I have bought many LL Bean shirts and my husband loves them. For some reason this one didn't measure up. My husband tried on the shirt and was so pleased because it fit beautifully. After it was washed (cold water) and dried (gentle cycle) the shirt is too small. I will be returning it. Unfortunately, I don't think that going to a larger size will work. It would be too large. But we will see.
I WOULD recommend all LL Bean products to everyone but be very careful of the sizing. This is the first time this has happened to us. They make beautiful products.

This shirt arrived today and immediately I could tell it was massive. It was baggy all over, and the bottom of the shirt reached close to my knees. It was sized like a medium/large for many other brands.
I can deal with bagginess, but the length of the shirt was unreasonable. This is the first "small" I've ordered that is so out of proportion.

I bought a blue and grey in M. The blue is perfect. The grey is at least an XLG
I was charged to return it. Will not but again from LL BEAN

Product was nice, but fit was terrible. I ordered XL, but it fit like XXL+. May be was mismarked; I do not know. I had ordered other chamois shirts before which fit true to their XL sizing.

Purchased in the Chamois color. Washed twice on cool, gentle cycle and dried on very low heat dryer. Pulled out while still a bit damp and hung to finish drying. Shirt looks like it should be thrown out. Fabric faded, pilled. Looks absolutely awful. The LL Bean quality I used to be able to depend on is gone. The old chamois shirts wore like iron man and lasted a few years even with frequent wear. Those days are gone.

Way oversized. Can't fit in a medium, it almost drapes down to my knees and if I size down to a small its too tight around the chest. One of my favorite shirts but now the sizing has changed drastically.

In addition to this shirt, I purchased three other shirts in size large (regular fit except one slightly fitted). To varying degrees, every one of them was too large in the shoulders or sleeve length or both. I compared them to previously purchased Bean shirts size large that fit perfectly. Made in different countries. I've had very good experience with online clothing purchases from Bean in past. I'm returning all of these.

I really wanted to love this shirt. It is so soft, and so well made, but it is just HUGE! I bought an XL Tall for my boyfriend who is 6'3" and weighs about 220. This shirt could have held him and another person! Even at 6'3" it was way too long for him, including the sleeves. He is in the UK, so rather than return it, he donated it. $60 (plus shipping to UK) gone. I then ordered him a Large Tall, thinking going smaller both ways might work. Nope. It may not be too long (not sure as I haven't sent it to him), but it is still way too big around. I'm just going to return this. I am so disappointed! It is a beautiful shirt, but it's just too expensive (and annoying) to fiddle around trying to find the right size.

Love the durable fabric and construction, but the shirt is laughably enormous. In most shirts I wear an XL, or a Large Tall. I ordered a Medium Tall in this shirt and it is not only VERY long, but also has room for another person to fit inside. I was literally able to button this shirt up with my 1-year-old underneath.

So I ordered Large/Tall for the sleeve length. Received a Chamois Mumu, sleeve length was good though. Donated to local Goodwill. Reordered, Medium/Tall, still way too long, worse the sleeves are drawing up after each wash/dry. As of now sleeves are like a Regular. Disappointed, 7 shirts at $60.00 each ain't chickenfeed.

This could be a nice shirt I guess but it's sized 2 to 3 sizes too big. I bought 2 other bean button down shirts for my dad and this. All size large. He has old versions of this shirt in a large. Perfect fit. Order a large this time and it's about the size of a 2xl. I thought maybe I got a defect but went all the way to the store to see bc I was afraid to order down online in case it was missized and nope..All way too big. Then had to stand in an hour long line to fix.

I wanted to wear this shirt, but the sleeves extended to the middle of my hand, so I returned it. Except for this one, the LL Bean medium shirt fits me well. Otherwise, I would have bought several. LL Bean has the niche on this great shirt. I will try again next year.

The material is lovely and warm. The cut is possibly the worst I've ever worn. There is legitimately about one foot of extra material past the last button, making this fit like a dress. Tucked in, there is still an absurd amount of extra material. I ordered a size small and I'm 5'9, 160lbs. No matter what I do, I end up looking like a little kid in this chamois shirt and will be definitely be returning it unless I get some reassurance that it shrinks a decent amount after a wash-dry cycle. I have other traditional fit size small products from LL Bean and they fit really well, so this is especially disappointing for me.

If this shirt is as good as the one I've had since the eighties, it's a great shirt. But after 30 years it's time for a new one. I can't order the 14 1/2 as before so the size chart says Medium is for chest size 38-40. Perfect. But the Traditional Medium I received, by my ruler, is 46" in the chest and extends half way to my knees (I'm 5' 8"). As one other reviewer so eloquently said, and I wish I'd read earlier, clown like too big. So much too big that I don't trust the Small would fit either and I don't relish paying return shipping twice to find out. I guess this shirt is no longer for average sized people.

