I am a female trying to find a wide enough toe box so resorting to men's shoes which are not wide enough either. I love my women's escalante 2.5 but this new version of the escalante is terrible. I figured the men's shoe would be wide enough but it is not. Please bring back the 2.5! If your foot is on the wider side don't even bother buying this new version. Please bring back the old design. I want to wear shoes that fit my feet correctly and not squish my toes together.

I really enjoyed these shoes, however the tread on the bottom (the part that kind of looks like your feet bones) began peeling away. I've tried supergluing it back together, but that only held out until I got the shoe wet again. I've used Altras for 5 years, and I'm considering switching away from them after seeing all the other complaints about the durability, and the company's recent move away from zero drop and wide toe boxes. I loved Altra because of the wide toe boxes, and zero drop, and they're making less and less models with those characteristics now. Sad to see a company go this way.

This shoe should in no way be called an Escelante because it isn't anything like the prior versions. I have had two of the prior models and absolutely loved them. I've had these for a few months hoping they would get better or I would get used to them, but they are just as bad as when I first ran in them. These shoes are much stiffer and the midsole is thicker despite what they say (a third party website supported my conclusion) so you can barely feel the ground anymore. The change in upper did what they were trying to achieve, but I personally didn't have any issue with the upper in the prior shoe and preferred the breathability. I guess we are finally seeing the impact of Altra's acquisition a few years ago, and just hope they bring back the true Escalante

It's too narrow at the top of the shoes, around the sides of the tongue where the eyelets/eyestays are. The hard part of the eyelets digs into the top of my feet. After about an hour of wearing these shoes, I get a burning and numb feeling on the top of my feet. Loosening the shoelaces doesn't help.

There are so many issues with this update, it's really tough to know where to begin. They've sew the tongue into the upper, which makes it nearly impossible to widen the fit for those of us who have larger volume feet. They've also made the shoe fit much less volume, which then makes the tongue design terrible. The length is still correct. Which means you either have to use a shoe that's too long, or deal with a narrow and tight fitting upper. This shoe has felt like butter on my feet the last several iterations, but this shoe feels stiff. It's almost like they reduced the stack height and increased the density of the midsole. I've probably used over 15 pairs of escalantes over the years, but there is really no way I can use this shoe. Gonna be a while before I buy another Altra.

Not good. Material does not stretch as all other Altra I have used. The extra foam at the bottom of shoe is so so stiff I hurt my left. It is extremely uncomfortable at the instep. This shoes does not feel like a zero drop. I have bought Altra Escalante for many years. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with Altra3.0. I used it for several weeks and the stiffness never went away my knee was hurting that I stopped running for a week to feel. Also . I run 50 to 100 miles per month and run Half Marathons with Altras but not with the Altra 3. I am now looking for a shoe similar to Altra 2.5 and before. Altra 3.0 is a BAD design and no longer fits the feel of a zero drop shoes.

I've worn all 3 generations of this shoe, and it was the worst. Wore out quick, and fell apart

The shoe is stitched closed halfway down the tongue. Ruined a great shoe trying to make it trendy. It's so tight I can't wear them and it's impossible to loosen them because they're stitched closed!

Have been a customer since early on and started with 'The One". All of the principles instilled by Golden and Brian have changed and Altra has become just another corporate sneaker brand. The Escalante's are un-wearable. Wide toe box is gone, stack height has been raised, and weight has increased. You have forgotten what made Altra great.

I have been a huge escalante fan since they first came out, but honestly each version has been getting worse since the second version. Each time the laces get shorter, the shoe gets tighter and breathes less. The lace location is also moving further up each time.

Don't buy these. These shoes use to be so comfortable but with the new "sock" feel, it feels like your foot isn't getting any circulation. Like you have multiple rubber bands wrapped around foot. I took the laces off to see if that helps. It doesn't. I am going to try the Escalante racers but after my Torin's fell apart, I think Altra has lost its magic.

The shoe has gotten thicker and more rigid over the models. I bought all the 2.5s I could before having to put the 3s back on. I'm still somehow milking a pair of 1.5s. Return to what made this company.

Was excited about these shoes, wore them 6 times. Tongues began to rip out completely. This brand doesn't stand by their product, won't replace or repair because we didn't buy from their site.

The rubber pieces glued together at the bottom of my right shoe have started to unglue. I have run maybe 10 miles at most in these shoes.

My shoes dent in really bad in the front on each shoe. Shoes are also the right size purchased from an Altra dealer. Makes the shoes feel awful in the toe box when I walk, not to mention looks awful.

This is not the shoe for you.
Have been buying escalante for 8 years. They removed the original foot shape from this shoe and now it doesn't have enough of a platform for your toes to spread out.
Torin 6 Wide is the only shoe left that meets the needs of all the original Altra fans. In addition, they made this shoe a heavy walking shoe. Not made for running.
Bring back the original foot shape. Otherwise you're going to be disrupted by any zero drop upstart.

This shoe only lasted 4 months of normal everyday use before the mesh began to tear away from the sole. When I contacted Altra they told me it was normal wear and tear. Do not recommend

Why drastically change a great shoe? Would have been much better just to make the 3.0 a new model rather than call it an Escalanate. Past few years in the Escalante-raved about it; this one has been made too narrow and is no longer on brand. Sent it back-let's hope for a return to the foot-shaped toe box- otherwise, why bother?

These new colors are so WACK. I've been running in Altras for around 10 years. Had 2 pairs of Impulses, Escalante 1, 2, and 2.5s. This is the worst selection of colors for a running shoe I have seen.

Horrible. Like with all Altras from the past 5ish yrs: super narrow. Not like Altras from ten yrs ago. No reason to buy Altras anymore, as they have abandoned and insulted their customer base by making their shoes narrow in the toes and pretending in their marketing that they're still foot-shaped.

The Escalante 3 took away everything I loved about the Escalante. Really hope the next version gets back to what made this shoe so amazing.

I bought these to replace my old Escalante 2 of the same size. Much smaller and narrower and it was much tighter than just having not broken them in. I see the general consensus is that the Altra brand being bought out by a conglomerate has radically altered the design of these shoes from their preceding versions and I will be looking into other alternatives.

The shoe felt like a posted shoe where the muscles of the foot and leg cannot be activated. The shoe just plain felt clunky I think Altra is shifting from their original mandate that made the shoes so good. This shoes feel like, something that Hoka would put out. It's find to be experimenting with some of the newer shoes(eg. carbon plate)but the core shoes like the Escalante should be minimally altered.I wore the Escalate 2.5 for the last few years 24/7 it was a really great shoe!
