I bought this for a few reasons: 1) running, 2) biking, and 3) around town in shoulder seasons. The material is extremely light and it compresses down nicely to the size of a 500 ml Nalgene. A stuff sack could probably make it even smaller. But for the purposes I've intendedquick emergency rain gearI expect it to work exceptionally at shedding water and breathability given the thinness of the material and the fact it is Goretex. I would not subject this to anything harsh as it would likely become easily damaged or worse, rip. But for low key activities or aerobic ones where no bushwhacking is required it fits the bill nicely. One concern, albeit a small one, is that the inside of the hood is made of a non-adjustable elastic band around the cheek. I suspect that overtime the compressional force of the elastic, which is needed to cinch the hood tightly to the face, would likely stretch out. It's something to be aware of but it's not exactly deal breaker. The small fits trim on me (5'7" 158 lbs size 38 S in a suit). You could stuff an ATOM LT in there with little difficulty but beyond that you're taking a chance, especially since the underarm gusset tends to run a bit closer than what you might expect from, say, a Beta LT. Also, some folks complained about the pocket! I find this to be very useful for a stashing my house keys and credit cards or GU gels. Moreover, this jacket has a drawcord hem at the waist line to seal out the elements. It's the primary reason I settled on this model as opposed to the newer Norvan Shell Jacket which does not have this feature. Overall, I'm excited about this jackets many uses and consider a great addition to my collection. As with all things Arc'teryx, there's considerable attention to detail and a commitment to creating pieces that consider the intended use in both form and function.

I have used a number of jackets designed to keep you dry while running in wet conditions. Most have more in common with a plastic bag than a jacket. The Norvan LT kept me dry but didn't get overly steamy. The only improvement I would have made is pit zips for when I am really pushing it.
The fit is great for me at an XL, which is a nice surprise considering most jackets at XL feel baggy.
I have run in it only once, but I have also started using it as an everyday carry rain jacket. Stuffs into my bag easily and weighs nothing.

Love running in the rain and running the the Norvan makes it more enjoyable!
Light enough and waterproof, nothing wrong with some style while running. Went a size up, usually wear size L but size XL fits

First of all, I'm an Ultra Trail Runner from the Bernese Alps and had tons of Jackets in my carrier from Compressport, Regatta, 2XU, ZOOT Sports, Mountain Hardwear, Berghaus, The North Face but this jacket had all.
- Right shape ( Anatomical )
- Gore-Tex material
- Richt size of the hoodie and adjustive
- the length of the arms
- not the too short and not too long size of the jacket
- reflectors
- side pockets are on the right pace and the size is just OK
- the Jacket does NOT need main pockets which makes the jacket to heavy and the breathability is the worst
- ORANGE and BLACK are just the right color
- Water repellent and breathability are incredible ARE MUST IMPORTANT in EXTREME conditions.
The Jacket has for
- Ultra Trail Running
- Snowshoes backpacking - expedition up to 3500 m in winter
- Mouteniering
- Traveling
.
I had the Jacket 2 months and I CAN"T found any CONS to the jacket SORRY #stayhard

I now had 3 jackets by Arcteryx the Norvan SL Insulated, Alpha AR

I do wear this for running and hiking when it's miserable out, but it's also a great piece to keep in the bottom of your pack for when that ten percent chance of rain/snow turns into 100 percent where you are. This jacket has saved me more than a few times where I want the lightest possible real Gore Tex protection. Packs up about the size of a Red Bull can if you compress it a bit, and weighs less, pretty cool piece of gear.

The Norvan LT Hoody is the perfect shell for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. In the year-round cool, windy elements of San Francisco and Northern California, I could wear this jacket every day. Ultra-light and packable, with a true-to-size fit and look only Arc'teryx could produce. Could not recommend the Norvan enough!

