I like the combination of moderate amount of water-resistant and wind-resistant nature without being a stiff looking jacket, but also not too serious-looking. It is warm enough for New England fall weather. I consider this a slim fit, so layering is not really an option

After getting my Gamma MX Hoody I tested the jacket hiking three picks over 4000 meter (Monte Rosa area) in one day. The jacket is comfortable and technically well fitting to alpinism activity

I purchase this jacket a few weeks ago and I have not really put it to the test just yet as its pretty warm up here in the North East USA. The fit how ever is spot for my 5' 10" 145-150lbs body and my waist size is 32".

This is not a jacket I use when spending time in the backcountry. While it love it for its breathability, water resistance and wind resistance, it's simply too heavy and bulky to throw into my pack when I'm not wearing it. A lighter weight soft shell is much more versatilebetter when moving faststill wind resistant, more breathable and when I need a higher level of water resistance, I put on my lightweight hard shell. This jacket does, however, excel as an everyday jacket, for all the reasons described above. Plus, it looks awesome! It is the perfect combination between outdoorsy and dressy. I can wear this to the office on a sketchy days and then on drizzly cold days hikes on the weekend. I'm 6'-2" tall, weight 190 lbs and wear a size large. Fits perfectly.

I bought this because I needed a lightweight, breathable, warm, windbreaking jacket for when I ride my bicycle at night when it's cool (or in the day when it's cool or rainy of course). I tried on many other jackets form around the mall but these fit so well. My test ride tonight went as well as I could expect. I didn't overheat but it kept me warm. I appreciated being able to zip it up all the way to keep wind out of front, and zip it down to get extra cooling when needed. Looks and function, hard to beat! The medium fits me perfectly. I usually wear a medium or large.

love the Gamma MX Hoody, wasnt to sure about it at first but fell in love with not long after, great shell i used over the winter for many purposes such as hiking, ice climbing, snowboarding, hanging around a fire, doing errands around town.. its a great alternative for something to wear inbetween an atom lt and a beta ar. alot of the times i wore it over my Atom Lt and was a perfect match for me, was warm, breathable and was impressed with the durable water repellent as a few quick snow storms would cruz by and it did the job greatly. when ever im going on road trips for work for a few days or so, this would be my go to jacket for that extra layer.

The Fortius fabric used stands up to every activity I put it through. A favourite piece of gear. PLEASE produce this in a wider variety of earth tones colours, like your foliage colour, but also olive, tan, etc (or similar). These colours could even be marketed as a 'support the earth' campaign, or silmilar. These colours are much better for wildlife watching/photography, and lend a more sedate look for those who don't want to wear the brighter colours. I love mine in black, will buy another if the right colours come along!

Bought this for a recent trip to Japan. We knew the weather would be colder than we were used to (50-30) and I wanted a jacket I could use in the cold & rain in Tokyo. I was pleasantly surprised that this jacket worked out perfectly; great fit, perfect pocket placement (i.e. for Cell phone), and great protection from the elements while never being too hot. I plan on getting another one.

For fitting purposes, I am 6'2", 215 lbs., 35" arms, with a 44" chest, 36" waist, and the large fits me perfectly, very close fitting. I love the royal-blue type color - it really pops out. My girlfriend likes the way it fits because it looks tailored. I use it as my heavy soft-shell for biking and hiking in heavy terrain because it is tough and fends off branches and other growth. Good stretchy, tough material. Lightly insulated lining makes it warm for a soft-shell. With a thicker base layer, like the Rho AR, or the Phase SV Zip-neck, it goes down into the thirties (F), as long as I am moving, but I always carry an emergency hard-shell with it (the Theta LT) for warmth/weather protection purposes, although it does do very well in snow/light rain. If it is really cold, I take along my ultra-compressible Atom LT to go under the Gamma MX. The Gamma is cut so that you can put layers on underneath. Quality of construction is awesome. Good zippers. Tough. Excellent hood with functional drawstrings. When I turn my head to the side, I find that I am NOT looking at fabric, but have a clear view - I really like this feature. And it fits well over my bicycle helmet. I always have a backpack on, so I like the placement of the higher chest pockets, although I have to undo my chest strap to get at them most of the time, but, hey, where else are you going to put them? Definitely, I recommend this soft-shell. It's a warmer, heavier soft-shell that is comfortable in lower temps, looks good, is comfortable to wear, and super durable.

The jacket is extremely high quality and feels premium from the off as well as being a very capable mountain jacket. Price a bit high for what it is hence the drop in point but it's a great piece.

Amazing jacket but please make the jacket have a longer torso. It is always popping out of my harness when I climb. Please please!

This is my 4th Gamma MX. It's pretty heavy duty with four ventilation pockets and light fleece bonded to the inside as a slight insulation. The dwr from factory is usually pretty good for light rain. My only issue with it is the cuff design. I miss the old cuffs which are more like an atom or proton cuff. I honestly can't understand why these are designed this way. If it had the old cuffs I would give it 5 stars! I use this for skiing as it fits over my ski helmet well and if I size up I can fit extra Insulation underneath. Of course if it's really windy and cold I'd recommend a hard shell.

I have the revised 2020 version (replacing 2006 version). The cut is very good. Great articulation around the shoulder and arms. The new cuff design is great for ease of pulling on and off, this should be incorporated into other jackets. The new zipper with stops work, but, I've never had an issue with whatever it is trying to address. The hood design is great and you can cinch it down so that it looks like a normal hood when not wearing a helmet... older jackets had that bulbous mishroom head look. This can be worn as a mid layer, but, the hood may get in the way and combined breathability will be an issue. But, the hood greatly increases the temperature range that you can use this. Parts of the jacket are glued together and may not last over time... e.g. part of the cuff, the part around the waist. In my 2006 Gamma MX, the glued parts have all been worn and detatched, but the stitched areas are fine. I have the 'Dynasty' colour and it appears more orange than red in real life. I have other Arc'teryx products in the same colour and there is a clear different, esp. in the face fabric. Overall, this is a great jacket line and I'm sure I'll get 10+ years of use out this one as well.

This is the second Gamma MX Hoody I have bought, the first being when it was made with Gore Windstopper, I think its about 12 years old and out performs the latest version. The quality and fit have both been excellent, like all my Arc'teryx clothing. But the waterproofing on the current version is poor and incomparable to the older jacket. This is disappointing as I was expecting it to be, as good, if not better. One hour walking in light rain and I was wet through.

I bought this hoody brand new and I fell in love at first wear. Yes the sleeve cuffs were too tight but you fixed that. But you should have stopped... (I've bought two more used so I think I know a good product) You took away the users right breast pocket. (I held my glasses there) and the left shoulder pocket. Why? I won't even consider a jacket that doesn't have a breast pocket for my cell so when I found double - it was double joy! Don't fix what ain't broken.

the size is smaller than other arcteryx clothes! I wear atom M, beta M, very suitable, but gamma mx M is too small

This is a nice jacket overall and I have followed Arcteryx closely for many years (with numerous pieces now). Somewhat unfortunately, the price tag shows 50 dollars less for the exact same model (not last year's) and in general this affected the overall purchase experience.
