The quality, materials, and workmanship of the shoes were all excellent, fit true to size. However they had no arch support - so disappointing, because the shoes were just what I needed in every other way. However without good arch support, I couldn’t use them for the miles and miles that I need to walk to/from my bus stop each day

This is my first pair of Merrell hiking shoes and unfortunately not a good one. I always buy hiking shoes recommended under "moderate hiking" from Columbia and New Balance and they are comfy for long hikes. After wearing these Merrells on a 7 mile hike with 2,000 feet elevation gain my toes are beat. Every step I took going downhill was painful. The next day I wore my old pair of New Balance hiking sneakers on a 10 mile hike with 3,000 feet elevation gain and felt much better. Only good thing about them is that they were water proof when I jumped on a few puddles (as you'll see in the photo) and crossed a small creek. Looks like I will be keeping these just to go on flat hikes...

I bought the shoes but the advertised free hat was denied. Good shoe questionable advertising gimmick.

Merrells are good shoes, but I have a narrow foot with not much arch. These are just too wide, and too spacious over the toe box, although the heel is snug enough. However, the other problem is that the boot creases right over my toe area when it bends (with every step) and this did not feel like something that would resolve, since the materials are synthetic. Very nice looking, just not made for narrow feet.

I purchased these to wear in Florida, being sure to look out for words like "thermal", "cold weather", etc., while on the hunt. There weren't any other reviews that referred to this aspect, so I used my best judgement. Sadly, that wasn't enough. These boots are so hot that even in my thinnest (nearly see-through, ultracool) bamboo socks, and during a 'wintry' phase in the '50s (degrees, F), during light walking/errands, I had to take them off. Seriously - my feet were so hot in them, it was making me angry and uncomfortable!
Now, I'm angry that I can't return them. One wearing and I'm done - can't ever be worn here again as the temp is barely ever below 80. And yes, I did try them in the house first, but obv didn't get enough walking in for them to heat up.
Such a bummer bc they are comfy (not sneaker-comfy, but decent for work conditions where one needs better protection), and look cute on, just are WAY TOO HOT! To think I bought special workboot socks to wear with them is more laughable since they are THICK and def won't do with these "foot ovens"!

Comfortable, which I never seem to find for my narrow feet.
But not nearly waterproof. The sides of my feet were wet in minutes going through wet grass and puddles that didn't even get to the sides.
Not worth the money.
