Perhaps the most comfortable of my 6 pairs of Allen Edmonds. Perfect for a professional living in the snow belt. The sole looks and grips like the Vibram in my hiking boots, yet is magically soft, gentling my feet through a 10 hour day.

Comfortable boot and high quality. The sole is likely going to wear out pretty quick because of the material it's made out of. The boot can be resoled so I'm excited for when I get to that point.

Being that I live in New England, I needed something for the rain and the snow. I ordered a pair of these boots as factory seconds with moderate expectations, and I imagined that they would get pretty beat up after a few wears. Nope! I have worn these almost every day since October and they still look fantastic. I don't baby them either. Fantastic boots and they fit great.

Light, comfortable, and good grip. Color is rich. Versatile, can be used on many occasions, even an interview. I got the polish that goes with, it. I am predicting that this shoe would be in use for years.

Bought these boots to go on vacation to Maine where we were planning to do a lot of walking in the woods and fields. I did not get any time to break them in, but I really did not need to, they were wonderfully comfortable right out of the box. They gave my feet and ankles great support and the lug sole was great when going over uneven, wet, and slippery surfaces.
The boot I bought was a 10 EEE and I also bought the Combination Cedar Boot Trees with Knob, Men's X-Large (Sizes 11 - 13, D & E). I have found to get a Boot or a Shoe tree to fit properly I need to use the next size up to compensate for the boot/shoe's extra width. The ones I ordered were a perfect fit for my boots.

Good looking boot and comfortable from the beginning. Weight is surprisingly light for a boot. AE shouldn't make a claim of being weather proof since the boot lacks a gusseted tongue.

Nice-looking and comfortable boot. I was surprised by how light they are. The first pair had to be exchanged due to quality issues, but that process was easy.

I really like these boots. They were comfortable from the beginning. I have wide feet and so they work well for me. There are only three small issues. 1. The laces can too short by 6 inches. This is probably because I have wide feet. I can not use the top lace hooks. 2. I am noticing wear on the soles already. I am comforted by the repair / resole policy. 3. Where I work the floors are polished concrete. The boots squeak on the concrete. I call them early warning boots. Beyond that I love them. When my grandson stops growing I will get him a pair.

I've been wearing these for about a week now and here are some thoughts:
Bottom Line: if you're looking for a good, general pair of comfortable boots to wear on rainy days, will really stick to wet surfaces, want them to look good, but you don't anticipate too many puddles - there's no better choice.
1. I could have gone a half size smaller. The initial fit with these was perfect. I normally wear a 10 EE or a 9.5 EEE, and in these I got the 10.5 EEE based on the recommendation of someone I chatted with through the website. However, after a few days, I realized that the insole in these is compressing much more quickly than I'm used to happening in leather-insole shoes. So, the first day, they fit nicely, but by the third day I noticed some issues. Having that extra half size puts the flex point of my feet too far from the front of the boot. Since these are a plain toe, it won't have much effect, but if these had a cap or other detail work, it would compromise the stitching in those areas. Also, it's always hard to see on the first three or four days, but once the leather starts to mold to your foot, it's easier to see how your foot lines up with the sole of the shoe. In these, the knuckle of my big toe is too far back. That means that these shoes probably line up really well with the brannock measurements in length, but the width is maybe a little narrow. In Brannock, I'm a 9.5 EEE but I think in these boots that would have been just too snug of a fit. However, since I've worn these pretty hard for a week now - I really put them through their paces with puddles, mud, gravel, hills, concrete, standing, and probably more - I don't dare ask for an exchange. In the future, I'd probably get the 10 EEE, and when I get my Higgins Mill in CXL, that's definitely what I'll choose.
2. This sole is magical. I don't know what sort of next-level chemical engineering they did at AE to develop these, but BRAVO!!! Some people complain about how quickly it wears out, but I'll take that any day. It's so soft, shock resistant, sticky, and repels mud. I think it's because the lugs aren't too deep. In other lug sole shoes, mud gets jammed up in there and getting it out can be a problem. These lugs are just the right depth and texture that just a quick shuffle through a shallow puddle gets the mud off (enough). However, the sides are really hard to clean. Because they're porous it's hard to get dirt off the edges. The only time these will truly be black is when you first get them out of the box. Also, because the sole is porous, it absorbs water. This doesn't effect the function of the boot at all, but when you walk inside after sloshing in puddles, you'll be tracking water for much longer than with rubber sole shoes.
3. THE TONGUE ISN'T GUSSETTED!!!!!??? WWWWHHHYYYY????? Oh the humanity! Look, this is supposed to be a weatherproof boot...without a gussetted tongue. That's like having an umbrella with a hole in the top! Like...c'mon guys. You made these unbelievable sole to put on a fantastic boot...but no gussetted tongue. FOUR times this week, I stepped in a puddle and water slipped up over the top of my boot and guess where it went? Yup. Right inside my boot. I mean, I'm not expecting these to be water PROOF, just weatherproof. But that means sometimes stepping a puddle and if you have HOLES in the top of your boot, right where the tongue is attached...you're feet are going to get wet.
4. The heel counter is either missing or way too soft. I'm used to other brands that have a more sturdy heel counter so these ones really let me down. They don't effect the wear so much, but when I put in my shoe trees, the counter is so weak that the spring on the shoe tree deforms the back of the boot. There's enough structure at the bottom of the heel to keep your heel from shifting left and right, but it feels flimsy. My Thursdays had a similar issue and after three years with those, they leather started to separate and sag at the back of the boot, which looks terrible. I have low hopes for how these will look in three years.
5. They're squeaky. No matter what socks I wore, my feet squeaked as they rubbed on the insoles. Maybe it's part of the break in process, maybe it's a sizing issue, maybe it's the leather lining they used - but they squeak. Outside it's no big deal, but when I walk around the office and people are working or holding a meeting, the squeak can be off-putting.
6. The color is fantastic, and the leather is really easy to clean. They've gotten a few scuffs but those came out with just thumb pressure. To clean them, I just used a brush and they looked as good as new. So, also BRAVO on the leather!
7. The tab on the tongue for the laces is a HUGE selling point for me. Especially since these don't have a gusstted tongue, there HAS to be a tab there to keep the tongue straight. So, again, BRAVO to AE for adding that ONE little detail that makes such a huge difference.

