These shoes are way to flexible in the front and gave me Turf Toe!
Improvements or next generation are not necessarily better.

I was disappointed that the top of the shoe was just mesh, with no support

At first these were very comfortable. After about 2 weeks of wearing them every day, they are starting to really hurt on the back outside of my right foot. I probably should have not ordered the stability and gotten the 1080 instead. Oh well, it's too late to return them now.

I am hard on my shoes and for the price this isn't worth how quickly they've burned out. I used primarily for walking exercise and work. I returned this last pair but previously bought two pairs of the Vongo.

so I live the shoes. however when I went to choose my size it said men and men’s widths. in actuality it was women’s sizing. I ordered what I wear in men’s and had to return them. when I received them they were obviously women’s. please fix the site.

I have narrow feet, but still this shoes is too tight on the ankles. Had to do a return.

New Balance is my shoe, but unfortunately the Vongo 5, while nice looking, did not work for my feet.
Vongo 4 was perfection, like walking on clouds.
Check out the picture for side-by-side comparison of same size shoes. V5 narrower. The instep cut into my right foot. Will scramble to find any V4s left out there.

I returned these b/c the base foot padding is ridiculously thick and I did not like how clunky they look. They add at least an inch to your height. I have other New Balance shoes but these are just not for me.

I had a pair of Vongo v3s which I loved, and when it was time to replace them I thought I’d give this latest iteration a try. I was very disappointed to discover that over the last two updates this shoe got narrower and the toe box got squeezed. I had to return them.

I have worn NB for years. The same basic category of athletic sneaker. Something is up lately. They’re not the same fit. I’ve tried 8 different shoes and they’re heavy, stiff, and just flat out uncomfortable. I’ve switched to Asics for now.

I thought I ordered a Tan shoe in the same style as the other shoes I purchased - the Free form 860. I was very disappointed when this shoe arrived. I would like to return this shoe - I have not even tried it on.

I've been in the Vongo since v1. It's never been marketed as the stability version of the 1080, seems like a gimmick to me and this version HURT MY FEET. It's strayed from the non conventional varus wedge design and added unnecessary medial posting to attract runners who don't know what varus wedge means. In my case as a moderate overpronator it's TOO MUCH correction forcing me toward a more lateral pushoff causing some acute proximal 4th metatarsal rotation/pain. NEW BALANCE MESSED UP AND NEEDS BETTER RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT on this one. Please bring back the v3(the sock liner on the v4 was also a little wack but tolerable). For what it's worth I run 40/week +, and have gone up to 100 miles in the v3. I know these shoes well. After 250-300 miles the foam looses its resilience, but orherwise v4 and below held up to anything I could throw at them and not hurt my feet. (Remorsefully steps off soapbox)

Please, please, please bring back the structure of the Fresh Foam Vongo v1. The 8mm drop in this new model kills my flat feet. It seems that every sequential release in this shoe series for "flat feet" deviates further from supporting flat feet to supporting low arches. We flat-footers are constantly on the hunt to find comfortable shoes that will get us through the day. The Fresh Foam Vongo v1, v2, and arguably v3 (which still had the 4mm drop) did just that. However, the last two additions to this series don't make the cut. Recently, I had to throw out my last pair of the Fresh Foam Vongo v2 and decided to try these out. They're not the same; in fact, the two pairs of shoes aren't even comparable. It's sad to experience my favorite shoe series fall down a spiraling staircase into an inauspicious abyss.
Welp, the hunt to find adequate shoes that'll support my flat feet continues.
Post Scriptum:
To any New Balance representative that reads this review,
Please bring this to the attention of your higher-ups. If you somehow manage to get the structural design of the early Fresh Foam Vongo models reinstated in future models, both I and the entirety of the flat-footed running community will rejoice and forever hold you in our prayers. Thank you for your time.
