Most of the time when out on the trails I prefer to wear a low breathable trail runner. When I do need some hefty to handle some off trail hiking with a bit more gear this boot is now my go to. It has enough lateral stiffness so that I'm not twisting ankles but is still light enough that I don't feel like I'm wearing a cement block on my feet. The toe box is very accommodating and wider than most other salomons I have worn. Highly recommended by this guy right here!

Got these just in time for winter hiking, and they have more than lived up to expectations. Grippy on ice and snow, but also lightweight so you don't feel like you're being bogged down by a heavy hiking boot. I have wider feet too, and these fit very comfortably, with plenty of room for double layered socks and everything. Highly recommend these bad boys for any type of terrain.

This is my first pair of Quest 4. I have been wearing them around that beautiful Pacific Northwest during the rainy weather on trails and they have kept my feet overall dry and warm. I appreciate the arch support and high ankle support. The ankle is much higher than I am used to, but it's very functional. Haven't taken them out backpacking yet, but it's a solid shoe with a a lot of stability.

Comfortable straight out of the box with no break in period these are my new favorite boots. They keep me dry and warm in the snow and are strong, stable and sturdy for long days in snowshoes, on ice, in mud and everything in between.

As it turns out, I *do* like hiking boots. I have been wearing trail runners or low-rise hiking shoes for the past 10+ years, and this is my first pair of tall hiking boots. I was mist stoked about the stability around the ankle without feeling too restrictive, as well as the roomy toe box. These boots are rugged, sturdy, and are without question the most stable-feeling steps I've taken over uneven terrain. I think there's a time and place for all different kinds of footwear, and considering how durable these are, I'm looking forward to stomping around the mountains with these for a long time to come!

I have a lot to say about these as they have been my go to backpacking boots for years! My original pair was my absolute favorite and lasted many tough miles, I'm not sure the newer versions are quite as durable. However, even for the robust nature of these boots, they are lightweight and take minimal time to break in! Great for 10+ mile days and rocky terrain. Highly recommend!

This boot is made for big adventure days. Tons of room for thick socks, solid soles for icy and snowy ascents, and extremely warm.
I used thin wool socks and had way too much room, I'd go half a size down if you like a tighter fit. Also, I have thin ankles so a smaller size would be the perfect fit.
These kept me warm and dry in high alpine conditions all day!

I needed the wide toe box and this Salomon boot seemed to be the best replacement for the mid-level model where they seemed to narrow the toe box. I need the ankle support of the mid boot...and the wider toe box. This boot is higher than the mid-level and was okay on flat ground, but on an uneven trail bruised my ankle above the ankle bone.
I'd also recommend:
Salomon has been the only boot which seem to fit my needs before they narrowed the toebox.

I love the rugged style, but had to return them since I was not up for carrying the weight of these on my feet on an upcoming trip to do the Inka Trail in Peru. They were too heavy for me.

I unfortunately ordered the wrong size, and had to re-order. The return process was very easy and simple and it was processed quickly. I honestly wish they had an exchange program so I still got the discount I originally ordered the boots for as the sale had ended when I returned the boots. Even though they were a size too big the boots felt very comfortable and sturdy for the rough terrain I normally hike. I ordered the correct size and look forward to actually trying out the durability of these boots. The quality of these boots feels super great! Make sure to measure your feet like it says in their size guide it does matter.

I have owned 4 of these boots over the years and they are the most comfortable of all the boots I own. I'm a conservation wildlife photographer and I'm in these boots practically everyday. They are very durable and stable. The soles will last for a lifetime but the waterproofing will not. This is the only downside of the boots. If you're lucky, they will stay dry for about two years. I really want to give a 5 star rating but the waterproofing needs more R&D. I'll be happy to help with that! I can definitely put them through the test. I'm not walking in streams, just high wet grass.
Salomon, keep making these boots! Just improve the waterproofing. Salomon definitely has sole!

Purchased a size 6.5, regular. These shoes run BIG! I’m usually a size 6.5, 7 depending on the shoes. I’ve only tried them on, walking around the house with a thick pair of socks. I pulled the straps with all my might and tied them as tight as possible, my feet are stable in the shoes even though they’re a bit big and I have room to spare in the front and in the back. I’m keeping them for snowy winter hiking trips, since I’m planning to double on thick wooly socks. But would recommend half a size or a size down.

I have had four different versions of this boot and I like them all. I have a very wide forefoot and short toes. They are the only boots that are wide enough for me and stiff enough for backpacking and occasional crampon use. I love the lace lock. The sizing is a bit bigger than previous versions. The only thing I don't like in this version is the strap over the middle of the boot. If they were more durable I would give them 4 stars. I go through a pair every 1.5-2 years. If only Salomon made mountaineering boots the same shape!

These boots are great. Super duper great. Purchased for 200 miles of trekking in Nepal and Bhutan during monsoon season. These boots stayed dry longer than anyone else's. The soles are extremely sturdy/durable and my feet truly never hurt despite the entire terrain being rocks. I only got blisters when the boots were soaked (can't be waterproof against treading through waterfalls). The one big drawback/design flaw is that the back lip on the heal quite literally curls up. If you are going down stairs, these get caught quite easily on the stair above you and cause either a face plant or do damage to the shoe. Not great. But that is the only complaint! These boots are the real deal!!!!

