I purchased two of these rain jackets, one for my wife and one for myself. We took them to Alaska. The jackets fit well but I would not call them rain proof. We wore them in Denali almost every day and on one occasion during a persistent but not torrential rain our shirts were wet/damp from the water.

I typically don't return items with LL Bean very often as they are of high quality and excellent functionality. This Trail Model rain jacket fell short, though.
I purchased this specifically because of the note online that it stores in its own pocket. I had expected a similar stowaway pocket as for the Primaloft jackets and vests I purchased recently, and which is an excellent option. But in this case it does not exist!
Maybe you can somehow push the jacket into one of those three, rather flimsy net pockets, but I did not dare for fear of ripping them as I knew I would return this item. I had purchased this to take along on my hiking trips. A neat and tidy storage option, as in the case of the aforementioned Primaloft jackets, would have been ideal. I take one of those along on my hiking trips to cool mountain tops, and they store compactly in my hiking pack, where space is always at a premium. I had expected something similar for this Trail Model rain jacket, especially at this price point of nearly $100, but unfortunately not so. Just folding up a rain jacket, it quickly comes undone as you reach for other stuff and generates clutter, need to repack repeatedly, etc.
Note to LLBean: please consider incorporating the Primaloft stowaway pocket feature in your Trail Model rain jackets as well, and you have a winner! Plus another buyer.
On the sizing: at 5'11" and 170 pounds, the size L was quite baggy on me, even with layering like a sweater underneath. I would likely recommend a size Medium instead.

I purchased a shaped fit, not a classic fit. Jacket fits poorly. Don't order unless you want a looser fitting jacket. This is not what I ordered. Disappointed

As a simple lightweight breathable rain jacket this is worth the money. HOWEVER, had LL Bean choose to more wisely provide DOUBLE ZIPPERS (too and bottom) this would have provided better ventilation and increased comfort when seated - as when driving. In addition, to limit production cost, Bean chose to make the jacket too short so the lower hip area isn't adequately covered. In addition, deeper pockets are needed with some zippered. These changes would have raised cost incrementally but would have made the jacket excellent instead of just fair.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but ever since I got this jacket it has not been fully waterproof. I wear it in the pouring rain while i bike during the summer or when im commuting to work and my clothes underneath are soaked. i love this jacket and i have a lot of llbean stuff that never fails me but this one just didn't work out like I wanted it too. i still wear it but i have to be okay with being a bit wet after lol

A nice jacket but sleeves too short for my 6'4" husband despite ordering the tall size.

I bought this as a true rain coat, but found that rain penetrated the outer fabric after 20 minutes of being in a rain situation.

I bought the XL Tall. It's a nice light weight rain jacket. But the sleeves are not very long for a tall size. I'm 6'5" and they are fine if I'm just standing still with my arms at my sides but if I'm moving around or if I reach for anything, like my handle bars on my bicycle, they ride up a lot.

I was disappointed with the men's trail model rain jacket. The velcro on the front zipper is a pain when opening and closing the jacket. And for what purpose? The hood is over sized and the velcro piece on the outside of the hood is pointless. Plus the inside lining color I feel should be the color of the jacket. I would like to return the jacket.

For some reason they have the sleeve velcro in a place that makes no sense for the size. I bought a small and maybe 1-2 mm overlaps when I close the velcro. Someone with a small frame isn't going to have massive size xl wrists. Put some more thought into your products. Now I have to pay extra to have it fixed.

Product seemed fine but was too small for me. My fault - not the products.
My disappointment came from the "free" return policy which involved choosing between paying $6.50 for UPS or driving 20 miles to a LL Bean retail outlet in a mall that charges $5.00 for parking.
Going forward I will shop with online retailers that truly offer free returns.

6'6", 250#, Tall 2XL. The sleeve length is fine, but the body feels like an athletic fit vs a regular fit that's more appropriate for a raincoat. In all fairness, the description says it's fitted. So if you missed that, there it is.
The description also says that it falls below hip, which is not accurate. The waist sits about even with my belt and that's the deal killer.

I could have gotten something similar at Costco for a lot less money

When I finally got my jacket in the mail, I couldn't believe how lightweight and flimsy it was. So I tried it on and knew right away it was a return. I've always been a perfect medium. I had to be very careful taking it off I didn't want to rip the seams apart. I was very disappointed, and I thought LL. Bean was an American-made product. This was my second attempt at trying to buy that perfect rain jacket. I'm not too sure I'll be doing this again.

I have owned three of these jackets and have had the same problem with all of the them . After a few years the liner gets brittle and starts to fall off.

Nice & lightweight... However, having only worn this jacket a dozen times at most, and only zipped it up 3-4 times, the zipper snagging on inside liner of zipper (placket), I'm going to return it for replacement. Poor design and/or construction. Frustrating.

Lacks liner, feels like wearing a vinyl tent. Bought as a morning jacket for chilly spring and fall mornings, but lack of liner makes it chilly.

The cut of these jackets is very narrow. It definitely is NOT made for men with broad shoulders or more muscular chests. Tried sizing up but this was a consistent problem.

Was looking for a spring/fall jacket with a hood to replace one I had for over 20 years. Jacket looks great, fits me well, and keeps me dry in the light rain. My issue is with its (lack of a) liner. As a warmer weather jacket its not designed for colder temps which is fine, but without the liner its like wearing a nylon tent. The material gets cold and sticks to your bare skin if you're not wearing long sleeves underneath. Since my area of the country tends to have cool mornings and warmer afternoons in the spring, it makes this jacket less than ideal. A thin liner would have been easy to incorporate and it suffers without. I doubt I'll keep this one 20 years and I wouldnt buy it again.

I returned almost immediately after I put it on. I love my L.L. Bean but this rain coat is not it. The front zipper catches on the overlapping water proofing, the sizing runs big, and the jacket felt like the seams on the liner would come unglued after one wash. Would it keep water out? Probably. But getting the jacket on would be annoying every time, and I had no confidence in its durability given the quality. Give me their shirts and sweatshirts every day.

I'm 5'10, 170 lbs, and have always been very satisfied with the fit of Bean's size large outergarments. Not this time. The cut is tight, the sleeves narrow, and its not suitable for layering. Very disappointed!

My husband wanted to replace an old LL Bean jacket, which is both incredibly warm and lightweight. It traveled well and could easily fit in a suitcase without taking up too much room. Unfortunately, the Men's Trail Model Rain Jacket did not fit the bill. This jacket fit him poorly, and he felt that it was not an adequate replacement for his old jacket, which LL Bean is no longer making. Alas, we shipped it back today.

I ordered this Rainjacket to replace the LL Bean Rain Jacket I bought 15 years ago size large ( interior frabic fraying) This Rain Jacket size Large is not as large as my 15 year old one. When I compared one to the other. It is smaller and not as roomy. I am size male 42 and all my clothes are compatible with that size. I am sorry I am going to return this Jacket. Some one Skimped on the styling of this Rain Jacket. Shame

This raincoat has less features than previous versions and even though I bought the same size it came in smaller than the previous raincoat, and this after I waited 2 months for it to come in
