I was very excited for these pair of shoes as I liked the design of it along with the gore-tex waterproofing. I wore these for my tour du mont blanc trek last month and started developing right lateral foot pain after a couple days from the constant pressure applied to my mid-foot. The shoes are also on the heavier end of the spectrum as well. I will give the shoes some credit as the grip and traction was very good. SO in summary I would give these shoes 2.5 stars if i could,.

I have purchased Lone Peaks before and decided to try Olympus 5 hiker low. I was very disappointed. The width was too narrow causing my feet to fall asleep. The lasses needed to be pulled at each lass cross. The back pull on loop needs to be rotated 90 degrees and made of wide fabric and not lass material. One last this the back of the right shoe feels low on the back of my foot. It feels like my foot is pulling out. I am in the process of returning this item and going back to the Lone Peaks.

Ordered this pair and the Via Olympus. Compared to the Via Olympus the Olympus 5 Hike Low is much shorter in length and at least a full size narrower.

I have owned four pairs of Olympus 4s; I buy a new pair every ~4 months. And they're my favorite shoe of all time! I have wide feet, and they were a blessing. I ordered this Olympus 5 in the same size I've always bought the Olympus 4 in, and I just can't wear it. It's too snug - too narrow, specifically. I really hope that it has to do with the materials (leather rather than mesh) on the GTX Hike, and the normal Olympus 5 will fit like my beloved Olympus 4. But I'm not optimistic. Anyhow, not sure what shoe to buy now! Hokas have extra wide options, maybe I'll try them again. But I really liked Altra for the FootShape design. I'm going to buy a couple pairs of Olympus 4s right now to hold me through most of this year, but stocks are low! What comes next?! I would recommend to a friend, because these would work great for most people. But if you bought Altras for their width, you might need to look elsewhere.

These shoes felt shaped a little strangely but I needed a good pair of hiking boots so I decided to give them a shot. I liked how they are durable against the elements, but was super disappointed about the lack of arch support (I have high arches)

I'd hoped that these would be a great all-weather alternative to the Olympus 4's that I wear almost every day. They are not. The fit (because the GTX material upper is less flexible?) is snug compared to the Olympus 4's that I wear. They just don't replicate the Olympus 4 level of comfort.

Lost a significant portion of the tread on both shoes after approximately 20 miles of mixed hiking and trail running on primarily sand/gravel trails in the Wasatch range. I suspect there is a problem with the adhesive to the rest of the shoe, and I don't know if this is a problem with previous versions of the Olympus. I've been happy with several other pairs of Altras I've had, but I ultimately had to return this pair.

Lugs separated from soles almost immediately, and repeatedly, on all my Olympus shoes. (4 pairs) Repaired with shoe glue, but then other lugs peeled off. Would be great if they lasted.

These shoes are hot! My feet burn up in them. Not sure why. I have heard others say the same thing. They are comfortable and my foot feels stable. Not worth the price they charge. Only gortex option.

I own a pair of VIA OLYMPUS shoes and they feel great. I wanted to get a pair of shoes that are water resistant so I thought the OLYMPUS 5 HIKE LOW GTX would be a great option as they are lined with Gore-Tex. The deep teal also looks great, in my opinion. With great anticipation, I ordered the shoes and was looking forward to putting some miles on these shoes. When they arrived I immediately tried them on and knew immediately they were not going to work out for me. The left shoe felt fine. The right shoe on the other hand was incredibly tight across the top of the foot. This was before I even tried to lace up the shoe. The difference between the left and right shoe leads me to suspect the quality control for this shoe. I am disappointed with this shoe as it looks great and I have been satisfied with the VIA OLYMPUS shoe. The good news is that I am extremely satisfied with Altra's return policy. No questions asked; I have returned the shoe and am looking for an alternative original footshare shoe.

Sadly as the title suggests, the shoes are not waterproof. I bought them for the purpose of hiking in Japan with the possibility of rain a high probability. So disappointed. Goretex is a scam.

Upon delivery the upper appears to made from leather. There is no mention of leather use on Altra site, box or shoe. I'm incredibly sad that they'd hide this important detail. This will effect my future purchases.

Received the shoes. They fit great. Feel great. Look great. But the tread starting coming off immediately after using. Maybe I received a faulty pair? I would like to order another pair and give them a second shot. But the response I received from Altra customer care did not address the tread issue.
