I an in New York City and this parka is great. It is perfect to withstand wind and cold weather. I only need this on top of my shirt and I am good to go. Best parts: plenty of pockets for storage, nice hood, and very comfortable pockets to warm hands. Looking forward to keeping this for a long time.

I ordered the (blue) coat online but it was one size too big so I brought it back to the store and the CSR worked hard to find one for me but there wasn't one in my size anywhere. I was told availability would be in June, UGH. Anyway, I liked the parka and will be picking up one in June.

Just an awesome Parka. Very warm, feels like quality made the first time you pick it up. The only thing that is a bit odd are the waist cinching cords. They're hidden in the breast pockets and when tightened all the way, the jacket has a bit of a weird feel in the front. Wouldnt let that deter you at all though, order the proper size and youre good to go.

I will be at Michigan Tech next year and was looking for a warm coat. The Baxter State Parka met all my expectations while I was visiting Tech. I love all the pockets.

First I would like to address the size. I am 5ft 8- 199lbs, the Lbs are in my stomach- beer belly without the beer. Many reviews say it is to large, it is large. But not supper large. It is an American Large not European. I ordered a Reg Large in this Coat. It fits fine. Xtlarge would have been to big Med to small. Now the Coat, I am in NY so it has been warm mostly. There were a few below 30 days since I received the Coat. It's made for below freezing, feels like it will stand up to anything the Winter throws at. Plenty of pockets inside and out. The Coat is well made. I hope we get some minus degree temps so I can put it to test. I have faith in the Coat not the weather but definitely the Coat.

The Baxter State Parka is very warm and crafted with high quality materials and fine stitching. For those sensitive to animal rights, the fur rough is constructed of synthetic materials. L.L. Bean Customer Service provides detailed laundering instructions not found on the garment tag. I recommend you contact Customer Service for the laundering recommendations to get the best results. I like the snaps on the coat - I think they are more durable than Velcro in the long run and will last many years as the whole Parka will.

I bought the prototype of the Baxter State Parka about 15 years ago and it is still comfy and warm; it just looks like a 15 year old Parka. I bought the new one for times I want to be comfy and warm, and look good. This new version is a significant upgrade of an excellent product.

I purchased a Baxter State Parka in January 2017 to replace a winter coat made by another company. I wanted a coat with a two way zipper, one that could unzip from the bottom, and haven't found many coats with that feature, but the Baxter State Parka has it. I'm very impressed with the parka. The fit and finish is flawless. The parka is very warm. The faux fur at the front of the hood can easily be removed and the entire hood can also be removed from the parka as well. There are many pockets on and inside the parka. The cuffs and neck are made of a very soft and warm fabric. This parka will keep me warm on Michigan's cold winter days and nights.

Coat is used to great effect in the cold Ottawa winter. Initially had problems with zipper and the coat was replaced in an efficient manner Good value for money in comparison with a well known Canadian winter coat

When I was living at 10k ft in Leadville, Co, I had the fortune to purchase my coat when it was discounted for LL Bean's end of season sales price. It is a treasure to have such a protective coat when residing in that climate. That was some years ago. This season, I was having issues with the front zipper. I called customer service and they offered to repair the coat if I would simply send it to them. It was shipped to LL Bean on 12/26/2016. I received it back on 1/6/2017 with the zipper repaired. Wow !!! This only proves that LL Bean takes care of their customers.

My husband loves this coat. He usually complains or finds some problem with every coat he owns BUT not this one. Fits him perfectly and has all the pockets he needs.

I bought this coat for my son wo is 5'7" abt 150lbs and the medium size fits him nicely. This coat runs BIG so keep that in mind if you're considering buying this. it was raining hard the other day and he got wet everywhere but under his coat. In fact I went to hang it up to dry but it was completely dry. I was so impressed by this. He wears this with a shirt and no sweater in 40-30 degree weather. I have not received any complaints yet so I think this was a great buy!

I bought this coat for my son for Christmas. He is thrilled with it. This is a direct quote from a text my 19 year old sent to me about the coat: "PS this coat is like a fortress!! Super warm and good looking ". Praise doesn't get better than that!

