I've used this to belay on both cold rock and ice pitches, and I got to say this is one of the warmest jacket's I've every owned. Have even gotten compliments while out grocery shopping. Good for at the crag or in the city.

This is my third Arcteryx jacket & they've all been outstanding. The Alpha parka is light, puffy & feels amazing. I used it this weekend at -10C with windy conditions, and no wind passed through, which is why I purchased this jacket in the 1st place. Gortex infinitum is amazing!

It's a wearable sleeping bag (but more comfortable). I love this jacket full stop. Big pockets, big fit, highly insulated. I throw this thing over my waterproof layers and never get cold hanging around camp. Also perfect for early morning photography or replacing the sleeping bag when going ultra light.

Great parka! Bought it in Tromso Norway two years ago. Kept me extremely warm chasing the northern lights. Just took it out this last week to Scotland. Worked great. Even with a bit of a light rain it kept me dry and warm. Like someone else said, it's like wearing a comfortable sleeping bag. It does puff up a bit but it is so worth it. Light weight and packs perfect into my luggage.

I love this parka as an ice climbing belay jacket or when I'm teaching. The design improves on a lot of puffer in its mobility, smooth shoulder girdle for belaying or overhand positions, sleeve cuff that actually closes and not let air in. The two-way zipper allows you to belay without lifting the jacket or getting the jacket caught and the high neck storm hood acts as a neck guard while it can also go over the helmet comfortably. Belay in this jacket in -40C temps with no problem.

The Alpha parka is like getting back into bed. You put it on and immediately feel like you've been wrapped in a huge, fluffy layer of warmth and comfort. It's instant insulation, instant heat, instant coziness. I really can't imagine needing a big coat that would provide anything more than the Alpha does. I've worn it in temps down to -30 and found it to be extremely effective. Depending on your own physical heat generation I don't think there's a huge amount of physical activity you could undertake in it before you overheated, but that's really not the point of it. It's an absolute layer, a complete barrier to extremely low temps where you might find yourself getting colder and colder though inactivity. I work a lot in cold marine environments where I find myself standing around coordinating rescue work and it's utterly perfect. There is a very minimal shower protection with the Infinium fabric which is fine for snow conditions but if you're looking for a fully waterproof jacket then I would look to an insulated shell. It helpfully has enough room for Steve, my dog, to take shelter when his own fur coat lets him down

I bought my Alpha Parka about a month ago and tested it in -5C. No wind or cold goes through, while at the same time providing great mobility. The size is just right for wearing thing layers underneath and I love the neck protection. If I could change something, I'd add an additional zipped pocket on the inside.

For medium high altitude alpine mountaineering, this fits between a Feathered Friends 38 ounce parka (or full mountaineering suit) and a thin/fast-n-light belay jacket. I used this up to 16,400 feet on Mount Sanford in Alaska encountering -10F with strong winds and it was my go-to jacket for after-climbing warmth, dinner in the snow, and for our rather frosty summit day. Fits over all my aerobic layers, breathes well where it needs to, packs down remarkably small, and doesn't weigh my pack down (like the 38 + ounce mountaineering parkas do). Photo shows it keep me toasty while waiting for rescue in the serious crevasse I fell into in Alaska.

I got this jacket for those cold High desert and frigid temps that climbing often involves in the winter time. As someone who gets cold easily I thought this jacket would be the end all be all, which it is! There is no such thing as cold with this jacket. The neck baffles on the inside of the collar are amazing and keep those ice drafts out and the heat in! 10/10 would recommend!

Incredibly warm! This jacket is like wearing a sleeping bag. Very lofty and super light weight considering the size. The hood adjusts to wearing a helmet or just over the head. Did I mention this jacket is warm! I like the two way zipper but wish the bottom zipper had a zipper pull as well, It can be dicey with gloves. All around a great warm technical jacket

I was nervous paying this much money for a jacket, but I have to say that it's worth every penny. I wore this in -10C blizzard wearing just a t shirt and.I was warm as toast, the wind simply cannot penetrate it. It's classed as water resistant rather than waterproof, but I've been caught in hard rain a few times and water hadn't penetrated after 20 minutes. It's ridiculously light, and the fact that it can be rolled up into the attached bag to become tiny is just crazy to me. It's like the Dr. Who's TARDIS of jackets: it shouldn't be possible, but it is. The fit is superb, allowing full articulation of the arms and actually feels like it's been designed for humans, almost like it's tailor made for me. I'm 6"3 and 250lbs, athletic build, and my XL has more than enough room for layering. You'd need to be King Kong to require the XXL. My favourite feature is the high collar. It completely protects your neck and the back of your head, with the hood up it's like you're wearing a sleeping bag. Be warned though, if you're doing anything active and it's not well below freezing, you WILL get too hot and very quickly. In summary, this is simply the best warm jacket that money can buy. Canada Goose doesn't even come close. You don't always get what you pay for in life, but with Arcteryx I've learned that's definitely the case. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth every penny? Absolutely.

My wife bought this jacket for me for Christmas to replace my NorthFace Belay Jacket. This is my first ever Arc'teryx jacket. After reading and watching reviews on this jacket it has exceeded my expectations. Warmest jacket I've owned. Fits very well. Was hesitant getting a medium but luckily it fit very well. Wish this jacket was available at store but sadly it's only available online. So very frustrating when you wanna try a product first hand before purchasing. Hopefully we get a more colder snap of temperature to really test this jacket out but for now I'm super happy with my purchase.

This jacket is simply the best technical thermal piece I've ever owned. The fill and lift of this product continues to grow as it's released from the stuff sack and fills in any gaps there may be between you and the lining. It is extremely warm and comfortable. It packs down very small and is light as a feather.

My parka's arrival coincided with a corking little cold snap so it was immediately put to work in the minus temps with my work on the Somerset coastline. It's an extreme insulator, perfect if you find yourself standing about in very low temperatures but I would suggest not for activities where you'll generate your own heat. it's not intended to be waterproof, Gore tex Infinium is really only going to give you snow protection, but it will cope with a shower for more effectively than a standard down jacket and it does feel a lot tougher and abrasion resistant. I sized large which is my usual Arcteryx sizing and it is for me, a perfect comfort fit with enough room for me and Steve my Jack Russell, when he starts shivering, and in keeping with all other Arc items I own. Excellent price of kit for the extreme lows.

I ve had a chance to test the Alpha Parka spotting under the ice, standing for rather longer periods of time in -15 with occasional snow dust falling on me. It offers unparalleled warmth yet I didn't sweat. The membrane protects the feathers from the outside moisture and I felt super comfy in how it fitted me. Took it also to the Slovakian Hight Tatra for a walk in freezing conditions and it stood its ground without a problem. Very pleased and would recommend to anyone who looking to be kept warm in any conditions.

The Alpha Parka is a niche jacket but top of the line in what it is meant to do. (This does not mean you cant enjoy this jacket if you are easily cold.) The jacket feels immediately warm when putting on, almost as if you are wearing a sleeping bag. (however be warned this is already really warm in subzero temps.) I use this jacket for overnight alpine camping (Spring and winter) Belaying or being still in alpine or ice terrain. For belaying this jacket shines to its maximum with its two war main zipper, making space for your climbing harness. It stows neatly in a small stuffsack which blew my mind, especially for its size. I can easily stow it away on my harness or in my backpack ready for the next pitch.
