Looks and fits very well. Supposed to keep warm down to 25 degrees, but falls far short. At 40 degrees and less, it feels cold, particularly in the upper chest area. Have tried for two weeks but am returning -- just doesn't do the job.

Very poor quality. I'm surprised, that for $250, LLBean would sell this item. Very cheap and flimsy. Inner sleeve lining came out of the large sleeve opening. I returned it.

The coat fits great, and is warm until about 20 degrees.
Also, once the coat gets a little wet it is useless, which was disappointing. I used it to snow blow several times, and every time it got wet it lost all the insulation quality.
The hood is great, and very functional.
I have also had it get small rips, as the shell fabric is a little weak.
I'll need to purchase another coat, but will keep this one, dealing with the limitation.
As with several other recent purchases at LLB, I feel they are compromising quality. I wish they would simply charge a little more and not cut corners, as eventually it will hurt their business.

My wife bought me this jacket for Christmas and I wore it yesterday, temp 39 with a wind chill of 25 degrees. My hands got cold in the pockets and the coat didn't provide the warmth level advertised.. I have purchased items in the past and have been extremely satisfied with them.

The fabric frayed at the bottom of the coat in many places. Poor quality of sewing or material or both. Another coat was sent. My son really likes this coat and the color. It was a little tight in the shoulders. We sent pictures with the return.
Customer service is excellent.

LL Bean blocked my first review, so I'll keep this short and sweet. This jacket looks great, and that's it. It's not as warm as they claim it is, it fits like a trash bag (like most of their other clothes, it's big and baggy all through the torso), and the sleeves are too short for the size. I have tons of other great outdoor jackets and many with less down fill than this, and they all keep me much warmer than this. There's no way this is 850 fill. I have a 700 fill and it's a thousand times warmer. I was actually starting to get a little cold when it was around 20* with some wind.
Overall, I'm disappointed with this jacket, how it fits, and how little warmth it provides. I'd like to say a lot more, but LL Bean blocked me from posting my truly honest review. I won't be shopping with LL Bean anymore, as ever time I try to buy clothes from them, they have the worst fit and horrible quality control. I've tried on over 30 different shirts, sweaters, and jackets from them over the last few years, and only a few of them fit correctly. And this jacket is no different. I should have kept my receipt for this so I could return it.

I bought the coat for my son. It is light weight and keeps him warm. We were happy about it. However, after only wearing for a week, couples of places have the tiny holes and white feather starts to come out. I don't think it gonna last a winter. This is an expensive winter jacket compare to other brands, very disappointed with the quality.

Order was canceled right before Christmas. I was guaranteed that it would come in time, kept checking my doorstep for the package, then a few days before Christmas Day I was notified that it was canceled. I called customer support and they just said "too bad, it happens sometimes". No accountability for visibility into what went wrong. Customer service was going to call around to see if any other stores had the coat, but I never heard back from them. Disappointed in one of my favorite brands. Things have definitely gone downhill lately.

My son had this coat for two winters, and it was great -- it still looks like new despite being put through its paces by a middle school boy. He grew a lot and I recently purchased him the same coat one size up. I washed the new coat a few days ago (following the laundering directions on the tag) and the insulation in half of the back has migrated to a giant clump the size of my fist. In some areas, the insulation is gone and there is nothing but the nylon shell. It was such a disappointment given our prior experience and the price paid. I've been an LL Bean customer for many years and this is my first negative experience.

Nice jacket, but I've been having ongoing issues with the feathers. They keep coming out and sticking to my inner layers, which was annoying but manageable at first. However, a feather actually poked through and made a small hole in the outer fabric of the jacket, which is really disappointing. I've only had the jacket for about a month, and now I'm worried it won't even last the season. This doesn't seem like the quality I expected.

Had this jacket for a couple of years now I loved it. It's extremely expensive but it's been the most versatile warm and lightweight jacket I've ever owned in my life. The washing instructions say you can wash it in a washing machine on cold water with like colors, but when I did the down in the one arm completely separated and fell out of place and matted up in balls in a couple different areas of the arm. Basically the jacket is ruined and will not look right when I wear it and I'm extremely disappointed about this never spent so much money on a coat in my life and to take good care of it and adhere to the washing instructions inside the label and the jacket just basically did not wash right and is ruined.

