Might be my new favorite model. Probably on my 15th pair of Topos. Only one model i didn't care as the sizing was off and I got horrible hotspots after one run, therefore I always stuck with the same model. This model is light weight but has great cushion. Really enjoying so far.

The Specter offers a classic Topo fit, with a secure & comfortable ride. The combination of a rockered design with the Pebax core makes for a quick ride with some pop! Excellent for my workouts, quicker efforts, and road racing!

The soles are amazing. They don't get hard and crack like their brands. Super comfy so far! I wouldn't hesitate buying these if you are on the fence. Fast shipping as well!

Comfortable road running shoe. As another review said, they airy with the mesh letting a lot of air through. The laces seem to come untied too frequently so I need to double knot them.

Fit closer to true foot size than Altras normally do on my feet by a half size. However, the shoes are narrower in the mid foot and toe box than Altras, which might be better for folks who find Altras too wide, but the jury is out as to whether or not these will work (for me) as well as Altras do. Having only walked around my neighborhood in them, they feel very comfortable and supportive. The overall construction and quality seems to be above the most recent Altras I've purchased, hence the experiment with the Topo Athletic Specters.
I'd also recommend:

I've been enjoying Topo trail shoes for a few years now. I needed a good pair of road shoes for an upcoming road marathon. These don't disappoint. I really like the extra cushion and the responsiveness of these shoes. Not too firm, not too squishy. They've been really nice on long training runs.

I am Topo "fan boy" and have run through multiple pair of just about every model (2 UtraFlys; 3 MagniFlys; 2 Zephyrs; 2 Mtn Racers; 1 Cyclone). I was gifted these shoes for Christmas and was very excited to try 'em. I was not disappointed. The cushioning was a little harsh out of the box. Not sure if this was a break-in period or a result of running in really cold New England temperatures. This went away very quickly. I have ~150 miles on them and couldn't be more impressed. Great combination of cushion and rebound, equally good on road or treadmill at any speed or distance (5K up to 1/2 marathon), and sufficient stability for a mild pronator. My only question about these is the tread wear. I typically get 350-400 on other models. I am hoping these will not disappoint. My only request would be to have one or two conservative color options. I'm too old to be wearing creamsicle orange.

Finally I can run without knee and back pain. Love these shoes. Maybe 100 miles on them now and the sole is wearing well. Goldilocks of running shoes...super cushion, very breathable, and responsive. Very comfortable during the run and after the run. Thanks Tony!

I walk a lot but also work on my feet for long shifts. I needed a roomy tie box plus a sturdy cushioned shoe for this. The Specter has provided comfort and stability for me.

Just ran a 10k with the Specters fresh out of the box. Quite possibly the most enjoyable road run I've done in years. These shoes have a remarkable balance between cushion and support, and they are super light. Another home run for Topo.

I've tried all the top sneakers and the Topo Spector is the very best! I just wish there were more colors besides brown.

I love the wide toe box and cushion in the sole. I wore these to train for my fall marathon, on road and on the treadmill. They never disappointed me.

Have worn the Phantom for years but have now switched to the Specter. They are lighter and faster. You have to reach a little deeper into your wallet but I don't think I'm going back. If I ran a marathon tomorrow, this would be the shoe. Watch out Kipchoge!

Primarily I am using my shoes on the road. Great cushion feeling, and the wider toe box is exactly what I need. The additional lacing holes on the upper tongue are perfect. Shoes never come untied, and the tongue holds better to my foot.

As someone who has been buying Topo Ultraflys over and over again, I've been looking for a more supportive light weight runner that has the same wide toe box (because I have hobbit feet) and heel - toe drop. I was about to buy the new Ultrafly when I saw this new model. I have to say after about 30 miles, I'm loving these shoes as they're great for speed training and long runs, alongside feeling instantly familiar.

This is my vote for best road shoe. Better than all others at this price range. Nice fit right out of the box and smooth on the roads. Semi durable, definitely better than others. Looks great and has good air flow. Only complaint is the collar opens up while stepping and allows little rocks in.

This is my 2nd pair of Topo's. First pair were Mtn Racer 2. In both cases I love the wide toe box with the more secure mid foot. Feels very secure on the foot while give my toes room to do what they want to do. The specter felt squishy and unstable for the first few miles (this is my first high cushion shoe) but once I got used to it, I really like them.

Loved my other Topo's but needed something softer to recovery from hip injury. These are working great and feel super soft. Almost too soft if you need some support, but for me this is perfect. I will order a couple more pairs for day to day loafing around. I also like the softer upper for slipping in feet without retying shoestrings.

I've experimented with numerous brandslove the altra foot shape.love the hoka ridelove the brooks heel lockbut I always feel that something is missing. This shoe, while still not perfect, got me closer than most. The toe box works perfect but somehow the look isn't as severe as the altras. The ride is not the cloud like feel of the hokas but I somehow enjoy the responsiveness and bounce. If topo could find a way to dial the heel and foot lock in on this one like the Phantom 2 it would be nearly perfect.
