I have been using this backpack for a couple of months for high-school. It is pretty good and I like the backpack appearance and how it distributes the weight of many binders, notebooks, and textbooks. The front mesh is so useful for quick-access items like a hat, keys, brochures, etc.. I haven't utilized the daisy chain system yet, but I heard that you could attach bungees to behave similarly to the Borealis backpack, where you can stuff extra clothes or other items.
However, you do have to pack smart (and less) due to the backpack's slim profile. When you have lots of books/notebooks/folders/binders, everything is stressed and gets squished pretty easily (which increases the difficulty in taking in or out school items). This backpack would be perfect for students attending schools that have lockers, or if you just pack less in general. Additionally, you have to keep in mind that the backpack is very prone to fall over when you set it to stand vertically (unless there is a lot of space taken up) due to the slim profile.
There are some things I wish the backpack could be improved on: PLEASE ADD strap loops on all of the straps (it gets messy and confusing), improve zipper quality (the zippers are decent, but compared to other bags in this price range, it feels cheap), ADD A FALSE BOTTOM for the laptop compartment,

I got the recon backpack in hopes to use it for my trip but the straps are hard and the padding is very thin. The movement around my arm is limited and the straps are rigid.

I am replacing my Recon from abt 20 years ago. This bag is worse quality in many ways.
- fabric is cheaper, thinner
- straps and back have less padding
- stitching and zippers not as good

Really good bag, I've had it for about 4 years. I use it for school which it works great for. Used it for some roadtrips, which it was a little small for some but still worth it. No big tears or damage other that a small hole in the front mesh pocket. Would recommend and would buy again.

I requested this as a gift a few years back after doing a lot of research into various backpacks and I have not been disappointed. I primarily use it as my bag to and fro work/my GHB but have also used it while traveling as my personal item. The big win for me was its water bottle sleeves on the side hold a 32 oz Nalgene PERFECTLY with enough stretch to accomodate it but little enough to hold it snuggly. Also the waterbottle sleeves coming up as high as they do is clutch, my last backpack had a short little bottle cubby and my Nalgene was constantly tipping out.
Love the zipper pulls (a lot, please don't change them), love the sternum strap, the materials have held up well over 3 years of me lugging it back and forth 5 days a week, the laptop sleeve is very nice if you need one, the main compartment is spacious and holds a surprising amount of stuff, and the Recon is just very comfortable to wear and carry. The handle at the top of the bag has held up well and is comfortable to grab (small things build to big satisfaction).
About my only critique (if you want to call it that) is the secondary compartment with all the little compartments for pens, pocket knife, keys, sunglasses, slash whatever floats your boat to put in them is a bit busy for my taste. I'd prefer a streamlined compartment with maybe one or two zippered compartments or nooks, but that's just personal preference.

I use it to go to work now; however, I intend to use it for other occasions. I really like the color, style, look, and material. I think it could be lighter.

I love this bag so much. I have one for work and when I use for my personal, I love the bungee cords. It's a perfect 28 L. The material is awesome. It feels like it's water resistant that waterproof which is fine. The cupholders are great and the bungees do his job so if you're looking for not too big that's too small solid 28 L and you're willing to spend a little bit more money check out the borealis you won't be sorry !

This bag is awesome. My only complaint is that my aluminum water bottle on several occasions has slipped out of the side pocket even though I have tightened the strap, its an average 24oz bottle, so in that regard it is not safe compartment unless you're okay with dents. I have no issues with the bottle holder with my Jester or Borealis both bags I have owned in the past.

I love this backpack. It is roomy, comfortable, sharp looking and sturdy.
I have owned several other high-end backpacks and this one is the best.

Bottom and water bottle pockets do not match the tan/yellow of the nylon and is an ugly brown color. Material very thin and zippers for smaller pockets are get caught in material.

I wasn't sure if I would like the new Recon but I love it! I like how it is nice and tidy without showing everything I have in my mesh pocket. It's easy and accessible and has 3 zippers for a lot of organizing.

I use it as a business backpack. Laptop sleeve is nice, well padded. Like the large water bottle holders on each side. Wish there was another sleeve in the large compartment to keep folders and paper organized.
