I bought this for our now 40-year-old daughter when she was in high school. At some point, the zipper broke. I sent it back to L.L.Bean. The zipper was replaced free of charge. That was probably at least twenty years ago. She recently visited us for a weekend, packing her stuff in the same backpack that she has now had for more than *twenty* years. We got our money's worth when we purchased this for her!

My grandson chose this backpack to start middle school And the color is perfect (black). He loves it and it holds all he needs. We had purchased this pack for his big sister 3 years ago for middle school and it has moved with her into high school. Great product.

I bought this backpack for my son because he needed more space for middle school. It's great because there is a place for everything! It has two large compartments and several smaller ones. I remember having this same backpack in college and it is the same great quality as always from LL Bean.

I recently purchased my first backpack from LL Bean, even though I've been a Bean Customer forever and come from generations of Bean Customers. I am so, so impressed with the quality of the backpack. I am also impressed with how much stuff you can fit in the backpack. This backpack definitely give you a bang for your buck!

My son loves this backpack. He loves all the pockets and the padded insert to protect his laptop. He especially likes the pockets on the sides for his water bottle.

My old L L Bean backpack lasted me almost 12 years but the zippers finally were inoperative. I ordered the same model and it arrived exactly as orderd and when it was supposed to.

My son needed a new backpack going into 4th grade. He loved his previous shark one from llbean but he needed something with more room. This holds his lunch bag, school work, sweatshirt and soccer gear for after school with out being completely stuffed. It'll be great for winter gear as well. It's nice looking and much better quality than other sporty brands I've looked at. He loves it too.

My son had this backpack from high school and when the zipper broke he needed a new one. Now that he is in his second year of college, he still wanted similar backpack, color, and even monogram. The monogram is important because he's almost had his backpack stolen---twice---yes, stolen not a "mistake" once you know the details. They just wanted the backpack. Can you believe it? Being a creature of habit and comfort all we changed was the font. Apparently we aren't the only ones who wanted this backpack.

I bought this to use as a carry on for a recent trip to NYC. This was an exact replacement of my old backpack that I'd had for years, with some nice additions.
Super roomy, was able to put everything in it that I couldn't fit in my suitcase. Great quality item, recommend 100%!

We actually made a mistake and bought this deluxe backpack for our five-year-old grandson as he started kindergarten. We were going to send it back if it was too big. However, he LOVES it, especially all of the "departments" (compartments.) And although it is big, it is not too big for him to wear to school each day.

First off, I had bought a 'design your own' backpack from LL Bean about 20 years ago. It was the best backpack I have ever had. Unfortunately, the inside was breaking up, making everything in it seem dirty and I needed a new one. I have tried all sorts of other ones from Timbuktu, Under Armour, Tumi, and NorthFace. No one was the one I needed. I came back to LLBean and I am thrilled.
This model is lighter weight that the older one. But, just as good and sturdy. The shoulder harness is comfortable so carrying my laptop doesn't hurt. It has lots of room. I love it.
My only wish would be for the little mesh holder that was sewed into the shoulder harness like the older model had. It was great to stick my cellphone into that so I could always see it.

We bought one for my husband a few months ago. It's very lightweight and has many pockets for organizing for travel. I liked it so much we went and bought one for me to travel with. By the time you pack what you have to carry on a plane, you don't need extra weight as the bag- this backpack is it. Doesn't hurt me carrying it loaded at age 56 either. Change of clothes, medicine, iPad, chargers, bottle of water and small purse to start.....then add any purchases on return trip :)

No more buying a new backpack every year. My kids have had 2 LL Bean backpacks each and the only reason for the 2nd was because they outgrew the elementary school sized ones. Got them both the Delux Bookpack for middle school and have never looked back. Monogramming is such a great addition to the backpack. It is incredibly sturdy - such great quality. I highly recommend this backpack to anyone looking to stop replacing flimsy backpacks every year. My kids love them. Got them the matching lunchbox and tech tote and am very happy with those as well. Stop debating and get this backpack today!! You will be glad you did!

Love how roomy this back pack is! It's working great for my needs. I was looking for a quality adult backpack that had two separate roomy compartments to separate my lunch from my papers and computer. This is perfect!! There are two water bottle holders as well and extra compartments. It has comfortable straps. I'm very happy with it.

Our boys (7 yo twins) preciously has L.L. Bean backpacks and flip-top lunch boxes, and they were holding up great after two years of use, with the exception of one jammed zipper on one of the bags. Also, one of them lost his lunch box on the bus at the end of the year. So when they said they wanted new bags for this school year, we agreed, and I ordered new, more interesting backpacks and lunch bags from a competitor (initials L.E.) over the summer. I ordered from there, as opposed to L.L. Bean, only because they offered colored embroidery of different items (one chose planet Earth, the other Saturn) on the backpacks.
When they arrived, they felt like a much more lightweight material, and I thought, "Well, these will probably only last a year," but the kids were happy with the embroidery and colors, so we kept them. The lunchboxes were very small compared to what I was used to, but I figured we'd manage.
The night before school, I got their L.E. backpacks off the shelf in my closet where they'd been stashed, and put their empty 1" binders and six empty folders in eachwe'd brought the rest of their supplies to Open House a few days priorand hung them on the doorknobs of our front hall closet, as that's where backpacks go in our house during the school year.
The next day, we got to school and parked, and when it was time to go in, we lined up with everyone else. I looked down, and noticed that the handle at the top of one of the boys' bags was *literally* hanging on by a thread. It had almost completely detached. And I knew, from Open House, that their backpacks are hung during the day from hooks outside their classroom. In other words, a functional top handle is critical. Also, having it rip off when it was holding a backpack with *maybe* a pound of stuff in it was ridiculous.
After drop off, I fired off an email and made arrangements to return the L.E. bags and lunchboxes. The next day I sent them with their old L.L. Bean backpacks, one L.L. Bean flip-top lunchbox, and a brown paper bag for the one who lost his lunchbox last year. And I ordered new bags and lunchboxes from L.L. Bean.
The difference in quality is astounding. They will, undoubtedly, have these bags (assuming nobody loses anything) for years to come. And we will continue to use their old ones for emergencies (like if a drink spills in their school bag) and camping and travel.
