I recently got custom orthotics and purchased the Echelon accomodate the orthotics. I have been wearing Saucony shoes for about 10 years (the Omni line), so I thought I would stick with the brand. I ordered the normal width, and my orthotics fit fine in the shoe, but my foot does not feel locked down (too much material/width??). Additionally, the sole of the shoe is very flat and slippery. Just because a shoe has a wider base and accommodates orthotics does not mean it should not have good traction. The shoe was slippery just walking around on wet pavement. It would have been nice to traction that you feel comfortable walking on grass and light trails. But, I have noticed that a lot of Saucony's newer versions of shoes have smooth(er) soles. I wouldn't even feel comfortable using these shoes for mowing the lawn/yardwork. And lastly, just because a shoe accommodates orthotics and has a wider base does not mean it needs to look big and clunky like an orthopedic shoe and have boring/uninspiring colors. Unfortunately, this will probably be donated and I am out $150+ (and that's another thing, this shoe should be no more than $120). On to a new brand!

First pair of Sauconys. I like the fit and comfort, but these shoes are much too delicate for someone looking for a dedicated running shoe or walking shoe. Ive been using mine for daily walks and runs for almost 4 months, and approximately 500 miles. The material on top of the shoe is designed to look cool, so there are areas of dense weave and very sparse weave. This causes an uneven flex in the material between the dense where it is not so flexible, and the sparse weave where it is very flexible. It is at this point where the rip and failure has started. Saucony would not warranty this failure, so I am looking for other brands which are better designed for durability and worth the cost.

I have metatarsalgia and a lot of pain in my feet and use custom made orthotics. Ive worn another brand religiously for years. Decided to try something new so went to a running shoe speciality shoe. I ended up purchasing the echelon 9 which are orthotic friendly. They felt good and gave me some relief on my 2-3 mile walks. I ended up ordering another pair in a different color. Im still not pain free but like these shoes. They fit well.

Bought these shoes about s as month ago. Basically same as all the other Echelons I've bought over the years. However the wide size it's tighter than in previous models. One other feature the is new is the tongue of the shoe is now held in place with an elastic panel on each side, which I don't like, it's uncomfortable, like you are forced to lace up the shoe tighter than you want to.

These shoes are great for flat feet and orthotic compatible. These shoes provide great support and stability without being heavy. The wide foot bed has room for custom orthotics without creating a fit thats too tight.

I have had my Echelon 9s for a month or so and love them. The new version of the Echelon offers the same great fit, particularly with my orthotics, and adds additional cushioning. I really like the new mesh fabric too. I am a big Saucony fan and, unfortunately, only the Echelons really fill my needs. I was hoping one of the trail shoes (e.g., the Peregrine) would be as comfortable but the fit wasnt the same. I think that has something to do with the Echelons design as it relates to accepting orthotics.

There is a lot to like about the new Echelon. The wide model is a little wider in the forefoot than the previous model. It is also snugger in the heel which make a better fit for me. There seems to be a different feel in the mid foot that gives it a springier feel. The shoe is definitely lighter than previous models. The Echelon also has a great new look. The laces seem improved. The older laces always twisted up on themselves. I am not a runner, but I walk between 5 and 10 km a night at work. I started wearing Echelons because they accommodate my orthotics well. This is my fourth pair of Echelons.

I have had the Echelon's since the model 5. This model fits and feels different than the past 2 generations: Echelon 8 or Echelon 7. Seems a hair narrower, and doesn't have that floating feel to it. I have wide flat feet, and I can feel it a hair on the sides. I have put about 1 months worth of walking on these, in the range of 20-30 miles. They have loosened up a little, but time will tell, if they spread out a bit.

After three pairs of Echelon 8 I ordered, direct from Saucony, the Echilon 9 since the 8 was no longer available. I ordered the same size---8 wide. The shoe is approximately two sizes smaller than the 8 version. I am not very happy and the shoes are sitting in my closet having never been used..

Stay away from all their products. It failed a month after use. It was comfortable at first thin the sole thinned out. It started to break apart. I do not recommend this product to anyone. I will never purchase anything from them anymore

Very comfortable, the insert is just perfect for my plantar fasciitis condition. It supports my foot and heel, this is my second pair of of echelon 9s. Thinking of a third as well.

I have had each version of echelon since version 6. These are not a good as the past versions. I have always been able to get this shoe in extra wide but not this version. The wide in this shoe is not as wide but it works. The base in the other shoes seemed more rigid. This base is vey soft. I hope in their next version they go back to a similar shoe to the older versions. I still plan to purchase newer versions just not as satisfied with this version 9.

From a comfort and fit standpoint, I absolutely love these shoes. My only complaint is their durability. I'm not a hard core runner, just a daily walker so I would expect to get more than 3-4 months out of a pair of quality sneakers but sadly that seems to be the lifespan for these. When you have very wide feet and high arches, it's hard to find a good fitting pair of sneakers. They were recommended to me after New Balance inexplicably discontinued their 940's which was my previous go to sneaker. While they weren't cheap, I would always get a year + out of them, not 3-4 months. I guess my search for a new go to sneaker continues
I'd also recommend:
New Balance

the runners are very comfortable and fit to size, the only problem is the top of the toe fabric seems to be wearing out very quickly. I have only had them about a month max. and worry they wont hold up to long. I think they need some reinforcement on top of the toe area.

Needs more rocker sole. I suffer from foot drop. Echelon 7 and 8 has more of a rocker sole which prevents slapping when you walk or run. The 9 have a distinctive slap.

I absolutely loved these shoes until the back part wore down. To be fair, it's partially my fault. If you are someone who tends to slide into shoes and not sit down and carefully put them on (like me), be aware. One of the two shoes crunched down and hasn't bounced back. They are no longer comfortable. I've never had that happen to a shoe. It's really unfortunate! It feels like there's cardboard or something in that section that slipped down. But there's no way for me to fix it. But if you are more careful than me, they will be great.

Sized short compared to the previous Echelon 8 I purchased before. Made the shoe cheaper in my opinion. Just not as well made.
