Outstanding service from Zappos!!
Due to the whole size only production philosphy of Doc Martens, I aimed a little low and had to return my US 11 sized Docs for a US size 12; Zappos return policy made this almost unbelievably easy. This is my first pair of Docs, and while I love the look I'm not 100% convinced of the quality. They seem to be acceptable in terms of fit and finish, just a lot lighter material than I had expected.

1460 -
Shoe is great. I have owned several of these shoes about 10 years ago and still cant get away from them. My only complaint would be the flat black ones I got might be more comfortable when they break in. The greasy ones I had in the past were more comfortable at first,

Great but need to break them in -
I too have a pair from England but these feel great. It's taking a long time to break them in but warehouse work should take care of that.

Doc Martens from China...not quite the same -
These boots are stylish and comfortable, yet do not feel like they have the same quality as the ones formerly produced in the UK. Producing these boots in China has appeared to drop the quality of the boot and its all-around fit. If you're lucky, grab a well-cared for, used pair of these boots that were produced in the UK.

Dr. Marten's -
I really enjoy the new shoes and their enhanced comfort, but I wished their sizes matched american sizes a little closer.

Look great, long break-in -
I've had several pairs of Docs, they all have long break-in times (lots of Neatsfoot Oil helps). I recommend if you wear a half-size, order the next size down (I wear a 10 1/2, but the US10 fits me pretty well. I didn't notice any difference between the English and Chinese made shoes, but I think the insole on the English ones was a little nicer...

A classic shoe and great delivery -
First of all, kudos to Zappos. Not only did they have exactly what I wanted, but they even upgraded my shipping at no charge, so I got them within two days of ordering. What a fantastic company!
As for the shoes, well, I've been wearing this style for years and they've always been durable and comfortable. The first couple of days you might want to wear a thicker sock than usual, just because it takes about two days for the top of the boot to soften, and during those two days without thicker socks I find it rubs the back of my legs, which can be a little uncomfortable. But once they're broken in, you can't find a more comfortable and classic looking boot.
The only reason it gets 4 stars overall instead of five is that they've started making them in China, rather than England. The shoe quality seems about the same, but part of Doc Marten's appeal has always been the "made in England" stamp on the sole, and without that... well, I just can't give it the same five stars I would give a "made in England" shoe.

Mark -
The design of the boots is great. Only thing is they make my feet sweat and when I wear it in winter. After a couple of hours wearing them and taking them off my feet, you can smell the nasty stink inside the boots.

I loved the boots! However, I am in between sizes for some stange reason!!! The UK 6 is too big and the UK 5 is too small!! :( I really really wanted these! :(

Alright -
I have bought Dr. Martens before. I ordered this exact model (not from Zappos this time, however) and was shocked when I read the label. Made in Thailand! I'm very disapointed. They look the same as the English manufactured models but I can feel the difference. The break-in period is lasting forever and the sole doesn't bend quite as easily. Still a good looking boot, but this particular style doesn't really go with anything.

Not what they used to be.
This is my 7th pair of Docs, and my 3rd pair of 1460's in the last year alone. Dr. Martens switched from all-UK made to being made in China, and this has had a noticeable impact on the quality of both the sole and the upper. The soles don't last like they used to. They're still worth the money, although not as much, and I have yet to find a more comfortable shoe in the long run. Zappos.com is great, by the way.

A very nice boot, although stiff at first; it has taken some time to break in. It's very sturdy and well made and should last a long time. I can't say enough about Zappos though. Free, fast and efficient; I will always order from them.

Christopher from Philipines -
I just bought my son Dr Martens boots. First time he wore it, he said it was too tough, but after a few days, it's getting good and comfortable. Now, he likes it.

