Size 11. I live in VietNam and I can buy 'backdoor' (stolen) from workers at the factory here in VietNam, not rejects but boxed ready for retail sale.
Even at deep 'discounts", I would never buy a Doc Martens again as these quality is poor, the leather sub-standard. In fact I used industrial super-glue to reinforce the heels. I noticed my 'sales contact' didn't wear Doc Martens, either.
Time to find a quality alternative.

Ordered the Black Smooth Leather in a Men's 8 / Women's 9 (UK 7) and had to return them as defective merchandise due to cuts and gaps in the black rubber where the stitching is. Not only that, but the pair I received, made in Vietnam, were not 100% genuine leather, and places where the glue hadn't dried properly and it flipped upward to reveal the webbed textile backing found on pleather items. There was no indication that the boots were made of genuine leather, no smell even, though the loop tag wasn't the yellow tag found on the Vegan 1460s. I'm going through the actual DM site to purchase real leather boots made in England as my size is not in stock here.

I have a pair of 1460 Dr. Martens (from a Dr. Martens store)that I love. I bought a pair for my son and either the quality has deteriorated in 2 years or these are not originals. The leather is nothing like mine and the fit is way off. He wears a 10 in every shoe he is and these were huge. The leather looked very cheap and fake. Very disappointed and definitely sending these back.

These were not a men’s 12, nor were they smooth leather. I don’t know what they were, but they were not the shoes I purchased, and they were returned.

I returned. These were clearly fakes. Zappos is owned by amazon, which I didn’t know at the time of order. I know amazon sells counterfeit products.
The pair I received felt like cardboard covered in leather.
After returning, I ordered from dr martens. Big difference. Now I have real leather boots, that fit.
But, do research amazon/Zappos sell fakes and they don’t care.

I had a pair 2 years old and they won’t honor the warranty because of both bottoms splitting open of the 5 lace hole pair and the new ones rub my back ankles.

Hideously cheap feeling boots. The "leather" looks and feels like plastic. Multiple manufacturing defects per shoe. I don't blame the Vietnamese laborers for not caring too much given their wages. I wouldn't buy these if they were $20 at a discount store. Wow.

UPDATE to my review of June 22, 2018 (filed as "Zappos Reviewer").
It is hard to express how furious I am. The quality of Docs continues to descend into nothingness. This pair, which I received on April 24, have failed. This after under three months of wear-and-tear at a desk job and minimal wear at home.
The first two pics are from today (7/18/18) of this pair demonstrating what has happened after less than three months. The other two pics (9/30/17) are of my last pair, which had the same failure as the pair before them.
With my previous pair, they generously offered me the opportunity to ship them to corporate for an examination at my own expense. If they found a manufacturing problem, they would replace and reimburse. Otherwise, I could have them back (a few weeks later) at my own expense for shipping.
A more expensive product. A warranty that comes at cost to the consumer. What happened?
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, lost a customer for life.
Doctor Martens. Once a great, high-quality boot. Now more overpriced crap.
After more than 25 years of loyalty, it looks like I'm punching out on Docs and looking for something new. Any recommendations?

So disappointed in the low level of quality in recent years. Bought a pair 9 months ago (July 2017) and after daily wear the leather cracked clean through by the toes of both boots,, letting the lining show and water get in. These were to replace a pair bought a year and a half earlier (April 2015), and that pair stood up to daily wear for only a year and a half before a sole cracked clean through. The soles were better quality back when they were made in the UK. They used to last at least 2 years before either the leather or soles cracked. Not these days.

I really liked these boots at first. They were good looking, waterproof and seemingly durable. After a year and a month they are completely shot. The leather has holes in it where the boot flexes as I walk, the tread has worn out, and the left sole is cracked. I work in a retail environment and walk about a mile a day 5 days a week. I kept up with the polish and use a boot dryer, but it made no difference.
In the future I know to look out for cheap materials like this and I will be purchasing higher quality boots even though it will mean paying more.

The sole started to detach after 5 months. I have been using Dr. Martens for the past 25 years and never saw anything like that. Zappos customer care is replacing the shoes for free.
The big problem is that this is the second time this happens for the same shoes! I had them already replaced for the same problem, so this is the third pair I am getting.
I hope the issue is one specific factory/country: both defective pairs of shoes came from Vietnam. I have another pair made in Thailand that is still good, so I hope they do not break as well. If Dr. Martens is reading, I hope they will improve quality control on ALL their factories as these shoes are still very expensive.

