I get XL for more room and this runs smaller than the usual XL base layers (I have way too many of!)and isn't as stretchy. The hood is close fitting. I love the mix of textures and roomy pockets.

I bought the collared, 3/4 zip version of this sweater and wanted more. They were out of my size so I tried this. The quality is great. The hoodie front is almost like a cowl neck so it should be super warm. I am loving this!

My new go-to for skiing. Can put the hood up to stay extra warm on colder days. Looks very nice and keeps shape well. Only thing is to be careful of snagging. Have to keep my pockets zipped if I wear a vest with this or the arms catch the zippers. Would definitely buy again.

I've used this product on day hiking trips. It was comfortable with a base layer underneath in the high 30's/ low 40's. I especially love the turtleneck and hood feature, zippered pockets, and the thumb holes to keep the hands warm. A great tech piece that wears great even carrying a day pack for many miles! #smartwoollove

I am pretty impressed with the warmth of this Intraknit Merino Pullover. I used it for ice skating and was really comfortable. The 2 zip pockets are nice and not bulky. #smartwoollove

Dresses up and down! Thicker than the average base layer, which makes it warmer and more durable. Only downside is the hood tugs up. #SMARTWOOLLOVE

Wow! I love the color! I just recently wore it on a chilly backpacking trip and it was warm and very breathable. I received lots of compliments on the color. Plus it looks awesome! #SmartwoolLove

This is a technical piece from Smartwool that has been fun putting to the test. For me this is the go to for skiing, hiking, biking and snowshoeing. The total lack of snow and temperatures in the mid 30's to low 40's had me testing it on hikes and on the bike. Part of the attraction of this hoody for me was the knit in wind protection and the DWR finish. I figure going for a chilly ride would be the best way to try it out....I wore a base layer underneath on a 38 degree day and it was perfect. I liked the ability to utilize the cowl neck to protect my face against the wind. The hood even fit up on my helmet. I was not disappointed by the wind protection the front of the hoody provided. I also appreciated the zipper pockets for stashing my cell phone on the ride. This is the one piece from Smartwool that is true tech for me, could I wear it to a brewery after a ski or a ride and look and smell good...yes. I feel like the cowl neck and hood would get in the way for casual wear but definitely serve it's purpose for technical wear. I'm excited to try this hoody in nasty Western NY weather so bring it on Mother Nature. #SmartwoolLove

This one is so good! The fit is perfection, fitted without being constricting and just the right amount of stretch. The colors are gorgeous! Zipper pockets keep everything safe. This is the perfect layer for any outdoor activity or even just hanging out indoors. The hood is an added bonus, it comes up higher on the neck in the front and helps keep you toasty. You need it, it's so good! #SmartWoolLove

I was already hooked on the Intraknit collection but then I was introduced to this beauty. I got a firsthand feel on how well it works while doing a high intensity activity in the cold. I was ski touring in the backcountry. It was very cold, and I was wearing this top. It kept me warm while touring up the mountain. It wicked away the moisture I was building but didn't feel cold or even chilly for that fact. I could feel the wind protection, I was super impressed. While skiing down I used the hood under my Hudson Trail Cap and the high neck as a baclava. It was perfect!!! I was very comfortable, after my tour I went out to dinner wearing this because it looks that good. After an epic tour, my top didn't smell, and you could not tell I had been sweating a bit from touring. This is what you need if you want to stay warm but don't want a bunch of bulky clothing. #smartwoollove

I love the Intraknit baselayers, so I was excited to give these midlayers a try. This midlayer is incredibly durable and I know it's going to last me a long time. I love the fit - especially the cowl neck! I'm sometimes hesitant to buy a midlayer like this with a hood, since I probably won't use it. That said, the hood folds up nicely behind my neck without being too bulky. All in all, I love it.

I ended up returning this. It was a great sweater.. but the arms were too short for me. I'm 6'1" though so it's a common issue.

This top is heavy and warm but cut nicely so you can still move around in it easily. I wear it while working outdoors in cold weather. The hood eliminates the need for a neck gator and keeps me warm. It's a little tight around the neck and hard to pull on and off. Otherwise the fit is excellent.

I really like the design. A little tight around neck and slightly itchy. I'm hoping after more wear it won't be so itchy and tight in the neck area. I don't like my clothes to fit tight. So I'm glad I ordered a size up.

I am in absolute shock at how many 5-star reviews this item has. I have many, many Smartwool products that I love and have loved/worn over the years, but this was a miss for me. The arms from the elbow to the shoulder are extremely tight, it feels tight under the arms as well, which makes movement a bit of a challenge. The fabric is stiff and itchy (not a problem I usually associate with this brand). I couldn't wait to take it off after a 3-mile dog walk. On the up side, it is warm and thicker, so I have no doubt it would work well in really cold conditions when doing athletic activities (skiing, hiking, running, etc), and I was very warm (too warm, really) on our brisk walk on a 35F degree morning, so that is a plus for this top. The fit in the body is nice - shapely without being extraordinarily tight (though I don't think I could layer much more than a thin layer under this piece at most). I'm normally an XL with Smartwool, sometimes a large if it runs bigger, but my usual size XL just doesn't feel right. I am so disappointed. I bought two of these while there was a discount thinking that I'd love them, but I really don't. I don't know if washing will help the stiffness and itchiness, so perhaps I'll try that before sending them both back, but overall, this was not the great item I had anticipated. If you don't mind itchy, stiff fabric, and you are slim, perhaps this would work. Otherwise, I'd try another item first.
