First off, this is the best looking shoe, I think I've ever owned. The style and the touch of color on the black and green one is perfect. The feel is good, but I wish it came in extra wide. However, the biggest let down is the midsole. If this midsole was his squishy as my Gel Nimbus 25, I don't think I would need another shoe. In fact, I would probably buy multiple pairs. I can't wait for the next version. I hope they got super soft in that midsole and maybe even add more stack height.

I also purchased Lone Peak shoes at the same time. The Lone Peaks fit perfect for my wide feet, and are very comfortable. I think my feet are something like DD width - not super wide. I very much wanted to like these Olympus shoes with additional padding, but they are too narrow in the mid-foot. Painfully so. The whole shoe seems to be cut for flatter and narrower feat compared to the Lone Peak. The laces are too short to lace up (I have a high instep), and thus I had to skip the last hole (not so with the Lone Peak shoe). Because of this, the heal easily slides out of the shoe when walking and would be a blister maker. The style is quite nice, and these are probably amazing shoes for someone with flat narrow feet.

Love the shoe but unfortunately the treads continue to rip off. I had a pair and within a month I had to warranty them. I thought it might have been a defect on the pair but it happened again.

Tight across the top of the foot. Laces are too short. I have narrow/small feet for a guy. I have worn Altra shoes since the beginning. Dozens of pairs worn out and they are usually the best shoe I know.

My son loves this brand and this is his 2nd pair. He's only had this pair for 2 months and the sole's already torn up. We've tried gluing the strips back but nothing seems to work.

This will be my fourth pair of Olympus, first try at the 5.0. I ordered size 14 for me and 6.5 for my quintessential loveliness. Hers are spot on, she loves them like her previous versions. My men's size 14 unusable due to the laces being so short I can't even get a tiny bow tie going! I'm out $$ since customer service said they don't offer longer (normal!) laces but they are working on it. Maximum score on the bummer scale. Maybe the smaller sized shoes are ok but if you're a bigun, you may come up short on these Olympus 5.0s.

Want to love them but these have definitely fallen short from the Olympus 4. They seem to be a bit tight on the bridge of my foot compared to the 4. I definitely feel like they have a bit more cushion than the 4 which is a plus for having a pack on. The loops on the back are by far the worst thing about this shoe I wear short socks and this loop rubs me raw just above my sock.

I have owned 2 pairs so far. I like the cushion (although it seems to only last for a couple hundred miles) and the fit. The grips on the front have peeled off on both pairs with less than 100 miles on them which was disappointing. And the inside of the heel has worn through to the foam on both pairs as well. I really enjoy running in these shoes and will continue to use them for now but I am disappointed in the lack of durability in the two pairs that I own. I hope Altra will work at improving this in newer models. It's a very expensive shoe for the lack of mileage I get out of them. I am a huge fan of the toe box and these shoes have been a major upgrade from what I used before.

I use this product for daily a wear and hiking. These are one of the most comfortable shoes I've worn in years. I really appreciate the wide toe box which accommodates my bunions. The sole has incredible grip. Even though I love these shoes, I probably would not buy them again without a upgrade in materials. The reason I would not buy another pair is because of the woven material on the upper does not hold up. I have had the shoes for about eight months now and the material is tearing where my foot bends and where the material meets the rand. I recommend a more serious hiking style shoe with nubuck leather or something similar that holds up to rugged mountain or desert trails especially ones that have volcanic rock. These shoes at the present are more suited to wide, groomed forest trails. I know that weight is one of the factors when designing a good running shoe but for the money spent, I would appreciate a shoe that made to last at least a year or two.

I have found some of the reviews to be CORRECT! The volume in the 5 is LESS than the 4 and are not as comfortable.. I have to wear thinner socks and open the laces more than in any of my other shoes. They are NOT narrow at the toes! They just have less volume in the middle of the shoe and feel tight on top at the laces, even when the laces are loose! Not an issue I ever had before/ If it was not for that issue, I would say they are better than the 4!! And because they are "open" more I needed to get longer laces to tie them.... PLEASE go back to the same volume as the 4!!!!!!

This is my 7th pair of Olympus shoes and I think last year's model was the best so far. This new model has too much padding in the uppers making the heel feel loose and the loop on the back is unnecessarily big.

I ordered these for work as I work at a busy ski resort and need a decent shoe for indoor/outdoor that isn't a winter boot. They lasted 2 days before the bottom sole started to fall apart. They are extremely comfortable but continue to fall apart everyday, losing their maximum comfort.

The Olympus 5 model is a great upgrade. However, I am experiencing some of the tread peeling away after 3 weeks of use. E-mailed customer support but no answer. Need to correct this problem

While these were very comfortable, a tread clears was coming off within 7 days. Save your packaging and receipts for a while just in case.

The wide toe box, though ugly, in theory would give plenty of room for toes to spread while running up a trail. In practice the blunted toe box did all of that, however it seems at the cost of a half size and my toes were up against the tip of the shoe. Get a half size larger, replace the terrible laces and they would rieplace my Solomon Speedcrosses.

Shoes feel great and I think I will like them over time. Orange is bright...hunter orange almost. One gripe is that the shoe laces are too short. I have a narrow foot and could BARELY tie a single knot. Emailed customer service at Alta twice and was blown off. They even told me that their shoes were compatible with any aftermarket laces (they must have thought I was too dumb to know that...). For $180, I should be able to tie the darn things... Zappos was great. Shipped and arrived fast.

My friend and I each both wore new Olympus 5's for a week of running in rocky trails of MT. Chunks of treads were tearing off in less than 150 miles. Would recommend but knowing durability is lacking.

First pair of Altra's I have purchased. Loved the wide toe box feeling. Everything was going until I notice the tread peeling up with under 75 miles of trails on these. I ignored all the other reviews about the tread peeling figuring it was a one off. Unfortunately can't justify the price for getting less than 75 miles out of these.

I don't know who wants trail runners where less than half of the sole is rubber. The debris embeds in there so easily and they don't wear well. That's insane for this price point. If I had known from the photo/description that this was the case with these, I wouldn't have ordered them in the first place. On the upside, they do benefit from the wide toe box and from massive cushioning that manages to avoid feeling like platform shoes.

Pro's: Fairly lightweight. Wide foot box. Nice cushioning under foot. Con's: I got a blister from not getting a good heel lock because laces are too short. There are foam lugs on bottom (not Vibram) that will wear off quickly. Comfortable shoes, but short laces lead to poor heel lock. Poor heal lock will lead to blisters.

Great shoe. Only problem is that my shoe came with short laces. I had to purchase new ones before I could even wear them. Pretty sad given the price point. Customer service said "buy new laces from 3rd party"

They're just alright. I keep trying different shoes to see how they compare to Lone Peaks. I guess I should just stick to the Lone Peake because nothing else even comes close.

I run about 20-30 miles weekly to stay in shape for my job. Big downgrade in quality from the Olympus 4. Glue is not holding the sole to the shoe. The Olympus 4 could take a beating and sole is still holding just fine.

Like everything about this shoe except poor heel lock on my feet. Every foot is shaped differently though so take this with a grain of salt.