This shell has been the ticket for trail running on the beautiful but wet Oregon coast. I was tired of getting soaked in my nylon windbreaker, so I finally decided to upgrade. I'm glad I did. This jacket fits well, and so far, it has kept me dry. It's very light and the hip pocket is perfect for my big key fob, and I don't feel it when I run. The hood also fits nicely and stays on easily. I'm 6' 3" 190 pounds, and the XL is perfect. It's just big enough to wear over a t-shirt and lightweight fleece mid-layer for our typical cool, wet days.

I love this jacket for running in the rain. It is so lightweight and packable that I keep it in my pack whenever I am out adventuring. The small hip pocket is the perfect size to fit a phone. The pocket placement keeps my phone from bouncing around while I run. I typically wear Women's medium but I found that the Men's medium was an ideal fit - it is slightly oversized which is nice as it doesn't restrict my range of motion. Would recommend for anyone else that enjoys running in the rain!

I've used this jacket the past several months for running, cycling, hiking, and staying dry on days where I can get away with just a base layer underneath. Its been great so far!

Have worn this a few times for runs where the temperature was below -30C (and below -40C with the windchill. With just a few light merino base layers, this jacket kept me warm and dry. I was so impressed. When I first stepped outside I thought I was going to be cold, but after about 3 minutes, my body temp was perfectly regulated. Stoked to add this to the arsenal. 6'1", 180lbs, Large fits great.

I have the previous version of the Norvan LT that has one inside chest pocket and no external pockets. I carry it everywhere in my Aerios 10 backpack and pull it out when needed. It's bombproof, stylish, and it works....period. It keeps me dry and comfortable, and it's my 'go-to' Gore Tex shell. The newer version of the Norvan LT with the stylish external side pocket is intriguing and functional, but I'm not going to get it right now because I don't need it. I'm keeping my older Norvan LT and very happy wearing this classic.

The Norvan LT Hoody is my favourite jacket when it comes to mountain sports of all kinds. I mostly use it for trailrunning, but always carry it when I'm in the mountains - whether on ski tours, climbing or as an emergency jacket for hiking and mountaineering.
It's durability is exceptional - I've had mine since four years and have used it a huge amount, but still there're no signs of abrasion, even though I often carry a backpack or run vest.
The Gore-tex material works miracles and holds of even the heaviest rain. Yet it's super light and breathable. The hood fits comfortable and the vision is still very good, with the short brim holding of the rain just fine.

I bought this jacket looking for a fully waterproof running jacket and so far I'm really happy with the purchase. Fit is excellent but you should know it's very slim fitting so you may want to size up if you need several layers underneath.
I noticed some comments about the pockets in other reviews, but if you're intending to run in this jacket I don't think it's an issue.
While I didn't own the previous version of this jacket, it feels quite durable so I can assume this is an improvement over the previous model.

It's been a few months and many miles in the backcountry of Montana since I purchased this shell. No complaints! It's kept me completely dry in heavy downpours and mixed rain and snow.

I owned the previous Norvan Lt Hoody, and although it was a good jacket, this model is an improvement in every way. The hood is better, with much versatility. The cuffs fit much better keeping out the elements. Finally, the drawstring waist is excellent. I am 6' 2" and 185lbs and purchased a size large. Arc'teryx is an amazing company that stands behind their products and truly cares about the people buying the items.

5'7"/38"Chest/15.5"sleeve/160lbs/ Small fits perfectly. Bought the XS and S together for sizing and the small is a great fit with a base layer and a light insulation like the Motus or RHO tops (also Patagonia R1 fits too).
Everything fits just where it should...sleeves, zipper pull and hood placement. Had three rain runs in 45, 60, and windstorm and this jacket is awesome.
Can wear a hydration vest over the jacket as it has not shown signs of wear and definitely more durable than the previous NorvanSLShakedry.
Best piece of Arc'teryx running gear yet and the color looks awesome from a distance for road use and caution to others in stategamelands.

