I used these the last two weekends on some trail runs and they were unbelievably comfortable. I tend to pronate so sometimes my feet hurt after a few miles, not in these! They felt pretty good even after 3-4 miles.

I'm a true size 9 and it fit is pretty good. I couldn't go up because I would slip out of the heel which already seems loose. I wear thicker socks and tighten the laces well to keep from slipping. They look great and there is a lot of cushion. I wore them on a 6 mile hike on fairly easy terrain and they performed better than expected. I've also used these on my treadmill and it almost feels like I'm bouncing, there is so much cushion. They give me some height too! There was a bit of an adjustment for me when I first put them on walking. After 10 minutes i felt comfortable and I realized my posture was better and I was putting less pressure on my joints.

Got a 6.5 - length felt TTS but width feels wide and very little arch support. I over pronate so I wasn't expecting any support in that regard but these actually made me feel like they were designed for oversupinators.

The heel on this shoe is too sloppy. It slips. I have inserts and that helps but the inserts peel off intermittently.

Love that they are waterproofed. They feel more narrow than regular Olympus shoes I think possibly due to no flexibility in material. Wish I had bought 1/2 size larger. They also feel denser in the cushioning as they are a heavy shoe and not lightweight. Wish they were also lightweight but I'm hoping they will be good in the winter. Also sad they have no gaiter traps!!!! Overall still comfortable with the wide toe box. Shoelaces way too short!

My feet hurt after wearing these for too long. I loved my previous Olympus 5's but these are not nearly soft enough

I hike in my altras and this has been my go-to for awhile now. I have LOVED this brand and it's shoes! I ordered 2 pairs online this time, one waterproof and the other not, feeling super confident in the sizing and fit after living in my other pairs. But I can't even wear these ones!! They seriously squeeze my toes. I have wasted my money and now I'm a bit lost trying to find a new shoe before a big, thru hiking trip I've been looking forward to all year. Altra, I was here for the roomy, wide toe box. Please bring it back

I really wanted to like these shoes, but...ugly! Loved the heel lock lace option, and the toe box was a perfect size. But way way more clunky than you might expect from the picture, not agile at all.

I was hesitant to buy these shoes because I had read other reviews that said the heel slipped. But I bought them anyway, and sure enough the heel definitely slips. Also, agree that the laces are way too short. I have the lone peaks and I do like them, but I prefer a sturdier waterproof shoe so I wanted to try these. I ended up returning them cause I can't deal with my heel slipping out of the shoe with every step. I would love for Altra to fix these two issues because I would gladly buy them again if you did!

Wore first pair exclusively during 10 day hiking trip without issue. Good shoe, but many reviews regarding longevity of materials concerning, as is that Altra limits reviews to 200 letters.

These were a bit stiffer than I expected and had to loosen up all the laces and kind of jam my foot in. The heel lip kept folding in, but once I got my foot in, seemed liked a perfect fit, except when I laced up and walked around. My heel kept slipping out. I do wear custom orthotics, but I don't have that issue with my other shoes. These seem a bit shorter in length but combined with a boxy toe area, was perfect for my broken big toe. Unfortunately, with the heel issue, I had to return these. Also, wish Altra included longer laces, with all of thier shoes ;)

Based on reviews and recommendations from Altra, I sized up a half size in these. I found them to be much too large; if anything, I should've sized a half size down. Even though the size is incorrect, I can tell that even with the correct size there will be issues with slippage in the heel. The heel is very..short? Shallow? I'm also concerned about the ankle support because of that. The traction seems great, but I can't accurately vouch for that as I don't have the correct size to wear for a reasonable amount of time to safely test.

Good cushioning. Although it's a low cut, I felt good ankle support. The reason for only 3 stars is that i slid several time on wet rocks -- a prevalent condition on the Inca Trail.

I bought the regular OLYMPUS 5 and the GTX at the same time and tested them on my treadmill. The heel on the non-waterproof shoe stays put and fits great. The heel of the GTX slips with every single step, which would be a disaster hiking. Why would Altra make the same shoe with two different fits for waterproof vs not?

Wanted to love this new GTX model as it was everything I was looking for in a hiking shoe. But there was too much heel slippage, even with a heel lock tie. Typically wear a 9 in Altra but started with an 8.5, which was too short (I'm a regular size 8). The 9 was perfect on length but both had slippage in the heelthe heel cup simply isn't deep enough for my foot. Otherwise I really like the shoe (though other colors would be nice). The wide toe box is on full display here and the shoe felt sturdy.

I am a long time Olympus fan. I was excited to get the waterproof version but they are not even close to the same shoe. The biggest issue is that the heel is so shallow that my foot almost slides out of the shoe with every step. No amount of different lacing helps. So disappointing, I really needed these shoes to work.

I usually wear Lone Peak's hiking. I wanted an Altra that was waterproof . In the store the Olympus Gortex felt fine. The next day hiking I had to tie the shoes multiple times even though they were double knotted . The arch of the foot was so uncomfortable. The balls of my feet kept getting cramps. Never has this happened in an Altra .

Lone Peak 7 is the only shoe I have found with a wide enough toe box. I was hoping these would offer the same but with more cushion and GTX. They actually feel less cushioned, and the heel slips.

I have been purchasing the same Altra walking shoes for years and never noticed I was purchasing 'standard' foot shape. Olympus 5 Hike are 'original' foot shape - much too wide and feel a half size too small for me. Altra should just name their shoes 'extra wide', 'wide', and 'slightly less wide'. Original, standard etc is not descriptive at all. I returned these for hiking shoes in 'standard' which is what I have been purchasing in a walking shoe for years. 'Standard' also fits the length I have been wearing and does not feel too short.

These shoes are terribly uncomfortable. I'm on my 2nd day wearing them and they're just hurting my feet more and more. The fit is strange - super tight across the base of the toes (I have a bunion on one foot), but my heal slips up every time I take a step. They almost feel too long, but I can't imagine going doing a half size because of how tight they are everywhere else. I'm not sure I can return them because they were on sale, but I'd never buy them again. Unfortunately, this was my first experience with Altras and I'm not impressed.

Bring back Olympus 4. I bought Olympus 5 and hiked my usual mountain trail. The shoes were beginning to hurt my feet. They were too narrow, not enough padding, and just uncomfortable. When I got home and took them off, my feet hurt so bad that I could hardly walk. I checked the inside of the shoe and saw that the lining was coming apart. Very poor construction. I also had to buy longer shoe laces. I finally found a shoe that fit perfectly, and then the company changed the shoe construction. I had bought three Olympus 4 shoes in the past and LOVED them. I will have to start looking at other brands. How sad.

These are definitely waterproof and a bit stiff. I returned them. The rep told me my 6month old Altras wore through the lining because they were too big. I ordered a 1/2 sz down and guess what? Yep too small. Now I sent them back and the return credit is taking forever... after this replacement I'm done with Altra. They wear too fast, and the customer service is off.
