After a few years of wearing LL Bean leather upper and rubber lower boots for daily walks and gardening, one boot started to leak water.
Hoping L L Bean could seal the leak, I sent my boots back for repairs. After a failed attempt to separate the sole from the insulated layer, the craftsman called to say I would receive another pair of boots.
I assumed I would pay for repairs or replacement. But no, L L Bean sent me a new pair for free. The boots are beautifully made in the USA.
I have shared my story with numerous people delighted in Bean's generosity. I am definitely sold on this company.

These boots keep your feet warm and dry when the weather is not. The 8" are just about right for the amount snow that we get in the Mid Atlantic area. The sizing from the sales associate was spot on. One size down on length and go with wide to accommodate the liner. No complaints about these boots. I would highly recommend you go with the Gore-Tex liner.

I received these boots as a Christmas present and have put many miles on them already. I live in Central VA and this winter season has been brutally cold with a lot more snow that this region is used to. I was outside shoveling in these boots with my sherpa lined insoles and bean boot socks. My feet remained warm and toasty despite the 15 inches of snow I was shoveling. The sizing is tricky I usually wear an 11.5 for shoes and 12 for boots, but had to order a size 10 in these. They were a bit wide at first and my heel had a bit of a slip, but with a couple of weeks the slipping stopped and they fit like a glove. LL Bean's outstanding customer service even sent me a size 10 but Narrow so I can find out which boot fit better and I kept the regular width. The narrow was just too tight. I plan on keeping these boots for many many years and I'm not looking forward to the summer months when I have to put them away for the season.

My son had to have a pair of L.L. Bean duck boots! I too had to have a pair 35 years ago when going off to college! I ordered them for him and they are the same great boots they are always were just better! The technological advances of the past years such as gortex on the inside makes them warmer and even more water proof. As I prepare to send my son off to college in the fall to a climate that is very cold with lots of snow from fall thru spring, I will rest well knowing his feet are warm and dry in his L.L. Bean duck boots! Duck boots dress yet another generation!!! Congratulations to ya'll!!

Have wanted to purchase the Gore-Tex/Thinsulate boots for some time. The 20% off sale combined with a $10 gift certificate meant the price was right. As with all LL Bean shipping, the boots arrived in a timely fashion - right in the middle of 4 inches of snow with temperatures to -12 degrees. The boots were comfortable right out of the box so I wore them outside within 2 hours to shovel snow in the extreme cold. Although I've had them for only a month, I've gotten many hours in them and remain very pleased with the purchase.
Sizing the boot was the tricky part. Lots of reviews saying to order up or down a size. My only other LL Bean boot is the Cresta Gore-Tex leather hiking boot in size 8 1/2 wide. I wear light weight wool crew socks with them and they fit perfectly. As the 8" boot will not be used for hiking, I wanted the option of wearing heavy weight socks and having the extra room. Choosing the size 9 wide was the best choice for me - wearing light weight wool socks the boots are comfortable, warm and I can slip in/out without lacing.
Figure out the right size for you and I'm sure you will be glad you purchased the 8" Gore-Tex/Thinsulate boots!

I received these boots the day of a good snow in Maryland where the temperatures were in the teens and single digits. I have a short wide foot and had plenty of room in the boots in a 7 EE with the Cresta Heavy Weight Socks. I blew snow for 2 hours; my feet stayed dry and very warm and the tread gave great traction in the snow.

This is my first pair of Bean Boots. I've had them now for about 2 weeks. I'm normally a 9-9.5. I ordered an 8 and they fit perfectly. Comfortable enough to wear all day, every day. I had high expectations for these boots when I bought them because of the price. My expectations have been thoroughly exceeded. As long as the durability claims hold true, I'm now a life long customer.

Good fit. They are easy to put and take off. I can see the quality in the workmanship. It is good to know these are made here. They made snow work a little easier,

Just got done shoveling the 10.5 inches of snow outside wearing these boots, and they were amazing. It was 8 degrees out and windy, and my feet were completely warm and dry the whole time. When I took the boots off, there was no part of my socks that was wet at all.
As for fit, it can be a bit tricky. When I first tried these on, they seemed good or a little loose everywhere, except extremely narrow in the ball of my foot, to the point where I though that I would need to return them. (For reference, I'll normally wear a 10.5 normal width sneaker and anywhere from a 9 to a 10 wide -- E or EE -- dress shoe, and purchased the 9 wide Bean Boot). I called the phone number to see if that was normal, and got a real person on the phone on one ring. The rep suggested that I take out the insert, which made the boot pretty loose, so I was thinking of just getting a smaller insert, as a size 10 seemed like it would be way too big. However, shopping around for a slightly lighter sock worked instead (keeping the insert in), and these are really, really comfortable now. So the size is definitely tricky, but these are very comfortable once you work the variables out there.
There was also supposed to be a 3 week wait for these, and they came in a few days, which was a nice surprise.