These boots are very comfortable. I often want to take my shoes off immediately when I get home from work but these are so comfortable I can go for many more hours wearing them. The only small negative is that the finish is a little "weird." Not sure exactly how to described be it but they looks a little over shiny and off color perhaps due to the waterproofing. I originally wanted to wear them as semi-dressy/semi-casual work shoes in the office but find they aren't as suitable for that as I had hoped except on Fridays with jeans.

The Higgins Mill 8E burgundy with Lug Sole I ordered look and fit great. But on a closer inspection, the trim near the eyelet on the left shoe, see attached image, is loose and not sewn properly. This defect is minor and does not affect the function of the shoe; therefore, I chose not to return/exchange it.

The only thing I would improve on would be the laces. They are too thick and resistant to pulling tight with one motion. The laces should be thinner and have a wax finish. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this purchase.

These shoes replaced my decades old Dr. Martens. With any luck, these will last until I expire. These can be resoled to factory specifications at the factory. Dr. Martens will not recraft. Slightly heavier because real leather weighs more than the synthetic build of Dr. Martens. These shoes are much better from Dr. Martens, by far. The wear better, fit better, grip better, and are just more comfortable.
The components are decent. Acceptable quality leather. If you get a shoe with Horween leather, it's still Horween leather. Outsoles are soft and cushion every step. The lug pattern is good enough for city sidewalks. The better models have Dainite and Vibram. Crooked stitches are now commonplace. The components of the shoes are often out of alignment. Leather finishing for the color is no longer consistent. You can see the poor stitching on the welts. And when they sand down the sole and welt, they sand all the way up to the stitches. Sometimes they sand the shoe right into the welt stitches and break the stitches. Overall poor fit and finish. One of the salespeople in the store tried to convince me that it was part of the charm of buying handmade shoes. Funny how the shoes weren't as charming back when they didn't have so many flaws.

I was very disappointed when I received these boots and they didn't have a gusseted tongue. I presume that's why they are called "weatherproof" instead of "waterproof"? Unfortunately, I need gusseted boots for wet and snowy weather in Chicago.

My experience with quality control seems typical for this shoe. After returning two pairs (due to stitching and other defects on both pairs), I got my third pair which has only one issue. This pair has burnishing on the left shoe, but not the right. This becomes more evident after you polish the shoes, I have done. Since this is a "cosmetic" rather than "functional" defect, I decided to keep it.
At the end of the day, the shoes were very comfortable and so I decided to keep them. However, at this price, customers should not receive products that look like factory seconds.

Saw this boots at the shop and really like them. Unfortunately, the pair I order fit snug. Exchanged it for a bigger size and it fit nicely. But there is a big issue with my boots and that's is the quality of leather. There were quite a few scuffs and marks on the leather but I didn't mind it. However, at the bottom of the tongue, where it meets with the rest of the boot, the leather was wrinkled. It sucks because each time I wear them that wrinkle is noticeable. Bottom line, good boots but quality control is awful.

I am in love with my brown Higgins Mill with the wood sole. For more than a year these boots are exciting to wear. So I purchased a pair of black Higgins Mill with the Lug Sole for work. It has only been 2.5 months and I feel like these boots aren not of the same quality as the brown pair. For example, the leather appears to be cracking and yes, I have conditioned the leather multiple times. Also when the 2 pairs are side by side.. the shape is not the same even those they are exactly the same size. Just a little disappointed.

If you don't care how they look, they are comfortable and durable.
The right and left shoe look completely different. The boots were forced into a box that was too small and wrinkled one boot while leaving the other nice a smooth. I thought the difference would be less noticeable over time, but the difference actually gets worse. Love Allen Edmonds, but these boots were a huge disappointment.