This coat is way too thin and cold. It is greatly overpriced for what you get. Is it a poor quality and DO NOT would not recommend it at all. I returned it because it was a waste of money.

It's much more cool looking than it is warm. For the price it should be much warmer. Very thin and the wind blows right through it. Very disappointed. The fit is almost perfect though. 850 down doesn't mean diddly squat when there isn't enough of it. 850 fill power means that one ounce of down expands to fill 850 cubic inches but what good is it if you only used one ounce (for example) to fill an entire jacket.
[I bought a $50 puffer jacket (from a brand that actually sells protein as their main thing) and it was at least twice as warm as this. ]
As for this one I used it to walk from my car to the store (and back), grilling outside for a few minutes, and attempting to use a self service propane tank exchange (that wasn't working so I had to stand out there even longer). I think my cotton hoodie would is warmer.
I must disclose that the temperature is 33 degrees F and wind chill brings it down to 21 degrees F. But if the website would have actual temperature tolerances for their jackets (instead of a little dial that says warm, warmer, warmest) maybe I wouldn't be surprised.
I've been eyeing this jacker for about a year now before buying it. It looks just as good as in the pictures. I got the carbon navy one. I guess one pro is that when wearing it inside, you're not burning up.

Good Morning - while I was initially pleased with my purchase - just in the last few days I've found a few 'pin holes' in the outer shell that are allowing down to escape. I've only worn the jacket lightly and now I'm afraid the hole will only get worse and bigger.

The jacket was too large so I returned and ordered a small which showed up in a few days. The return is where my problems began. I returned the item on 10/14 from a UPS store. I got email notification it was received 10/22 and then nothing. I called to find out the status of credit and was told I was mailed a gift card to the location where the jacket was mailed. This was at a vacation home to an unmanned mailbox that I would not return to until after Jan 1. I paid for both the med & small on my AmEx card and asked for a credit to that card. I was told once the card was mailed that was all they could do. After more than an hour and 2 chats (the first person a Kevin was unhelpful) I got someone to help me. Now it has been 3 days since they said they would issue the credit to my AmEx and still no credit. I expect at some point it will show up but for now it's not been a great experience. As for the jacket, waiting for cold weather to wear.

The jacket was plenty warm for two seasons. The outer shell is falling apart and the insulation is leaking.

I have one of these coats without a hood so I though I would add one with a hood. I have done a lot of travel and these coats are perfect. light weight and very warm. I love the zippered pocket in front to hold tickets, my phone or sunglasses. I would highly recommend this coat.

This jacket fit beautifully, and if a better quality of fabric had been used for its exterior, it would have been a keeper. However, the fabric was SO thin that the down feathers used as the jacket filling actually showed through the jacket fabric! This resulted in the entire jacket appearing to be covered with stains wherever the down feathers were brown. The front, back, sleeves, hood - everywhere - looked very dirty. This might be why jackets of this color and a yellowish gold color were on sale. It seriously appears to have small oily stains dotting the exterior of the jacket. How could this be missed during production? The picture doesn't do the problem justice. If you are looking for a well-fitting beautiful red jacket that appears to have been worn while dropping cold meat into hot grease, then this is the jacket for you. It's going back to LLBean pronto, and I won't be ordering a darker color that might hide the brown of the feathers. Interestingly enough, the darker colored jackets in this style are MUCH more expensive. besides, the cost of the jacket is WAY too high to have filmy fabric of this poor quality. I'm not a happy camper since a construction issue such as this should have been caught and rectified before this jacket ever came in contact with consumers. The fabric is just not appropriate for being used in the construction of jackets; for dresses, maybe, but not for down-filled coats. Forget about ordering this one!

I bought this jacket less than a year ago and at first was thrilled with the performance. However, the stitching by the arm pit came apart (manufacturer issue). Instead of standing by their product, LL Bean customer service tried to make me pay the difference to get a replacement (there was a price increase) When they finally decided to honor the price I paid my size/color was out of stock and not available until next season. I'd suggest considering the following before purchasing: The quality control. This is a major issue as mine didn't last a year. Second, consider that you may not be able to get a replacement and be offered a replacement that is unsatisfactory to you.
