The Moab 3 is the 25th pair of Merrell shoes I have bought over the last 15 years. They are the best hiking shoe of all of them. I use them on rocky trail hikes in AZ 3-4 a week and LOVE them. Great fit and tough quality so far. I exclusively wear Merrell for almost all occasions other than formal events.

I have tried other companies but their boots are not as comfortable. I where it my last pair so I got these before our trip to Acadia National Park.

These are great out of the box. No break in period needed. They vent well to help keep the feet cooler and drier, being in Arizona, this is an important feature. Traction feels good and support is a big plus. Very glad I got these.

Retracting my previous review and leaving design feedback. The Moab 3's midsole foam is much stiffer compared to my Moab 2s. This is the foam that the ball of your feet rests on. After a day in the 3's, the balls of my feet are screaming in pain, and it feels like the balls of my feet are standing on a bump. I never had this problem with the 2s, and could walk for miles. The 2d break in within a day and last for years. These, they break my feet instead. I had to go back to an older pair of 2s. Perhaps it's possible merrel also changed the footbed shape of the 3s? Either way, can't stand it. Silently hoping Merrell uses the 3's upper and the 2's lower on the Moab 4.

Better than the MOAB 2. Ive been a huge fan of the MOABs for a long time. The biggest change is how much more grip the MOAB 3s have over the 2s

Light and comfortable with rugged design and build. I bought them for a trip to Scotland where I needed an excellent all-around show for exploring urban and countryside, castles, and the Isle of Skye. Wish I had gotten the waterproof version, but I think these will be fine even in wet Scotland.

Shoe is very comfortable. Basically no break in time. Very stable on uneven ground. Great breathability. However on day 5 the part of the outsole that wraps up in front of the toe started coming loose on both boots. My money was refunded and they didn't request the shoes back. I tried to glue them but it only lasted a couple days. May have to just cut the flap off.

(This is my third review of these shoes posted here, so i'm splitting my review stars to keep it fair.) I had pain in the ball of my feet after wearing moab 3's for a day, and originally figured that it was the stiffness of the rubber foam in the moab 3 that was causing this issue. This is partly the case, but to test this I wore an old, unworn moab 2 on my left foot and a moab 3 on my right foot for a day to see what might be the cause of the pain. After a few hours of doing this, i realized that the moab 3's footbed in the forefoot feels thicker, and I think this might contribute to the feeling that the balls of my feet are "rest on a big bump" and the reason why there's more pressure on the balls of my feet with the moab 3's. If the moab 3 had the inner shape of the moab 2, the slightly firmer foam might not be a problem.

Recently fractured my neck at C2 so have not had an opportunity to hike with my Moab 3s. But why would I treat them any different than my Moab 1 & 2 which saw me through countless state and national parks.

To whom it may concern, I have been a loyal Merrell customer since my first outward bound trip in 1991. Since that time I have bought only Merrell hiking shoes via REI, or over the last decade via Amazon. Due to my loyalty to Merrell- I decided to buy directly from Merrell so that they could enjoy 100% of my direct payment as a thank you for being a part of my 30 plus year hiking journey. This turned out to be a bad decision. Though I purchased the shoes on May 24th. I received a confirmation email of purchase on May 25th, and a delivery date of June 4th. Based on that information, I booked my trip to Joshua Tree for a 3 day hike to begin on June 5. Needless to say the shoes never arrived on June 4th and I was forced to go to REI and purchase another pair of hiking shoes in order to make my hiking trip. The purchase of a product in the US from May 24th and not delivered until June 4th is long enough - but when it looked like the shoes were going to be late (per the stalled activity on the fed ex app). I made 2 calls to customer service. The first call on June 3rd was terrible as the customer service rep said being latewas normal and was more concerned about correcting me than trying to find my shoes. Needless to say it was worse than zero help. I called again on June 5th and that call, though just as disappointing, the 2nd customer service rep was kind, empathetic, and offered as much help as she could and explained the best course of action with Fed ex, your 3rd party curriers, and the hand off to USPS. And ultimately how to call fed ex and expedite. She was great and I really appreciated her kind words during an unfortunate situation. If the 2nd customer service rep hadnt told me how to get fed ex to expedite and skip the 3rd party currier to USPS and finish delivery themselves. The shoes would have arrived evan later. BUT STILL AFTER THE ORIGINAL DELIVERY DATE. I know it doesnt matter to Merrell and frankly, I have never in my life sent in a complaint letter/email - but ordering from you directly was a terrible experience on all fronts. From the unnecessarily 5 days to ship from purchase date, 3 party delivery system, a non helpful first customer service rep- to being forced to buy different shoes at REI b/c Merrell cant send product when they say they will. At this point, I will be retuning the Merrells to you, and due to the situation you put me in, purchased the TOPO Traverse hiking shoe- And at this moment, due to this poor experience (I kick myself because all I had to do was go to REI and walk out with my shoes as I had for over 30 years) instead I relinquished immediate gratification - out of a sense of loyalty. But was rewarded with an unnecessary 2week wait and bad service. I will be buying Topo hiking shoes from now on. I know that might sound petty ( though Topos are amazing shoes) But if your customer service and shipping werent so bad in this case - I would have never tried ion another hiking shoe and you would have never lost a customer of 33 years. If you would like to respond - Im open to hearing you. Rich

Initially ordered the wrong size. Hassle free exchange. These shoes are like pillows on my feet. There has not been a breaking in process, they are amazing. Great support and traction. Perfect for what I need. I will be ordering a second pair soon, one for work, one for everything else. Source - I live in Moab!

I enjoyed many pairs of Moab 2 but since they seemed to be replaced by the Moab 3 I figured I had to get them as well. Overall it's the same shoe minus the heel cup being more loose and maybe smaller so that is doesn't stay on my foot in the back even with longer/thicker socks.
I'd also recommend:
Keen and Oboz