I have had a series of cold weather coats in the past several years that are great for hiking, snowshoeing, wearing from home to work, etc. but nothing for being stationary or only light activity in extreme cold. In fact, I would not recommend this coat as active wear because I sweat when I do that. But if you are looking for a high quality, extraordinarily warm coat, good for less strenuous or even stationary wear in cold weather, then this is your coat! I'm thinking of things like parades, ice fishing, stationary or slow hunting, standing at bus stops, etc. I have yet to be out using any more layering than a T-shirt, and it has been toasty, even in single digits! I shopped for a while prior to purchase and this coat at $250 is every bit as good as other major brands that hit nearly $1000. In addition to toasty heat, it has multiple pockets and the quality of everything about it seems to be spot on. My wife was so impressed that she purchased the women's version.

This is hands down the warmest coat I've ever owned. Love how many pockets it has too. I'm 5'8" tall and the small size fits me perfectly. Great deal IMHO -- I tried on lower quality coats that were $400+.

Received Baxter parka as gift from my wife in advance of winter 2015. 'Receive compliments from coworkers and total strangers on commuter train! Good wet wx coat, but OUTSTANDING winter parka in Chicago walking to & from train station and work. Yes, bottom exterior pockets are low and not very useful for hands, but this is a parka for which upper exterior pockets exist. Inner pockets are well-sized and well-located: I use lower inner pocket for mittens. Cinching at base and midsection are well-designed for reducing heat loss and creating snug, but not confining, fit. Removable fur trim is also well designed. The trim and removable hood is a fantastic feature. These two items combined with a high collar help to eliminate wind, sleet, snow from reaching neck, mouth and forehead. Trim creates a great see-through barrier. Minor faux pas: the cinch on either side of hood is small and difficult to release if you have fat (manly?) fingers; hint to LLBean! Cinch at hood is a minor issue in comparison to many outstanding features of this parka. This morning's temp was 13 degrees F, excluding wind chill factor. Walked tall and warm with a grin on my face. I am a short, grumpy, old f**t!

I have been looking for a parka for several weeks, looked at Thunder Cloud (Patagonia), McMurdo (North Face) and Banff (Canada Goose). All very good, when I tried them I found that I required an XL in each case because of the increased space around the waist ( I am overweight, 5 10, but 38 waist, shirt 17 32-33 sleeve). I ordered a large based on the fitting instructions and it fits very well and roomier in the middle when compared to the other manufacturers. Construction appears to be excellent, and there are ample pockets as has been described. I did find the color on the web site to be lighter than the actual item, I ordered mariner blue which I expected to be a light blue but it is significantly darker, navy would be more accurate as others have mentioned. Very pleased with the item, well made, fits me well and good value.

Can't say enough good things about this parka. I just returned from using it in the Arctic Circle in northern Finland with -8 temps and it kept me warm and dry. (I had on a long-sleeved poly t-shirt and wool sweater underneath it, but no thermal gear). This thing has so many pockets I'm not sure I found them all, and they were handy for carrying all the odds and ends that it seems you always need with you. Liked the fact that the hood zips off. As coats go it felt heavy, but in a comforting, well-made sort of way.

Pros *Warm *Durable *Comfortable and cozy *Easy access to pockets *Detachable hood and the fur liner. *Trendy on its own right. Cons *Bit baggy for me (I'm a 5'9, 180 lb athletic build and found it baggy around my waist, I wear a medium. It was hugging my sleeves tho.) *Elastic around the waist is poorly executed. (Hard to get to the nozzles which are hidden in chest pockets) *Was a bit heavy (can be good or bad the way you look at it)

I bought this jacket for walking our dog in the Cleveland, OH winters. It can get pretty chilly in OH but this jacket performs like a champ. I can throw on a long sleeve tshirt and head out with this jacket keeping me completely warm. It also has a ton of drawstrings and pockets which always come in handy. I have had it for about a month now. I am really happy with my purchase so far.
