I agree with several posters here - the last few years' of the scotch plaid flannel have been inferior to the older ones. It is primarily the softness and the pilling that is much worse. This used to be my favorite shirt, and I am currently wearing one that may be 10 years old, very soft and comfortable. For the past couple of years, all the flannels are rough and pill badly, even after one wash.

The tall size was not even close to long enough in the sleeves. LLBean tall sizes are usually very dependable but this shirt was a disappointment.

The sleeves shrink an inch or two ...and I paid extra for tall size. Bean's has been fabulous about working on this with me. It's a no-win situation. I don't want a large ~ too big around the middle but the sleeves would be perfect after a couple washings. If I buy a medium tall, it's fine around the middle but it will shrink in the sleeves. Yes we are careful washers in cold water with a slight tumble dry to damp and we hang it up to finish drying. I'm disappointed in the shirt.

This quickly became my favorite shirt until I washed it and it shrank. The arms go really short. I sent it back to Bean.

After wearing and washing the shirt, I realized that it was not up to the quality that I have been used to getting from the LL Bean products that I have bought in the past.

After one washing the shirt completely pilled. My wife said she had to rewash the entire load to remove the lint. On top of that, the shirt shrank. The only reason I am giving this shirt one star is because I am required to in order to complete this review. These shirts used to be fantastic, now they are complete garbage.

The online image leads us to think that a scotch plaid color scheme is actually visible when in fact it is not if you order the dark shirt. Just received mine and it is basically completely black with no scotch pattern visible at all. My first and only disappointment with LL Bean in all these years, and I have to pay the shipping return on a misleading product photo. Lame.

i am a pretty big guy, usually border between L and XL. This shirt fits like an XXL shirt. Not worth the money in my opinion. COmfy, but too big.

Ordered this in Royal Stewart for my dad for Christmas. If it had been for me, I would've sent it back, but I'll let him decide. When I got the shirt, I went to my closet and pulled out one of my old Bean flannels-- quality has gone downhill since I last bought a Bean's flannel (mid-90's). Not thick and fuzzy, but thin and cheap feeling. Also, the plaid just didn't look right. My old ones are doing well, thank goodness, b/c the new ones don't look like they'll last as long.

The lint problem is exactly as a previous reviewer described. This shirt is a lint bomb. If lint were shrapnel and my other shirts people, my other shirts would be dead right now.
I washed the shirt and threw it in the dryer. It completely clogged my lint filter. From what I could tell, it looks like almost half of the shirt material ended up in the lint filter of my dryer and on other clothing the first time around. I gathered enough lint after one washing to make a pair of flannel socks.
Now I get to look forward to the tedious task of lint rolling the other clothes...

I bought four tossed them in the wash machine. When I took them out I got covered with lint. After cleaning up the mess I put them in the dryer which clogged the lint trap within minutes. So I shook them out and washed them again. More lint and a lot of pilling. The shirts were made in El Salvador and the stitching and detailing were great but, the fabric is awful.

I don't know much about fabrics, but have purchased more than a dozen LLBean flannel shirts over the years and this one is different. After only one washing, the cloth has a knappy look and feel. I've only encountered this once before and that was in a cheap pair of flannel sheets that did not last long. I would guess that the problem is either in the quality of the thread, or the way it is woven.
