I read the reviews, bought the shoes anyway and am pleased that I did. For reference, I have a low volume, fairly narrow foot and found the shoe to be true to size in lightweight socks with other Salomon shoes. Here's the kicker though, it's not like the shoes we have grown used to where we can run a 25K+ right out of the box, without a blister. They need time to mold to your foot and keep getting better with age. After a proper break in, the shoes have a firm, secure, breathable fit. The ankle collar feels firmer and more substantial than on the S/lab Ultra 3. I use them for less technical and hybrid trails as the lugs are not aggressive. There is ample protection from rocks with moderate ground feel and they promote a mid to forefoot strike.
