I bought my first one many years back. Quality was excellent. The shirt feels like lightweight cotton but has excellent wicking properties. The material is thick enough to be opaque but not heavy or stiff like 100% cotton can be. I bought one more a few years later, and I noticed that the logo was screen printed (it was embroidered on the original) but quality was otherwise largely the same. I bought several more recently, and the quality has deteriorated drastically. The shirts feel much more polyester / slick, and they are shiny like other moisture wicking brands. The material is much thinner and is partially see through. The seams arent as robust as the original two either.

The fabric is cool, but it attracts some of fluff, I like it because it has the small logo

Its a great shirt but the tag on the bottom is really hard to cut off and when I tried to pull it off it ripped the shirt which makes me think the shirt quality isnt the best.

The Thistledown Hills shirts are apparently a replacement for the Thistledown Park shirts, which I had purchased 4 of and was very satisfied with. The big difference is in the fabric materials. The Park shirts were 67% polyester and 33% cotton while the new Hills shirts are 50% each. Both are made in El Salvador. I have two of the new Hills shirts, short and long sleeve, and find the quality of construction is still as good as the old Park version. The fit of the Medium is also the same which for me (38 chest, 32 waist) is almost perfect. (I did see some advice on the Columbia website to size up because this shirt runs small. I disregarded this and am happy I did.) I measured the actual dimensions of both the Hills and Park Medium versions and they are almost the same: chest width at armpits 22, waist 21, back length 28. I also was curious about the impact of the materials difference and weighed both versions. The new short sleeve Hills shirt is 9% lighter and the long sleeve version is 5.6% lighter. Maybe the colors have some impact on these results but it seems definite that the new fabric is lighter. How this will impact long term durability is the question, I have only washed the new ones a couple of times (always colds, line dry). I am finding the comfort to be at least as good as the old version, which is great. Overall, I still like the new Thistledown shirts more than anything else I have found and as long as I buy them at the sale prices, the price is if not great, is at least reasonable. I would like to see some more natural colors though.

After a couple hours of wear, the neck seam starts itching. I don't see any other reviews with this complaint, so it must just be me. The thread and seam all look perfectly normal. I guess I will continue washing it inside out in hopes that whatever is irritating my skin will eventually wear away. That, or find some kind of iron-on ribbon to keep the seam away from me.

This shirt is lightweight, but is not lightweight in that it feels very hot and scratchy, especially where the shoulder seam is located.