I wasn't sure if this would be the right jacket for me. I run hot and need a lot of cooling options. My friends were delighted with their Norvan LT Hoodies which convinced me to take the plunge.
Wow, it really works. On my first run with this jacket I was concerned I overdressed - night run, 2 degrees Celsius by the ocean - but nope I was comfortable throughout. The bright colour helps with visibility and the material is not nearly as noisy as other Goretex garments I have owned.
Surprisingly, it has not rained in Vancouver since I bought this jacket so I wonder if this is how it keeps me dry??!! I suspect it will work well in rainy conditions - will update this review if otherwise.
I would greatly appreciate an inner chest pocket on this jacket - the side pocket is a bit wee. I do understand that the garment design is balancing weight and function. One extra pocket would make this a 5 star jacket.

Its a nice jacket but i went running for about 90 mins in medium and heavy rain as a test and unfortunately found afterwards that rain had got in through the sides of the hood and had left a wet patch across the shoulders down to the waist of the tshirt underneath. The problem is the hood doesnt cinch down and leaves about an inch wide gap around the face unless the rear hood adjuster is fully pulled up and this pulls the hood peak too far back leaving your face exposed to rain. I know its minimalist to save weight but a close fitting adjustable hood really is something thats essential in a jacket thats designed for rain running, without the hood being watertight the jacket fails in its main purpose to keep you dry.
The hood also sits quite lightly on the head and feels as if it could be blown off in a strong wind which is distracting when running and there is no stowing option, it doesnt bounce around badly when down but a tie up cord would have been useful.
Something that is not mentioned is the hood has a stiffened piece of material where the hang loop is and this keeps the fabric up as a stand collar, providing much needed wind protection to the neck.
Despite the major fault with the hood, i like many other aspects of the jacket, the fabric is good, it kept the head, arms and back completely dry in prolonged rain at 12C and i was surprised to find no sweaty clammyness. I thought the lack of ventilation would be a problem but its only felt too hot in the neck area as it has to be zipped up to the chin to keep the hood from blowing off. The c-knit backer feels comfortable next to the skin just over a running tshirt and isnt crinkley sounding.
The fit is trim in that it comfortably fits a base layer and longsleeve tshirt thickness midlayer but anything thicker and there is tightness around the chest so its perfect for running but not doing anything that needs layering up underneath. I fit arcteryx large (43 inch chest) and it weighs 208grams. Folded roughly in to quarters its about 10 x 5 inches and not something you would want to run with carrying in your hand for more than a couple of miles.
The cuffs and hood with inbuilt elastic is not an option im that happy with but theyve lasted in other jackets for over 15 years. The zipper puller is just a bit of string and again seems to be something that will fail and youll never find the same colour matched string replacement. The single pocket is best in a running jacket as it doesnt double up the fabric and reduce breathability.
I got the lucent colour, although this looks white on the webpage its actually pale blue/white , can look grey/white in winter blue light. Its a nice and unique colour but still not i was expecting as shown on the webpage.
Arcteryx also missed one defect, the zip garage overlaps the zip and always jams it about 1cm from the top.
Overall i like the look of the jacket aswell as the fit and fabric but its yet another arcteryx jacket let down by the hood which they dont do half as well as other companies.

I have had this jacket for some time. It is super light and extremely handy for traveling, and can even double as a light sweater on a cold aircraft. Excellent at blocking wind. However it is not waterproof and when it gets wet it stays wet, and can cause the wearer to get extremely cold.

The first iteration of the normal was perfect- it had the Venturi vents and dumped heat and moisture during any pursuit. Since then the norvan has gotten worse and worse. Please please bring back the Venturi vent or something similar. High output activities require ventilation, no matter how advanced the fabric is.

Really bummed Arc messed up one of their best W/B jackets for UL backpacking by adding a pocket with zipper and pull tab right on the hip belt line. Really narrows the use for this one since no one will want to wear a pack with any sort of hip belt with it. I realize it's designed for trail running-ish, but why rule out other uses? All they needed to do was keep the raised chest pockets like the Zeta FL had and this would be perfect. Please Arcteryx, keep everything the same, just bring back the two chest pockets like the Zeta FL!
