My son wears SMOs and has been using the Billy footwears since I stumbled upon them a number of years ago. We have NEVER had any problems with breaking zippers, seams, or any other issues with craftsmanship. Being a heel-walker, he wears through his shoes very quickly, always has, that's just a fact of life. The first thing we do when he gets a new pair is remove the insole and completely loosen the laces. Once they are fully loose, then he zips them on over his braces, and we lace it to the proper snugness and tie them. From then on he only uses the zipper. I cannot speak for those who have had issues of breaking zippers or seams, but perhaps the laces were too tight and/or pulling unevenly? What I do know is that we have used Billys for a number of years and have nothing but praises for them. They are a Godsend!!

If your child wears AFO's or any kind of bulky orthotic this is the best thing since sliced bread!! Buy them now and in different colors as I'm doing. What a gift to us special needs' parents... at 16 my son can finally get his braces AND shoes on himself. Ty Billy Shoes!!

The wide model works perfect for my some ortho leg braces!

Zipper fell apart after a month of normal school wear. One shoe would no longer stay zipped/zipper constantly slides down. These are now un-wearable. The style and color are great but I expected more than a month of wear. Sadly I will not buy this brand with zippers again.
