were extremely long. 5'11" standard ape index and the sleeves were at my fingertips in size L. The neck also seemed kind of stiff and may be a comfort issue with climbing. Also dinging a star since I emailed CS and never heard back, and for the price, the inventory should def have more items in stock.

I bought this in Late 2019 as my first Arc shell jacket. First gore-tex product I've owned. It truly works, rain, snow, freezing rain, etc. Mostly hiking, but also activities like snowboarding, skiing, ice skating, cycling, etc. I live in Toronto so the climate is variable and ranges from 30+C to -20C plus windchill. I'll never forget about that day of freezing rain, and a layer of ice formed on my jacket that I could simply slide off like eggs in a teflon pan. I also travel to the rockies and I primarily used this jacket in the rain in my motorcycle, and it kept me really dry.
Until it didn't.
I maintain the jacket pretty regularly by washing and drying every so often. I spray DWR once a season, etc.
At some point I started realizing that the coat wasn't keeping me dry anymore. By that point I noticed that the entire inner jacket membrane from my sleeves to my back had completely separated. I'm pretty sure my jacket was a dud. I issued a request for warranty, and they gave me a voucher for the value of the jacket during the time that I bought it. Great. Customer service rocks. And it opened up a whole can of worms for me.
After experiencing the Beta AR as my everything jacket, I've come out with the mindset that if you're doing a wide range of activities like I have, you should not buy this jacket (contrary to what Arc'teryx and forums suggests). I hope this provides insight on whoever is deciding on getting their first "all around" jacket from Arc'Teryx that it is simply not great at everything (and to be fair that's kinda the point of this jacket by Arc'Teryx). It's a compromise for basically every activity you may end up doing. When it's warmer outside, you may sweat more than the rain pours, because the jacket is not that breathable. That will likely lead to further damage. And in the winter, I long for something more robust with more snow appropriate features, as snow can get into your jacket from underneath (and into your pants!)
That's why I will buy 2 (and maybe you should too, if you can):
- The Beta LT (or Beta) for hiking, city, motorcycling, cycling, short periods of climbing, etc. I hope that this gives a bit more breathability so I'm not sweating up a storm in a storm on the highway on my motorcycle.
- Rush/Sabre Jacket for snow sports, skiing, snowboarding, backcountry, snow shoeing etc.
God forbid I end up picking up an ice climbing hobby. Then I'll really be hurting.

I want to buy a men's Beta AR jacket but the colour selection right now is awful. Phenom, daze (ugly yellow) and bitters colours are awful looking. Please bring back Vitality and Fluidity blue and the bright yellow from last season. I'll keep checking the website until better colours arise!

Have had this jacket for about 6 years. Liked the model, used it weekly, both in town and regular trekkings.
Took care of the jacket as recommended by you and your instructions, It`s important to me to have a product that really works, function in bad weather. After 4-5 years, it leaked over shoulders and back, and around my sleeves, really bad. Most seams fell apart during the same time. To bad durability for this price. Not sure that gore-tex is a reliable product over time.

I bought this jacket, expecting I could fit my phone into the inside pocket. But guess what: THE POCKET IS TOO SMALL TO HOLD A PHONE. Unbelievable. The only thing people would likely put into an inside pocket is a phone and they make the pocket too small. Seriously guys? Very disappointed.

I bought this in March '21 and have used it pretty extensively in a variety of contexts, both as an everyday shell and an essential piece of rain gear when in the wilderness. I'd like to say it has performed above and beyond my expectations but it has been rather spotty performance-wise due to the rather short half-life of the DWR treatment it arrived with. However, when I've recently reapplied DWR to it, it is fantastic.

I bought the updated Beta AR last fall for backcountry skiing and ended up selling it this fall. The first time I wore it skiing I had to go between two pine trees whose branches brushed either arm. I ended up with substantial scratches on both arms. I thought this was updated with "Most Rugged" material? I am also not a fan of the drop hood at all. If you have any hooded layers underneath the hoods bunch up around your neck and are very uncomfortable. It is also not as protective as a storm good. Plus, when worn casually the collar does not look good at all folded down. The cut of the Large size has too narrow shoulders and too expansive of a midsection so when worn with a thicker midlayer your silhouette is very round. All that being said it is a very well built piece which strikes many good compromises to be the only shell you need.

I bought this jacket a year ago for a long stomp around Europe (I intended to get the Zeta AR but came out the store with this instead)
I was out for a whole winter in this, one week in the worst rainfall I've ever been caught in and I was comfortable, if not pleased, to be out hiking in that. Also came back without a scratch or a stain despite the rough treatment it was given. So when it really counts, this jacket aces it!
But on the day-to-day or to take with you just-in-case it's a nuisance. The hood is just irritating, the fabric is noisy and the fit is awful if you aren't properly layered. I ended up buying another 3L in a similar style to the Zeta which is my go-to while this has stayed in a wardrobe undisturbed for several months until conditions made it worth breaking out again recently.
The jacket is undoubtably a worthwhile investment for serious outdoor types with frequent cause to be layering up, wearing helmets and getting the use out of the jacket it is marketed for. If, like me, you are mainly out and about in mild but wet conditions and not climbing on anything more challenging than the back of a horse, I'd say Arc'teryx have better products for you to splurge on.
The three stars reflect the cast-iron five stars it deserves for the four months of the year I've got out of it.

This coat fits me well, but where I live is very cold in winter, this coat is not thick enough.
And the Arc Teryx is Expensive, extremly expensive.
As far as I konw, the clothes industry has great profit.Arc Teryx looks like a Luxurary Showing Off,but not a useful outdoor wear.
