I have had LL Bean Parkas all my life. I bought two down parkas on special 40 years ago, and they are still doing a great job of keeping me warm, albeit a little worn around the edges. Finally I treated myself to this new parka this winter. It is fantastic. Just as warm, but lighter and breathes better, better hood, better pockets. Bravo LL Bean for the continuing pursuit of excellence. Sorry - at 71 it doesn't look like I will need to buy any more parkas, but then, there are a lot of other items in the catalog.

Perfect fit! You probably should enclose instructions on putting on the hood. The reason I returned the previous jacket was that had arrived with the hood removed (I believe it was packaged in the side pocket) and when I went to attach it, the snap and velcro connections had nothing to mate to_ I didn't realize that they were under the chin portion of the collar. The new jacket came with the hood attached I figured it out after detaching the hood. I wonder if you had many returns for the same reason.

I've had this jacket for 10 years now. I have lived in Lake Tahoe for 4 years, previously lived in a mountain community in Southern California (Lake Arrowhead). Prior to moving to Tahoe I made 27 visits over 6 winters. I love cold weather! This jacket has never failed to keep me entirely warm, and typically I wear it while it is blizzarding outside, usually running my snow blower while a raging storm is going on. The coat has several great features, including: plenty of pockets, eyeglass or goggle cleaning wipe atrached, adaptable to a wide range of cold temperatures, with the 2 elastic draw-cords (at the waist and at the bottom hem) internal sleeve elastic cuff and external velcro sleeve closure, detachable hood, zipper flap. I've worn it at 45 degrees and as low as 0 (and all stages of raging blizzard conditions). I've never been cold and never been too warm, and never had water penetrate. I've been an LL Bean customer about 45 years and have purchased a few thousand dollars worth of clothing and footwear. This jacket is the very best piece of clothing I've purchased from them. Additionally, it ia a tremendous value for what it is and what it costs. At twice the price I'd still recommend it

Stands up to harsh South Dakota winters! Second purchase of this particular coat as I wore the zipper out in the first one (after a couple years use).

A great winter parka I'm between a large & extra large. The large was perfect even enough room for layering! I highly recommend this Parka!! Excellent quality! You will definitely not be disappointed.

Super warm and heavy jacket. Just what I need here in the Northland of Wisconsin. Very good quality and lots of nice features. The longer length is just what I wanted. I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone who wants to stay warm in the coldest weather!

Another well made jacket from LLBeam. Great jacket for wearing while "working out" outdoors, because it can be washed regularly, without destroying the integrity of the structure.

I was a little apprehensive about purchasing a coat without seeing and trying it on, but I decided to go ahead and order it.
I was not disappointed, it fit perfectly and keeps me nice and warm. The quality of the coat is great and I expect it to last me several years.
If you need a nice coat to keep you warm I recommend this coat.

If I saw this in a store, I probably would not have bought it. It looks and feels way too thin to be able to keep me warm. I ordered it online from LLBean, so when it arrived, I had to give it a try. I have about a 10 minute walk to work, and this time of year it is often 0 Fahrenheit, or colder. Wearing a cotton work shirt and fleece pullover under this jacket, I am plenty warm. I have not yet had a chance to try it with temperatures below -10.
At 0 or below, if I'm outside, I am walking, or shoveling snow. I don't think this jacket would work as well if I were just sitting around and not being active.
I ordered 1 size up so I could layer underneath, plus I don't like to admit that maybe I'm getting too wide for my size :).
Overall I am happy with this jacket. It replaced a much heavier and bulkier LLBean jacket that I had been using for over 30 years. I think the older one (looks similar to the Baxter model) is warmer, but this Rugged Ridge is sufficiently warm for my needs. I would definitely recommend this jacket.

It's a keeper. Slim fit with not a lot of room for bulky layers. Good thing because it doesn't take a lot of layers to stay warm, very warm.

Son's been wearing since ~12/25, very happy with fit, warmth, features. A bit on the roomy side, which is a plus for layering any outerwear for winter-- obviously.

Beautiful fit and very warm jacket. Very happy with purchase. I did not want a jacket that was "full of stuffing" and made me look like the Pillsbury Doughboy, and this jacket was just want I wanted. Very durable outside material and will do much better with minor rips or tears.

I haven't had harsh enough weather to put this jacket through its paces but I was warm the times I have worn it. It fits slightly large on me but that's ok because the extra space allows for layering. I hope the elastic on the inside pockets doesn't degrade and get saggy over time. It would be nice to see some double stitching as well.
