There are a lot of great things about this backpack - it's light and comfortable to wear, lots of pockets and fits larger water bottles on the sides. If you are carrying a laptop there's a dedicated zippered area in the back instead of the normal pouch inside the main compartment. The problem is that by adding a new zippered area and not increasing the size of the backpack, the main compartment storage is very small. My son is keeping this one for now but it's a real stretch to get everything he needs to take to school in it.

The bookbag was for my son for school. The bookbag looks big but it did not hold up to his everyday school life.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
Sad to return this bag-- Nice style, good sensible placement/size pockets for organization, and especially liked the easy access to the nicely padded laptop compartment. But the straps are so stiff, with an odd curvature. They are contoured to fit a specific body type. maybe a built man with thick shoulders and upperbody? Was not comfortable for a medium built, 14 year old teen boy, 135 lbs., about 5'7. Otherwise a nice bag!

backpack straps too close for a men's. i'm 6'2 1/2 and in my opinion the borealis men's fits me better. Recon is still comfortable just lacks in the department. kind of unfortunate considering the backpack costs more but is different in sizing. If you're on the smaller end i would say recon is better not to say that the recon isn't good for big guys either but if you like to hike or wear it A LOT then the borealis may be better. The colour on the grey and black is also very light. in direct sunlight it almost looked like a light blue. Take from my mistake and find the better bag for you.

I haven't bought a north face backpack in over 19 years. The last one I used was a hotshot and it finally fell apart and is discontinued. Recon was by best option. It's nicely made from recycled materials but no where near the build quality of the old north face backpacks. Feels cheap/thin. Straps are not the most comfortable and back padding isn't the softest. A little disappointed compared to my last backpack, but if it's your first you will like it.

Bag has great utility. I was just disappointed with my order as one of the zippers came without the zipper attachment to pull on and the color does not hold up in real life as in photos as it a more grassy green than forest green in real life. Besides having to return for those reasons, I know this is a great bag for utility purposes as my brothers and myself have been using recon bags since childhood.

Nice for younger student. Smaller backpack that could use more storage and depth when hauling the whole school day or office.

Overall the quality of this backpack seems good. I like the organization and the water bottle pockets. However, I just cannot get over how droopy and sloppy the front mesh pocket looks. It was already droopy when I received it and I suspect may get more stretched out over time. Returning.

Not what I thought it could be. Looking for a new backpack for EU trip and even around town here in NYC. Looks great. Feels great. But as soon as you put anything in the front top section it wakes the rest of the pack feel useless. As it became so too heavy that I couldn't put anything in the main section. I was unable to use it and returned it for refund. Great return policy.

I sent my older recon bag off to the warranty department because the bottle holders were ripped and I'm talking about the recon bag from either 2018-19 and boy was that a mistake now I know this new recon bag is made of more eco friendly materials but it's no comparison to my last one it's much light and thinner don't think it will hood for years I feel like I have to be careful with this one unlike the last recon bag it's been through the wringer

I use it for working at MTA as a conductor . The bag is made for slim and simple items.I put my communiction radio and safety mask that is vacuumed sealed to fit in a little portable pouch . It looks durable using at my job. It looks it will take time for it to loosen up i have loosened all the straps on it but it still tight .

A bit small. Purchased men's bag so it'll be larger but it doesn't expand. The inside is filled but not very full and I can barely fit anything on the front pockets. The side water bottles doesn't expand either, it's a struggle to fit the bottles in.

Overall, this is a cool backpack but not a practical one for me. I am a high school student who has to carry around many books, but this bag does not have nearly as much room as I had wished for.

Great backpack for commute. Great bag in general but the bag does discolor. The yellow loses its brightness.

I purchased this product because i have other northface bags! very pleased with products, however this bag was not what i expected. the design seemed to be the adequate size for my needs but the pockets were small and the side pockets (phone and cups) were very difficult to manipulate. the bag does not have enough stretchiness for books, laptop and/or papers. the front pocket is not deep enough and stuffing it makes access to the middle items inaccessible. the zippers don't move as smoothly as some of the other products i own. the bottom of the bag is not balanced which makes means the bag is always falling over, emptying all of the items on the floor or the car.

I wanted to love this bag but I received one with shoulder straps of different lengths, returned it, and received another with the same problem. It has a lot of great storage features but I found the uneven straps intolerable and returned the second bag.

I'm confused by all these good reviews. Did anyone own an older version of this backpack? Vastly superior. The changes North Face made to this backpack are not good at all. The front pouch is way too shallow. Please bring back old design North Face!

The main pocket where the laptop fits in is a little too tight. Would like more room to be able to fit a notebook next to it. Also, the next larger pocket has a very narrow throat opening due to the smaller pocket in front of it. This prevents you from getting larger items through the opening. Once you get past the opening, it is ok, The smaller pocket in front of it needs to be designed differently and be a little larger.

The External stretch-mesh pocket is too loose and seems broken or badly made. I'm really bummedthis wasn't the case for the previous model and was my favorite backpack on the market.