A good boot.
After years of wanting a pair, this is my first set of Doc's. I've worn them about a month and they're just now starting to break in to the point that they're getting really comfortable. They do shine up nicely with some saddle soap. (A little hint from Doc Marten is to cover the yellow stitching with tape, before you polish or apply any cleaners, to keep the stitching from staining) These boots seem to be just a little bit longer than I would normally wear, but it is more an annoyance than uncomfortable. One thing that is unusual is that I have to pull the laces really tight, in order to keep my heel from slipping up in the boot. However, all in all this is a good boot and I would recommend it. It will probably be just the first of many Doc's for me!

GOOD SHOES.
I bought the 1460Z series boots with the added tread on the sole, and they're great. I wore them non-stop for almost two years, and only now are the uppers starting to wear out.

I wear a size 10 in nearly every shoe. I bought 10s but found they were way to roomy in the heels and around the ankle. My heels would lift when I walked. I couldn’t tie them tight enough. I returned them and bought 9s because there are no half sizes. The 9s fit perfect in the heel and foot bed but the toe box is way too snug across the top of my foot and very narrow. I hoped they would loosen up if I wore them for a day but no. I don’t know who could wear a shoe comfortably that fits like these. Someone with narrow toes and huge heels.

When I took these out of the box, I was so happy with them. They look great! Exactly what I wanted. They fit great BUT, the leather around the top is really hard and stiff so I found them to be too uncomfortable to wear. I had to send them back. I am ordering the Pascal Virginia and hoping they are as cute but more comfortable.

The boots were too stiff to even get my foot in without fully unlacing the laces. Super cute but I don't have the patience.

Honestly, I wanted to like them. My daughter has a pair (different style) that she loves. But these were so hard and stiff going onto my feet and the amount of time and probable discomfort to get them to be broken in just didn't seem worth the effort. I had a similar feeling about some Blundstone's I bought--still not broken in after 5 years. Anyway, I decided on a pair of Borns which went on easily and didn't need to be broken in at all. Felt great from day one.

I have broader-than-average feet for a woman, so these seemed like a good bet. However, my feet aren't larger in all directions, and while great in the width, these were too big in the height, leaving my feet feeling a little lost inside. Moreover, I have slender ankles (yes, my feet are a sight to behold!), and these didn't quite hold onto them. As Dr Martens doesn't make the style I'm hoping to replace anymore, it's back to the drawing board...

Super weird. I ordered some and hoped I could use with my custom orthotics. They came and the insole wasn’t removable. So they were too tight with my orthotic. I returned and ordered one size up and the pair that came did a have a removable insole, so now they were too big with standard insole taken out and mine installed. They also fit weird with both the insole and my orthotics so I returned both. Wish I could try the smaller size with a removable insole but there’s no telling if it would be removable or not.

I wish I could write a better review. I've worn Docs daily for over a quarter century. And in that time, as with so much in life, I've seen decline. These boots, while they have the same style and the same initial comfort, do not have anywhere remotely near the durability they once had.
Back in the 90's, I owned two pairs. One got me through high school with daily, hard wear. One got me through college. I retired each pair when the waffle simply wore out and the soles turned wholly slick. They were never retired for poor manufacture. They never fell apart. They never broke. They retained their style and charm.
Over the 2000's, though, despite my daily wear getting lighter as I got older, they wore out more and more quickly. I'm not down to each pair lasting me about 12 months of a desk job and light weekend wear while I run errands.
And all of this while the prices go up and up and up. A pair of black nappa 1460's cost me about $104 10 years ago. My latest pair (April 2018) cost me $154.
That's a 50% price increase for about a 50% durability decrease.
The typical problem I have is that layers of the sole de-laminate. They crack apart and insole padding starts slipping out. (Just this morning, a colleague and I were chatting and he mentioned the pull tag coming right out of his part; his being only about a year old.)
Decreasing quality and increasing price is, in a word, unsustainable.
I buy them out of habit, but the decline has me, sadly, looking elsewhere. It's tough to be a loyal customer--if not devotee--when you feel repeatedly screwed by poor quality. This may be my last pair of Docs.