I have been buying and wearing this same shirt for over 40 years; so it never occurred to me to read the reviews prior to placing an order for another one.
Receiving a new shirt in medium, I immediately found that it was "way over-sized" it fit like I had an X-Large on?
Upon calling customer service I was informed that LL Bean has in fact changed the sizing; so I asked why in the world would you "fix" something that was not broken!
CS rep told me the targeted market was "college students" who in fact want an over -sized shirt to wear as a jacket.. well I for one say let the college students shop at Abercrombie & American Eagle.
I was not the first to complain about sizing - due to this LL Bean will be going back to the "original sizing" but the "new" stock won't be available until the first of the year??
So as a business decision :Why not release it now -in original sizing, and also list a shirt as being "over-sized" for those wanting to wear a tent!
Makes perfect sense to me.

I'm 6'4 190 lbs. and I ordered a Large Tall. Big mistake! This thing is massive. It's clown-like huge. It's a cool shirt otherwise but I've never seen such a discrepancy in sizing. Going to try the Medium which I've never been able to fit into...but maybe with this shirt it'll be perfect.

I've been buying these shirts for 5 years now and this is the first time I've had such a bad experience. In the past I've always ordered size M-Tall which always fit perfectly. This time around I purchased 2 of these shirts in the exact same size (M-Tall) yet when they arrived one was 4 inches longer at the bottom and 2.5 inches longer in the sleeves compared to the other. On top of that the smaller shirt was already bigger than any of the shirts I had received in the past. I checked the sizing chart that l.l.bean provides and the larger shirt's dimensions lined up with an X-Large Tall. I ended up returning that shirt and having the other custom tailored to fit me. I do love these shirts, but can't recommend how l.l.bean has recently been manufacturing / distributing them. Fix this please!!

The switch from the original sizing to traditional fit has dramatically changed the size. Before traditional fit was introduced, a regular size medium would fit perfectly, now it is extremely over-sized. If I size down to a small the chest is too tight. Very disappointing because this was one of my favorite styles of shirts. Please bring back the original sizes from 2014.

Been buying this item for over ten years. Suddenly the large, traditional fit sleeves are 4 inches longer. The new chest to sleeve size options make no sense. Unwearable. Disappointed. Have to look elsewhere :-(

The order said size medium, the label in the shirt said size medium, but when I inquired I was told it was large on purpose, an "over-shirt" or something like that. I thought washing the shirt might bring take the stiffness out and make it fit better-nope, still too big. L.L. Bean did offer to take the shirt back, even after I washed it and they would send me back a small. Personally, I am uncomfortable returning items after wear or washing. Yeah, it's silly. I will keep the shirt, and as I told the company, "I will wear it in the evenings on the beach at the bonfire this summer." By the way, it is a very nice looking shirt, it's well made, and feels sturdy-I'm just sorry I can't use it as my go-to over a colored T-shirt, at 73 years-old I don't want to look like I borrowed big brother's shirt.

I have purchased this shirt for a few years now, and never had any problems until this year.
WHAT has happened to the quality of your chamois shirts L.L.Bean Company???
I ordered two, small, regular, forest green shirts. The sleeves on the first one were 2" longer than the shirts I had in the past, and the other "identical" shirt had sleeves that were 4" longer!!! The smell of the fabric from the first shirt was toxic smelling as well.
Until you bring the manufacture of these shirts BACK to the United States L.L.Bean Company, you've definitely lost me as a customer. Adios.

I have purchased this shirt previously and always fit. The last 2 purchases I had to return the shirts because the sleeves were too long. The shirt material is great . a heavy flannel. I don't know why the sleeves are so long. I order the same size . Very disappointed. Maybe if it was made in the great U.S.A. The sleeves would be the correct size.

As many others have noted, LL Bean has messed up the sizing royally. I have over the years bought several Bean chamois shirts, my favorites, all in size Medium. They fit perfectly. I received a Medium for Christmas and it fits like a tent -- the sleeves extend over my knuckles and a large pillow would fit under my stomach. Will try a Small, but not optimistic. Please bring back the normal sizing.

I have been a loyal Bean customer for decades.I have been wearing the chamois shirts for over 40 years. I have worn my last chamois color shirt to rag status, my wife won't let me wear it anymore...I have had all colors over the years. So this year I received an new chamois and indigo for Christmas. Size large, as usual over the past 25 years. I am so disappointed in the huge difference there is in the sizing. The sleeves fell down to my finger tips, the shirt tail fell to mid thigh, and I could smuggle a quarter keg in the body. I have several large that are in good shape and they fit excellent. I brought the large back and exchanged for medium. They are tight through the chest and fit OK in the sleeve and tail. Please, please bring back the original sizing. I do NOT want to change brands, but replacements may need to come from, heaven forbid, a competitor....by the way, finding a nickname that is accepted is frustrating....

The new sizing that LL bean is now using varies way too much. I'm 5'9" 160 lbs and with every other clothing company I wear a size L. I can wear a medium traditional fit t-shirt but with the Chamois shirts they are way oversized its way to baggy at the waist. If I wear a small chamois shirt its too tight in the chest. Please go back to the original sizes they fit much better.