Bought the brown version of this in Dec. 2021, prod. 6/21. Fit is fantastic, I love them for my all-purpose use. I wear them all the time into town, at work (concrete), in the yard, on hikes, etc. Super comfortable, keeps my ankles stable and I never have sore feet or joints from standing or walking too much. They have been in the water some but I still try to stay out of it for the most part. The toe/ball of the sole on the right boot (right under the big toe knuckle joint) is coming apart and squeaks loudly every step I take. They don't feel wet but I tried drying it out with corn starch and seems to have worked for now but will have to stay away from water and see how long the quiet lasts. I thought it might be the tread on surfaces but it squeaks the same on carpet, grass, concrete, wood, etc. Left doesn't squeak at all but also isn't falling apart. My previous pair of Salomon boots had contagrip + gore tex + 4d chassis as well but were not the quest 4 style. I can't read the numbers on them anymore. They also fell apart in same area (both sides) but never squeaked. Weren't quite as comfortable as quest 4. I'll give these a second chance for the comfort. I wish the toe/ball area were more durable.

They went well for 2 weeks then one got a toe crack. Wet grassed caused soggy feet. Expected much better performance for the price. Now have to purchase something that is better quality.

I've been researching boots endlessly for hiking the W trek in Patagonia. This boot continuously tops the charts for a true women's backpacking boot that is best for long, multi-hike days, so I took the bait and ordered. I've never written a review in my entire life, so that may provide you with more context. First, the most annoying thing is that I had to order four sizes before getting the right size. Yes, all the reviews say to size down, but I had to size down a full size and the boot is still huge. In terms of style, the boot has a good looking style for my taste (although it looks like a giant Frankenstein boot compared to my Columbia mid hikers which are a full size bigger. )
The boot is not comfortable. At all. I've been breaking them in (approximately 20 miles walked so far on pavement, hills, outdoor stairs, with and without weighted backpack and they still feel like stiff boards of concrete block on my feet. The eyelet for the laces provides pressure and pain on my foot when the foot is in dorsiflexion (i.e., either climbing or descending)--there is plenty of room for my foot--toe box is fine, etc. so it isn't an issue of fit it is an issue of design. The other hot spot of pain is where the top part of the boot which supports ankle (which is much higher than I'm used to with a mid hiker boot) stabs my shin when going up and down. I'm hoping that all of these points of pain will diminish as the boot wears in a bit but for the money and ratings on this boot, I expected maybe some more cushion or comfort. Overall, I'm disappointed and would not recommend.

Second pair of Salomon boots that are marketed and said to be water resistant/waterproof. Heck these are goretex! And they are not waterproof. After maybe 2 weeks of wear, they've sprung multiple leaks. Especially near the arches of the feet.

The metal fittings that hold the shoe laces in place were falling out of the leather upper on arrival. Tried to put them back in, but they fell out again on first hike. Will have to use a super glue to hold them in place. For the price, we would expect to not have parts falling off the boot straight out of the box.

Unlike other, overly cushioned Salomons, these were more minimal and very stiff. Would definitely need a break in period. Also runs larger than other Salomons.

I've had these shoes for a year or so, and they do a few miles a week. They've also been on a couple of multi day hikes and I've found the comfort and support to be amazing. However, they've cracked in multiple places and are now unwearable. I wouldn't expect this from such an expensive pair of boots which have probably only done max 200-300miles, so I can't recommend these to anyone. I also know 2 other people who have had this exact problem, cracking in the same places. So, I'll be looking for some different shoes to replace these.

I bought this these boots few months ago. I used four time First time I used in Portugal and the sole of the left boot came off at the back. Second I use in Tenerife when hiking up Teide. Rest of sole was broken ( see picture). That happened only one boot. Right boot is perfect. No damage. The boots are very comfortable for me. I am disappointed because my wife use similarly boots 14 years and nothing happened.

Generally these boots tend to be reasonably good (except for one thing, I'll come to that in a minute). I do a huge amount of hiking/running across countryside which includes mud/wet terrain and rocky landscape and these boots are VERY comfortable HOWEVER there is one thing that bothers me about these boots, it seems as though the manufacturers are building in a 'fault line' along the suede edge where the boot tends to bend (near the bottom where your toes join your feet) and this seems to be the place where these boots ALWAYS eventually seem to split. On the newest pair I was looking carefully and the leather at this point looked a little thinner to me which would possibly substantiate my theory. Obviously this is just my opinion and this shouldn't be taken as a fact but it does seem odd that these boots always fail in this place. I must have owned ten or so pairs of these boots before over the years because they are so comfortable and trust me they are thrashed however they always fail in the same place, least with me.

My older designs model (old lace system) lasted me 5 years in Vancouver Ca. Hiking in British Columbia in some tough mountain hikes, Grouse Grind and beyond.
They lasted years and only degraded in the final year
The update here isn't that boot of old. I've had this unit for a year and it's been uncomfortable due to the lace system (centre brace) digging in. Breathability feels reduced and the textile where it meets the leather is already fraying. I'm now living in the UK and. Have only been walking through county lanes and grassland. How is this possible, they look worse than 6 years of wear in Canada.
Disappointed