What a great boot!!!
My son took mine to school and I had to get new ones.
The reviews are spot on that they run a half to full size bigger.
Fit perfect and they stood the test to 20 below zero.
Highly recommend!!

I have several pairs of LL Bean Boots that were not lined. I needed a warmer pair for this winter. I followed the sizing recommendation and ordered these. I wore them of about a month in 0-20 degree weather and did not need extra socks to keep my feet warm. During a very cold period I wore these with a heavy pair of socks and the fit was too snug. I opened a chat with customer service and they said that with the lined pair I may need to order my normal size if I was wearing mid-weight or heavy socks. Without me really asking they set up a return of my boots for the larger pair and free of any charge. The larger boots were on back order, but I was told to keep the others and wear them until the larger ones were delivered to me. The larger boots were delivered a week before the estimated time.
It has been three weeks since the larger pair arrived and these are easily the best winter boots I have owned. Typically winter weather here is between 10-25 with lots of snow. The lining in the boots have kept my feet warm and dry. I wear them to walk the dogs, clear the driveway and walk around while enjoying my favorite cigar outside. I usually wear my normal athletic socks and on occasion mid-weight socks with them. While at work I often forget to change into my shoes because they are very comfortable to wear all day long.
If your weather is similar to mine I don't think you can get a better winter boot. I suggest you order your normal size if you plan on wearing heavier socks with them.
Great boots!!

The day after I bought these boots, I snowblowed my driveway for an hour. Plenty warm and my feet felt fine. The following day, I was supposed to go to NYC, but it was going to be below zero and snowing. I would typically wear my most comfortable shoes, as I always end up waling too much and my feet remind me of that all the way home on the train. I thought dry feet was more important than comfortable, so I decided to wear the boots. I was amazed that by the end of the day, my feet were fine. They felt great, even. They don't seem particularly squishy or cushy, but whatever they did with the sole, it works!!!! Couldn't be happier.

I got these for my husband for Christmas and they are excellent. He can shovel, walk to work in the snow and rain, and his feet stay dry (we live in Boston so the winters here can be pretty harsh). They look great and I expect that they will remain in top-notch condition in ten years.
I purchased my husband a size 8 in the boots because that is his normal shoe size. With thin socks, he says the boots are a little loose but with wool socks they are a perfect fit.
Thank you LLBean!

What can I say about these boots that hasn't already been said. These boots are awesome, what everyone needs for cold, rainy, muddy, and snowy weather. They protect your feet and hold up like no other boot. These boots I'm reviewing were for hubby, but I can't stop myself from adding that I've had my LLB boots for about 30 years, still wearing them, and there's no reason or need to replace them. LLB boots are worth every penny.

8" boots with Goretex/Thinsulate will keep your feet warm and dry. They are also comfortable and lightweight enough to wear anywhere. Even better, the thinsulate will keep your feet warm but won't make them sweat excessively. Highly recommended.

LL Bean what else do I need to say. The highest quality possible known to men and women for a reasonable price. All there products speak for themselves. I've been shopping with them since I was stationed in Maine when I was in the navy back in 2000. They really are the best with fast delivery also. Made in America!!!

Our son wanted a size 13 but store salesman advised they run big so we bought a 12 - totally fit because of the thinsulate you do not need thick socks. Our son went hiking in them the day he got them and felt they were awesome.

I'm from Maine, and go to school in Colorado, so these boots get a lot of use. They haven't failed me yet!
They do run a little large, but it allows for an extra pair of socks on the colder days.

These boots are still as good as ever. I had a pair atleast 15 years ago while living in New England, I got transferred to Fla. and left them behind. Now, 17 years later, I`m transferred to Indiana and remembered how good those boots were and ordered a new pair. Just as good as I remembered, they`re fantastic. Just like revisiting an old friend.

I had a pair of these boots many years ago, this new pair with Gortex, Thinsulate and the Shearling Insoles are the best yet. Very comfortable, warm and dry. The boots are STILL Well made after so many of their competitors products have slipped. They are easily cleaned, just hose 'em off. I always treat the uppers with mink oil that darkens the tan leather a bit but they still look good. I would (and do) recommend these boots to both friends and family as an Excellent Value for our hard earned dollars. I expect to get many years service out of this pair.