I'm not one to typically leave a review; If I like something, I'll likely buy that something again. If I don't, I'll look elsewhere. However, these boots have been so miserable throughout my year and a half of owning them that if I can convince one person to look for another product I will be happy. I do not want any consolation from Doc's, I have worn these daily for a year and a half so I at least feel that I got my use from them. Nor do I want any from Zappos, I will be buying a new pair of boots from here, that aren't made by Doc Martens, because Zappos customer service always keeps me coming back. That said, these boots took about 3 weeks to break in which is normal to me but it was only about after 6 months that the leather between the laces and the toe began to crack and split open. Mind you, I work in an office and the most strenuous activity I will do in a day is walk up two flights of stairs, yet after 6 months these boots looked like toe was going to outright fall off. Not long after that a large section of the heel ripped, not where a seam was just right in the middle of the leather. The quality of the leather is so poor, I feel that it more closely resembles wet cardboard. The insides of the boots were reduced to shreds after only a year, I routinely found myself pulling out pieces of fabric from the inside of the shoe, especially where the heel is. Even pieces of plastic were coming loose and I had to tear them out because it constantly felt like there was a giant rock in my shoe. As for the soles, they supposedly are resistant to Oil, Fat, Petrol, Acid, and Alkali; I wouldn't know as I've never walked on any of those substances before in these boots. I do walk on snow a lot, and I can tell you, you're going to eat it wearing these. Absolutely no traction in snow or slush. I'm not talking ice here, I don't expect any boot that doesn't have metal spikes on the bottom to be ice resistant, but just walking on snow in these feels like walking on a slip-n-slide while barefoot. After a year and a half, the traction on the soles is just gone. I don't care anymore, my feet can't take this any longer.
I'm just going to outright say it, these boots are Chinese garbage and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't wear these if they were free.
Thank you for your time

Very disappointed that these didn't hold up, not even a year old and the sole is splitting away from the boot.

Love the look of these boots. Solid looking. Took a few days and blisters to break in. Got a size smaller and they fit great. Only thing: haven't even worn them a couple of days and already the leather is peeling and flaking. They are cheaply made uppers even though they have a solid sole wish I would have went with another pair because of the flaking, peeling leather.

Very frustrated to have had these Doc Martens for a year and see both shoes have their soles begin tearing away from the bottom of the shoe. And, after really only wearing 2-3 times per week. Not happy to have to have them re-glued. I hope they last, but will reconsider buying Doc's in the future.

I had a pair of Dr. Martins and they had mysteriously gotten a hole in the fabric at the tip on my right foot. I don't know how it happened as it just appeared one day. I sent them to you your returns depart, emt for surely after a little more than a year of ownership this could not have been from mere wear. Surly Dr. Martins are made of sterner stuff. I even wrote for an update after a week (I never received a write back). Imagine my surprise when I received my shoes in a poorly packed box with a letter stating, "Your shoes have been received and inspected. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate this exchange for the following reasons...Wear and Tear." What? Really the life of the "The For Life Range," "rugged," "Hardlife," Dr. Martin is one year? I thought, and I quote, "The leather will look good for years to come" this is one year? That is depressing. My Chaco flip-flops have outlived my "For Life Range" shoes.

If you want the old Docs, you have to buy the vintage line. They are still made in England and are much better quality than the cheaper models which are now made in various Asian countries. Of course, they are also more expensive. Don't buy the mass produced Asian models expecting them to equal the "vintage" quality.

I think the quality of leather varies from boot style to boot style. I owned my first pair about 25 years ago and they were fine after having to break them in for a couple of weeks. I never took them off and wore them everywhere with most everything. Eventually they cracked on the bottom from being so worn out. then I bought an identical pair 10 years ago and they were terrible. they were labeled leather, but I still think they are not. They are at the bottom of my closet, hardest leather ever and money wasted. Now a month ago I bought a pair of "Aimille" boots in the brown and I love them. The softest leather and really nice and even a bit on the feminine side. I'm returning them for a smaller size, but that's the only thing wrong. The leather is fine and soft and no breaking in time needed.
